I have not really encountered a down side to the software yet. At least not for what I am using it for. Most of my usage has been with extracting 2D points for writing computer numerical controlled (CNC) machine programs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

SketchUp is frustrating to me due to the fact that it limits a user when most projects become more sophisticated, especially in areas such as high-detail modeling or advanced rendering. If the file is heavy, performance will definitely decline and for the features that are considered to be very important like powerful rendering, advanced modeling tools, and better material management—most of them already be paid plugins or third-party extensions. The ease of use is a plus for newcomers to 3D modeling, but it can eventually turn out to be a constraint for projects that are meant for professional quality. SketchUp has the ability to rapidly transform the initial design concepts into precise, correlative 3D images, thus eliminating the need for proficiency in CAD or a complex process. It is a great tool for brainstorming ideas, experimenting with scales, and communicating designs to clients or partners in a much quicker manner than the traditional drafting process. Being very user-friendly, I am able to iterate fast, have several options and spot problems early in the design timeline. Thus, I can save time, minimize the number of times I have to do the same thing over again, and get from the idea stage to the presentation stage with very little resistance. Designcenter solves the problem of repeatedly recreating standard components and searching through files manually. I don't think there is anything useless. Of course, like all the best software, there are always some improvements that could be made. Specifically, I would like to be able to manage free tables with cells that perform calculations or, at the very least, integrate OLE objects (like an Excel table or a Word text). The push for new features has sadly meant that existing tools have not had the right amount of development which has meant that they are lacking with customisation features. There are some tools that had some development and the developer has clearly made improvements, however the consistant tools that are being used for years have not been improved and still need to be looked at. They are addressing feedback when it comes to Revit collaboration. We have seen throughout the years a decent advancement when importing Revit files and seeing improvements in converting Revit parametric objects to Vectorworks equivalent parametric objects. There are new features which have vastly improved out internal worflows, notably 'Project shring', 'Data visualisation', 'Graphic legend tool' and 'Data tags' which have allowed us to address so many types of technical model drawings for our internal worlflows. Possibly, this is also due to my limited personal use of Catenda, as I primarily know the platform from the perspective of accompanied customer projects, but Catenda does not replace a classic document management system for formal SIA or authority processes and must be supplemented in such cases. In construction projects, many decisions are made, but they are often not centrally recorded or later cannot be traced because they have disappeared deep in the inbox in old emails. There are a couple of settings that don't use often and find myself having to look at the manual for a refresher. In example, changing units. I am also not a big fan of the subscription and am concerned about price over time. Having used other software in that past, I would say that many of my engineering friends are visual thinkers and having a rendered image really helps them understand the PCB. It also seems that the PCB manufacturers are users of the software and have pointed out some complex design requirements that they have helped me optimize for production.
