“AutoCAD: Best-in-Class for Technical 2D Drawings and Custom Automations”
What do you like best about AutoCAD?

AutoCAD remains as one of the best CAD software I ever used. It has a long-standing history whereas it was a precursor to various CAD software like Inventor and Fusion. I like how I can create full-on technical 2D drawings and digital graphics for various things; art, assembly drawings and many site plans and detailed drawings! You can also customize the interface and even build automations alongside Autodesk Assistant/AI powered workflows. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about AutoCAD?

The Windows version, unlike Fusion, remains our primary dependency if we still require specialized toolkits specific to disciplines such as Electrical, Architecture, and/or Civil 3D. My company utilizes these specialized toolkits. While macOS supports LISP and approximately 90% of the same standard features (excluding the specialized toolkits), you’ll still need to obtain the Windows version for these functionalities that ain't there. Additionally, you’ll need to purchase third-party add-ons or the IDE-built-in Visual LISP for these tasks. However, it’s possible to load universal AutoLISP routines in the Mac version that can replicate features from the add-ons or subversions. Furthermore, you’ll require higher specifications on your machine to render or perform 3D/large drawings, which is why I upgraded the RAM on my MacBook Pro. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is AutoCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?

newer advancements is allowing users to leverage Claude and AI workflows, alongside Autodesk Assistant to aid in drawing and utilization of features. Especially Trace and Markups, it can scan off annotations off a PDF of the same drawing conducted in BlueBeam or from an iPad with markup + Apple Pencil to transcribe it to create the appropriate changes. I love how Designcenter Solid Edge allows for solid visualization, modeling, cloud collaboration, and secure data sharing. It's useful for building and sharing 3-D models more quickly, which cuts down on time and reduces mistakes. I appreciate the streamline data management via customizable locations and how intuitive and straightforward the user cloud licensing is, reducing deployment complexity. The AI-driven assembly tools like magnetic snap are particularly beneficial. I find that it utilizes synchronous technology for data use and cloud collaboration through Team Share. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Designcenter Solid Edge?

I find a few common limitations with Designcenter Solid Edge, like performance bottlenecks with very massive models. There are also areas where user experience could be refined. When dealing with large assemblies, I've noticed stalling and loading latencies, which can be frustrating. Additionally, memory issues arise, and there are occasional inconsistencies in complex geometry handling, such as multibody modeling. Introducing a more driven magnetic assembly workflow could improve functionality. Targeted operational adjustments in these areas would be beneficial. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Designcenter Solid Edge solving and how is that benefiting you?

I use Designcenter Solid Edge for 3-D mechanical design and virtual testing. It solves design errors, reduces physical prototypes, and speeds up model sharing. The software's visualization and cloud collaboration improve teamwork and cut down time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

“Major Time Saver for Drafting; Smart Mouse, Smart Plotting, and Smart Voice Shine”
What do you like best about ZWCAD?

This software surprised me with how much time it saves on everyday drafting work. Smart Mouse and Smart Select have cut down a lot of the repetitive clicking I used to do quick gestures for filtering and selecting objects save real time on daily drafting. Smart Voice is genuinely useful too; being able to attach a voice note directly to a drawing has made revision feedback with my team much clearer, with a lot less back-and-forth over email or chat. Smart Plotting makes batch printing painless when I have multiple sheets to send out, and IFC Import handles Revit data well, which matters since I work in an AEC environment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about ZWCAD?

It took me a bit of time to get comfortable with some of the advanced tools like Smart Select and IFC Import, especially coming from a different CAD workflow. I’ve also run into occasional crashes or slowdowns on larger, more complex drawings. Some AutoCAD files particularly ones with certain plugins, custom fonts, or advanced blocks don’t always render perfectly, so I sometimes have to manually fix things. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is ZWCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?

One of the biggest improvements for me is Smart Mouse and Smart Select. Earlier, I had to keep navigating through manually selecting objects one by one, especially when working on complex drawings. Now I can use quick gestures and intelligent selection options, which makes repetitive editing much faster and keeps my workflow moving.

Another feature I rely on is Smart Plotting. When I have multiple drawing sheets ready for release, I no longer need to print each one individually. Batch plotting saves a significant amount of time and reduces the chance of missing a sheet or using the wrong print settings.

IFC Import has also been valuable since I regularly receive files from teams using Revit. Earlier, exchanging data often required extra conversion steps. Now I can import IFC models directly, review the information, and continue my work without interrupting the workflow. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

“Revit’s Connected Model Makes BIM Coordination Fast and Error-Free”
What do you like best about Revit?

