I think WordPress.org needs improvement in terms of page speed and overall performance. When websites have a lot of data, the page speed tends to get really low, which isn't great. The learning curve can be quite steep, especially when engineering complex cascading styles across multiple custom breakpoints (e.g., managing styles from 1920px down to 1440px and the default 1024px viewport). A minor oversight in viewport styling can easily look like a major structural bug if you aren't paying close attention. For use we are using Umbraco for client websites and also using it as headless cms for data entry. The thing that I like most about Sitecore DXP is the ability to customize almost any aspect of the platform. The thing that I like least is the complexity and learning curve of the system. Some features, such as personalization require technical expertise to implement and can be difficult to fully understand. While the platform is incredible overall, if I had to point to one area for improvement, it would be the mobile app experience. The Wix app is great for managing my business on the go things like tracking analytics and responding to inquiries but it doesn’t provide the same creative freedom or deeper editing tools as the desktop version. I’d really like to make more advanced design tweaks directly from my phone; as it stands, for major layout changes and detailed customization, using a computer is still a must. We've been using Pics.io since 2020. We signed up on their microplan and overall it worked. Initially, you had to tag things manually, but it was cumbersome, so our team moved away from it. The big benefit was that it's built on Google Drive, so you can get very inexpensive storage and use Pics.io on top of it. If Google doesn't generate a thumbnail, then Pics.io doesn't have a thumbnail either. Now Pics.io has the ability to create thumbnails manually. So I asked them if they could add an automated feature, because the software is capable of doing so. They told me they could do it if I would pay for it out of pocket, but then the feature would be available for every other customer too. Other features that we asked for, they implemented after years, and by that time we'd found alternative workflows around the issues we had initially. Lately, they've tried to upsell us constantly on their own storage service versus Google, but it costs roughly a hundred times more than what we're paying right now with Google. They offer lots of features, but with many of them, you can tell that they were just created by developers, not by actual users. For example, they introduced a feature whereby you can make annotations and notes in videos, which is supposed to help video editors and reviewers get something out faster. The problem was it was so cumbersome, and every step required so many clicks that it took up four times as much time as doing it in Vimeo, for example. They also provide AI features, like transcribing the videos you have in the library, but these services are extremely expensive, and you can get this for free now on YouTube and many other places, so be prepared to overpay. Another important thing to notice too is that whenever you sign up for a plan, you're only signing up for the current feature set—new features are only available if you sign up for their new, more expensive plans. They don't grandfather you in. What's even funnier is there's no technical limitation to giving you those features—it's just their decision not to provide them to you. Here is what they said in an email: "Just to clarify, we can manually enable newer features on legacy accounts when needed, for example to let customers test them, as we’ve done here. However, new features are generally released as part of our current plans and aren’t automatically added to legacy plans. Legacy plans remain on their existing feature set for that reason." Their support is responsive, but they often don't really understand the issue and can be rather complicated in addressing it. It always turns into a long back and forth. Initially, it was helping us find assets more quickly. Now we're at a point where a lot of video editors prefer to download files from Google Drive because Pixio sometimes has issues getting all the files downloaded. It seems to work fine with photos, but it has trouble with large video files. They also have AI tagging capabilities. We've just demoed them, and they're hit and miss—they add irrelevant and unnecessary keywords, which means that if you want to find something, it might be tagged with a keyword, but that thing isn't even in the picture. Sanity is incredibly powerful but still has a steep learning curve if you are unfamiliar with GROQ or GraphQL. Pricing can also become a concern for heavy usage, high API volumes, or larger teams. Once it's set up, it's amazing, but the initial configuration requires significant developer effort compared to traditional, out-of-the-box CMS solutions. For instance, wiring up live visual previews to the front-end or building custom workflow states still requires custom coding rather than simple no-code toggles. Sanity solves the problem of having unflexible CMS structures by providing a fully customizable, API-first approach to content management. On my team I've seen improved collaboration, faster development times and it has helped us build more dynamic, scalable solutions while improving efficiency across teams. Sometimes I run into the limits of what can and cannot be styled. I understand that this is meant to optimize the platform and reduce the number of ways users can break a website. But in those cases, I have to bend the predefined elements in the code editor quite a lot and hope it will work. It allows me to manage all parts of my work in one place. I can jump from my marketing plans and blogs to handling my list of clients in the CRM they created for us. And then also add my newsletters to communicate with them, or edit pages when we have a new ad!
