Users love that data, events, and notifications are all real time, with controls built in. They also appreciate the discovery boards, which let them easily create reports and visualizations tailored to their individual needs. Less frequent users like that Workday meets them where they are by plugging into Microsoft Teams, along with support through the mobile app.
IT teams love that Workday is a low/no-code platform, making configuration and customization straightforward for their customers. Workday Extend builds on these capabilities, allowing organizations to create custom apps and functionality that look and feel native to Workday by using the same GUI, data, and security model. Implementation is complicated, time consuming, and expensive (Organizations should not attempt this without an implementation partner). Post-implementation, it is difficult and painful to adapt Workday to large organizational changes or transformations. This requires FDM (foundational data model) changes which impact reporting and metrics and often require large security model changes as well. There is also a steep learning curve for IT; this often requires hiring new staff and external service providers. Reporting, although robust and powerful, also requires deep expertise or outside help.
Users must switch to using Workday's terminology. For example, Workday is looking for the keyword Supplier, not Vendor. It would be nice if Workday's AI could recognize these as the similar and return results people are looking for. You can customize what results are returned for specific searches, but this requires monitoring and can be time consuming. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