The strongest part of Revit is that everything is connected in a single model. Any change made in 3D automatically updates across plans, sections, and schedules. This saves a lot of time and reduces errors. It also makes BIM coordination much easier because the entire project can be managed in one place instead of multiple separate files. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Revit?

The main drawback is that Revit can become slow and heavy when working on large projects. It also has a steep learning curve, so it takes time for beginners to get comfortable with its workflow. Another issue is file compatibility, as different versions cannot always be easily opened or downgraded. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Revit solving and how is that benefiting you?

Revit solves the issue of disconnected drawings and poor coordination between disciplines. Since everything is linked in one model, updates are automatic and errors are reduced. This helps improve workflow efficiency, enhances team collaboration, and ensures more accurate project delivery. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

“Onshape’s Cloud Collaboration and Version Tracking Make Design Work Effortless”
What do you like best about Onshape?

Onshape is cloud-based, so it doesn’t rely on your computer’s processing power or storage capacity. That makes it easy to access and work on your designs without worrying about losing them if your computer fails, and it also means you don’t have to invest heavily in a high-end laptop just to use it effectively.

Because everything is online, you don’t have to carry a laptop everywhere. As long as you have your login details, you can sign in and access your designs from anywhere.

Since your designs aren’t tied to a specific computer, collaboration is straightforward. You can share a link, and others can open the design and make changes without needing to transfer files back and forth.

It’s also helpful that you can track design updates and return to earlier versions, which is especially useful during the prototype or concept stage. Releases can be traced clearly as well, and having all stakeholders sign off improves visibility and teamwork. It also helps catch minor or major required updates early and avoid costly mistakes before final sign-off.

The learning curve isn’t very steep, so onboarding takes less time. Overall, it saves a lot of time that would otherwise be spent learning, and that time can go toward other work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Onshape?

Disliking is a strong term; I just think there’s always room for improvement.

When you assign a material to a design—let’s say wood—the model should better adopt that material’s texture and color. That would go a long way toward enhancing visualization in the early stages of the design process.

I also think the simulation side could be improved (CFD, static simulation, etc.) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Onshape solving and how is that benefiting you?

These are just a few points, and not limited to the following.

First is the collaboration aspect, where everyone can access the design wherever they are and make changes as needed.

Another benefit is design sharing without the risk of copying or downloading. By simply sharing a link with clients, they can view the design even on low-cost gadgets like tablets and phones.

It also removes the need to invest in an extremely expensive computer, and it negates the need to carry your computer everywhere. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

“SketchUp Makes 3D Modeling Fast, Approachable, and Easy to Present”
What do you like best about SketchUp?

SketchUp makes 3D modeling feel approachable, even for users who are not professional designers. The interface is straightforward, and creating concepts or visualizing ideas is much faster than with many other design tools. It is especially useful for quickly building models, testing layouts, and presenting ideas in a way that is easy to understand. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SketchUp?

Some advanced modeling and rendering tasks can feel limited without additional plugins or external tools. When working on more detailed projects, performance can occasionally slow down, especially with larger models. The basics are easy to learn, but certain advanced workflows take time to master and may require extra setup. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is SketchUp solving and how is that benefiting you?

SketchUp solves the challenge of turning ideas, concepts, and measurements into clear 3D visualizations. Instead of relying on sketches or trying to explain a design with words alone, it allows projects to be modeled and viewed from different angles before any real work begins. This helps identify potential issues early and makes ideas easier to communicate. For me, the biggest benefit is being able to visualize layouts, designs, and concepts quickly without spending excessive time on complex software. It makes planning more efficient, improves collaboration when sharing ideas with others, and reduces guesswork during the design process. Being able to see a project in 3D before moving forward helps save time and leads to better decisions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Edificius?

I like the simplicity of updating designs during the design phases. I greatly appreciate the ease of action and ease of comparison that Edificius offers. Additionally, I find the amicus service very useful for solving various problems. It was also easy to set up Edificius initially, which is a great advantage. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Edificius?

There are mainly two: the printing of the tables, which must be done table by table and there is no way to print all the tables in a single combination, and the management of the keys. I have 3 licenses and to be able to use all three keys on my computer, I have to install three copies of the program. Each program takes up at least 10 GB, so I have to use 30 GB for the same program and then access it with 3 different icons. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Edificius solving and how is that benefiting you?

