The Windows version, unlike Fusion, remains our primary dependency if we still require specialized toolkits specific to disciplines such as Electrical, Architecture, and/or Civil 3D. My company utilizes these specialized toolkits. While macOS supports LISP and approximately 90% of the same standard features (excluding the specialized toolkits), you’ll still need to obtain the Windows version for these functionalities that ain't there. Additionally, you’ll need to purchase third-party add-ons or the IDE-built-in Visual LISP for these tasks. However, it’s possible to load universal AutoLISP routines in the Mac version that can replicate features from the add-ons or subversions. newer advancements is allowing users to leverage Claude and AI workflows, alongside Autodesk Assistant to aid in drawing and utilization of features. Especially Trace and Markups, it can scan off annotations off a PDF of the same drawing conducted in BlueBeam or from an iPad with markup + Apple Pencil to transcribe it to create the appropriate changes. I find a few common limitations with Designcenter Solid Edge, like performance bottlenecks with very massive models. There are also areas where user experience could be refined. When dealing with large assemblies, I've noticed stalling and loading latencies, which can be frustrating. Additionally, memory issues arise, and there are occasional inconsistencies in complex geometry handling, such as multibody modeling. Introducing a more driven magnetic assembly workflow could improve functionality. Targeted operational adjustments in these areas would be beneficial. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I use Designcenter Solid Edge for 3-D mechanical design and virtual testing. It solves design errors, reduces physical prototypes, and speeds up model sharing. The software's visualization and cloud collaboration improve teamwork and cut down time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It took me a bit of time to get comfortable with some of the advanced tools like Smart Select and IFC Import, especially coming from a different CAD workflow. I’ve also run into occasional crashes or slowdowns on larger, more complex drawings. Some AutoCAD files particularly ones with certain plugins, custom fonts, or advanced blocks don’t always render perfectly, so I sometimes have to manually fix things. One of the biggest improvements for me is Smart Mouse and Smart Select. Earlier, I had to keep navigating through manually selecting objects one by one, especially when working on complex drawings. Now I can use quick gestures and intelligent selection options, which makes repetitive editing much faster and keeps my workflow moving.

Another feature I rely on is Smart Plotting. When I have multiple drawing sheets ready for release, I no longer need to print each one individually. Batch plotting saves a significant amount of time and reduces the chance of missing a sheet or using the wrong print settings.

IFC Import has also been valuable since I regularly receive files from teams using Revit. Earlier, exchanging data often required extra conversion steps. The main drawback is that Revit can become slow and heavy when working on large projects. It also has a steep learning curve, so it takes time for beginners to get comfortable with its workflow. Revit solves the issue of disconnected drawings and poor coordination between disciplines. Since everything is linked in one model, updates are automatic and errors are reduced. Disliking is a strong term; I just think there’s always room for improvement.

When you assign a material to a design—let’s say wood—the model should better adopt that material’s texture and color. That would go a long way toward enhancing visualization in the early stages of the design process.

These are just a few points, and not limited to the following.

First is the collaboration aspect, where everyone can access the design wherever they are and make changes as needed.

Another benefit is design sharing without the risk of copying or downloading. By simply sharing a link with clients, they can view the design even on low-cost gadgets like tablets and phones.

