APS is most beneficial to companies with complex manufacturing operations which require advanced planning functionality. While manufacturing departments benefit most from using APS software, this type of software can also be leveraged by other departments such as inventory management and procurement.

APS software integrates with manufacturing execution systems to deploy production plans on the shop floor. Integration with ERP systems is also required to exchange information on demand, inventory, and production.