I use Edificius for residential building design. It solves the simplicity of updating drawings during the design phases and I like it for the ease of action and comparison, as well as the friendly service that resolves various issues. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

“SmartDraw Makes Visual Layouts and Workflows Fast and Effortless”
What do you like best about SmartDraw?

I started using SmartDraw whenever I needed to explain layouts or workflows visually instead of sending long text descriptions. The ready-made templates helped me create floor plans, process diagrams, and simple project layouts much faster than drawing everything from scratch. I also like that most shapes connect automatically, so it's easier to keep diagrams organized while making changes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SmartDraw?

The overall experience is smooth, but when working on larger diagrams, finding a specific template or adjusting small layout details can sometimes take a little longer than expected. More customization for automatic connectors would make editing even easier. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is SmartDraw solving and how is that benefiting you?

I often need to present layout ideas and planning concepts before creating detailed CAD drawings. SmartDraw helps me prepare clear diagrams that clients and team members can understand quickly without looking at complex technical files. “Great CAD for 3d modeling and CFD preparation”
What do you like best about SOLIDWORKS?

I find Solidworks the best for CFD model set up. It is easy to use and versatile. I use it in a slightly different way than Mechanical/Structural Engineers. I don't actually make "solids" that are materials; instead I set up "solids" as being fluid volumes where air/gas/liquid will flow within ductwork systems or around objects. I export to STL and this imports very well to my meshing software (Cubit and Ansys) for CFD preparation. SW is also great for making dimensioned drawings of my models.

I find the pricing of SW reasonable. I have tried free CAD tools and they do not have the capabilities or efficiency needed for real paid engineering work. They seem more for home hobbies.

I use online tools and tutorials for support which is great.

I have not used any of the SW AI tools yet. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SOLIDWORKS?

I use Solidworks only for CAD set up and making drafting drawings. I have tried Solidworks CFD simulation and find it suboptimal. It is not that accurate for more complex geometries, and you don't have a lot of control over the mesh compared to traditional CFD methods. I prefer AzoreCFD or Fluent for fluid flow or heat transfer simulations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

“Autodesk Fusion Streamlines Parametric 3D Design from Idea to Prototype”
What do you like best about Autodesk Fusion?

Autodesk Fusion makes it much easier to move from an idea to a finished 3D design without switching between different applications. I mainly use it for parametric modeling, simple assemblies, and preparing designs for prototyping. The timeline feature is especially useful because changing dimensions later automatically updates the model, which saves a lot of time during revisions. The interface feels organized, and once you become familiar with the workspace, everyday design tasks become much more efficient. Having CAD, basic simulation, and manufacturing tools in one platform helps keep the workflow simple and reduces the need to export files between different software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Autodesk Fusion?

The software depends quite a bit on a stable internet connection for cloud features, and larger assemblies can sometimes feel slower on mid-range hardware. Frequent interface updates also take a little time to get used to, especially when commonly used tools are moved. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Autodesk Fusion solving and how is that benefiting you?

Fusion helps reduce the time required to create, modify, and prepare 3D models for prototyping. Parametric modeling makes design changes much easier because I don't have to rebuild parts from scratch after every revision. Keeping design, manufacturing preparation, and collaboration in one application makes projects more organized and helps complete design work with fewer interruptions. The rendering is fast, the interface is easy to use, and making changes to layouts, materials, colors, or lighting only takes a few minutes. This helps me communicate ideas more effectively, reduce misunderstandings, and make design decisions with my clients much faster. Overall, Coohom has become an essential tool in my daily work and has improved both my efficiency and the overall client experience. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Coohom?

One area that could be improved is the construction drawing customization. I would like more flexibility in editing drawing templates and title blocks without requiring a higher-tier subscription. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Coohom solving and how is that benefiting you?

Coohom helps solve the challenge of communicating design ideas to clients. Instead of relying on 2D drawings or trying to explain concepts verbally, I can show clients realistic 3D renderings of their future home. This helps them make decisions with confidence, reduces misunderstandings during the renovation process, and minimizes costly design changes after work has started. “Amazing tool for construction development”
What do you like best about cmBuilder.io?

CMbuilder is great for multiple reasons:

- Great for communicating ideas for everyone involved.

- Continuously being developed and improved with features you can ask for.

- Support from the team is clear and responsive.

- Easy to use and learn from the get go, fun to experiment with.

- Takes markups to the next level by being clear and in 3D.

- A wide range of resources and features you can add to make your site more detailed or come to life.

- Implements well with DroneDeploy, Revit models look good and work well.