Some advanced modeling and rendering tasks can feel limited without additional plugins or external tools. When working on more detailed projects, performance can occasionally slow down, especially with larger models. SketchUp solves the challenge of turning ideas, concepts, and measurements into clear 3D visualizations. Instead of relying on sketches or trying to explain a design with words alone, it allows projects to be modeled and viewed from different angles before any real work begins. This helps identify potential issues early and makes ideas easier to communicate. For me, the biggest benefit is being able to visualize layouts, designs, and concepts quickly without spending excessive time on complex software. It makes planning more efficient, improves collaboration when sharing ideas with others, and reduces guesswork during the design process. There are mainly two: the printing of the tables, which must be done table by table and there is no way to print all the tables in a single combination, and the management of the keys. I have 3 licenses and to be able to use all three keys on my computer, I have to install three copies of the program. Each program takes up at least 10 GB, so I have to use 30 GB for the same program and then access it with 3 different icons. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I use Edificius for residential building design. It solves the simplicity of updating drawings during the design phases and I like it for the ease of action and comparison, as well as the friendly service that resolves various issues. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The overall experience is smooth, but when working on larger diagrams, finding a specific template or adjusting small layout details can sometimes take a little longer than expected. I often need to present layout ideas and planning concepts before creating detailed CAD drawings. SmartDraw helps me prepare clear diagrams that clients and team members can understand quickly without looking at complex technical files. I use Solidworks only for CAD set up and making drafting drawings. I have tried Solidworks CFD simulation and find it suboptimal. It is not that accurate for more complex geometries, and you don't have a lot of control over the mesh compared to traditional CFD methods. Steep Learning Curve - especially those transitioning from AutoCAD, find the interface and workflow less intuitive and the commands to be more complex or "clunky" for simple tasks. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It can natively read and write a vast number of file formats, including DWG, point clouds, reality meshes, and GIS data (like Esri File Geodatabase), often without requiring a lossy conversion. The software depends quite a bit on a stable internet connection for cloud features, and larger assemblies can sometimes feel slower on mid-range hardware. Frequent interface updates also take a little time to get used to, especially when commonly used tools are moved. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Fusion helps reduce the time required to create, modify, and prepare 3D models for prototyping. Parametric modeling makes design changes much easier because I don't have to rebuild parts from scratch after every revision. Keeping design, manufacturing preparation, and collaboration in one application makes projects more organized and helps complete design work with fewer interruptions. One area that could be improved is the construction drawing customization. I would like more flexibility in editing drawing templates and title blocks without requiring a higher-tier subscription. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Coohom helps solve the challenge of communicating design ideas to clients. Instead of relying on 2D drawings or trying to explain concepts verbally, I can show clients realistic 3D renderings of their future home. This helps them make decisions with confidence, reduces misunderstandings during the renovation process, and minimizes costly design changes after work has started. There are some improvements that can be made to CMBuilder:

- Fair warning to anyone with poor internet or hardware, it may not function as well (CMBuilder is online so internet is required with good speed, the more you add the more pressure it applies to your PC, so make sure you have a good work laptop).

- Most features people would like are currently being worked on, (eg. multiple people working on one project, animation, visual change, etc.) these features are complicated to create, so please give them some time.

- The higher the tier for subscription, the more you will get out of the program. One of the most vital features (requesting resources in a quick turnover time) is locked to the highest subscription, which might be difficult for some people/companies to pay for as it can be a bit pricey if you want this subscription plus more project space. Keep this in mind and try to get as many people involved in the company so the higher subscription has better value for your company! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

CMBuilder is making meetings easier and helps people communicate better with each other thanks to seeing things in 3D. Visually, people understand 3D easier than a markup to every type of person on the job. We have been able to problem solve issues with some of the markups we could have missed in real life along with discuss important ideas we hadn't thought of thanks to being able to see the environment in a new way. Clients enjoy the visual aid in presentations and discussions as well. Things can be changed on the fly and CMBuilder makes it easy to develop these aspects of the job. The management of subjects/BCF could be made more ergonomic. The maximum size of files could reach that of Archigate, for example (50 GB). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The distribution of digital models to the various project stakeholders allows for the centralization of topics and questions, thus facilitating their resolution in one easily accessible place. If I need to find a particular clash number from a clash test, it’s very difficult because there’s no search tab for it. Also, batch clash approval is very slow. On top of that, it doesn’t include the geometry data of Revit elements, such as vectors and location lines, which could help with some automations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

For more detailed architectural projects, I sometimes feel limited by the available documentation and advanced BIM-style features. The subscription cost can also be difficult to justify for occasional users. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Shapr3d helps me turn early architectural ideas into clear 3D models much faster than traditional sketching alone. It makes it easier to communicate design concepts with clients and teammates before investing time in detailed drawings, which speeds up the early design process. Some things that could be improved include change management. It would be useful to have a snapshot in time of the first initial revision of a design and then be able to compare new revisions, like rev one or rev two, with revisions stored in the database. Currently, all you can see is the live data, and you can't see previous revisions that were issued. There is also a learning curve; the initial setup can be complicated, though we have good knowledge in-house. Copying setups from one purchase to another could be made easier. I use Octave Forte 3D (Intergraph Smart 3D) for plant design, industrial architectural, foundations, piling, and structural to manage global projects. We use Building Information Models in all of our Design Build projects. It is extremely important to get timely feedback in both 2D documentation and our model environments. The Wild helps bring stakeholders into the design model environment to pick out fixtures and finishes in real time with our team.