- Mocking something up for a workshop is great for everyone to look at and consider things not thought about before with a 2D Markup, also good to snapshot images for site engineers to show workers, travel routes for truck drivers to deliver materials, for shareholders and owners to comprehend easier among many other use cases. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about cmBuilder.io?

There are some improvements that can be made to CMBuilder:

- Fair warning to anyone with poor internet or hardware, it may not function as well (CMBuilder is online so internet is required with good speed, the more you add the more pressure it applies to your PC, so make sure you have a good work laptop).

- Most features people would like are currently being worked on, (eg. multiple people working on one project, animation, visual change, etc.) these features are complicated to create, so please give them some time.

- The higher the tier for subscription, the more you will get out of the program. One of the most vital features (requesting resources in a quick turnover time) is locked to the highest subscription, which might be difficult for some people/companies to pay for as it can be a bit pricey if you want this subscription plus more project space. Keep this in mind and try to get as many people involved in the company so the higher subscription has better value for your company! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is cmBuilder.io solving and how is that benefiting you?

CMBuilder is making meetings easier and helps people communicate better with each other thanks to seeing things in 3D. Visually, people understand 3D easier than a markup to every type of person on the job. We have been able to problem solve issues with some of the markups we could have missed in real life along with discuss important ideas we hadn't thought of thanks to being able to see the environment in a new way. Clients enjoy the visual aid in presentations and discussions as well. Things can be changed on the fly and CMBuilder makes it easy to develop these aspects of the job. “Ideal for Architectural Concepting — Clean UI, Natural Apple Pencil & Seamless iPad/Desktop Sync”
What do you like best about Shapr3D?

I use Shapr3d mainly for architectural concept modeling and quick design exploration. The interface is clean, and it doesn't take long to start building ideas. Working with the Apple Pencil on the iPad feels natural, and switching between iPad and desktop makes it easy to continue a project from anywhere. It is especially useful when I need to develop concepts before moving to more detailed CAD workflows. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Shapr3D?

For more detailed architectural projects, I sometimes feel limited by the available documentation and advanced BIM-style features. The subscription cost can also be difficult to justify for occasional users. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Shapr3D solving and how is that benefiting you?

Shapr3d helps me turn early architectural ideas into clear 3D models much faster than traditional sketching alone. It makes it easier to communicate design concepts with clients and teammates before investing time in detailed drawings, which speeds up the early design process. “A Powerhouse for Global Project Management and Design”
What do you like best about Octave Forte 3D?

I like Octave Forte 3D (Intergraph Smart 3D) because it's a data-centric environment that allows us to work across the globe in real-time. We manage projects effectively on a global scale, and the software supports very large, massive scale projects by allowing us to see live updates as everyone works from the same database. The intelligent modeling is beneficial because we can extract quantities from our models to pass to subcontractors, helping with purchasing and tracking MTO quantities, and we can compare these quantities with our subcontractors. It's excellent for large-scale projects, particularly for plant designs, modeling, and engineering. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Octave Forte 3D?

Some things that could be improved include change management. It would be useful to have a snapshot in time of the first initial revision of a design and then be able to compare new revisions, like rev one or rev two, with revisions stored in the database. Currently, all you can see is the live data, and you can't see previous revisions that were issued. There is also a learning curve; the initial setup can be complicated, though we have good knowledge in-house. Copying setups from one purchase to another could be made easier. It takes some skill, but once you know how to do it, it's quite straightforward. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Octave Forte 3D solving and how is that benefiting you?

I use Octave Forte 3D (Intergraph Smart 3D) for plant design, industrial architectural, foundations, piling, and structural to manage global projects. It provides a data-centric environment for live updates, intelligent modeling, which enables effective global collaboration. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

“Visualization and Collaboration for BIM”
What do you like best about The Wild?

Multi user collaboration in a Virtual Reality environment is a unique capability that helps make decisions faster. The ability to see options and change them out during FF&E meetings is great. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about The Wild?

There are some challenges with integrating non VR headset users into the meetings to participate in the discussion and decision making. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering The Wild:

The biggest differentiator is the collaborative environment... make sure you have more than 2 power VR users to take full advantage of the software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is The Wild solving and how is that benefiting you?

We use Building Information Models in all of our Design Build projects. It is extremely important to get timely feedback in both 2D documentation and our model environments. The Wild helps bring stakeholders into the design model environment to pick out fixtures and finishes in real time with our team. This greatly speeds up the feedback loop from the owners to the designers before we ever get in the field with our construction team. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
