"The only app you need to code"
What do you like best about Visual Studio Code?

I came to VS-Code from countless other text editors/IDEs, notepadd++, atom, sublime text2, etc, all of which had good features and bad, but VS-Code has everything. Anything it doesn't have, there's a plugin for that. The fact that I can customise my workspace at every level to my specific needs, it's one of the first things I install on all my computers, regardless of Operating System. What do you dislike about Visual Studio Code?

To be honest, I can't think of anything apart from VS-Code is owned by Microsoft, but it's great software, and its free. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"VSCode: It's Good."
What do you like best about Visual Studio Code?

It's a straightforward, flexible, extensible code editor with plenty of features to help accelerate development, but without extra cruft that gets in the way. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Visual Studio Code?

Since it's free and open source, sometimes support for new stuff can be a bit jank or late-arriving. Sometimes it can be difficult to find documentation about a certain feature, but it's never been a serious problem Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Lightweight and efficient- The perfect platform to get your projects running"
What do you like best about Visual Studio Code?

I love it that despite being so efficient that you can create any sort of project with ease in it, it is so lightweight that it takes minimal time to download and install and also takes very less space. You can easily find all types of pluggins to help you develop, debug and maintain your project easily. Integration of code is also very easy. And if you run into a problem being a beginner, there is a lot of support available for it. I've been using it every now and then for web and console apps in c#, js, python etc. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

""Potential, but Falls Short for Full-Stack Development""
What do you like best about Visual Studio Code?

Unfortunately, there are few positives to highlight about Visual Studio Code from the perspective of a full-stack developer. While it offers a sleek and modern interface, the overall experience falls short of expectations. The editor's ability to handle multiple file formats and its support for version control through Git integration are noteworthy, but these features alone are not enough to compensate for its shortcomings. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Visual Studio Code?

As a full-stack developer, I find Visual Studio Code lacking in several key areas. First and foremost, its debugging capabilities are underwhelming. Unlike other IDEs, Visual Studio Code fails to provide specialized debugging features tailored specifically to full-stack development workflows. This limitation hampers efficient troubleshooting and makes it challenging to identify and fix complex issues in the codebase.

Additionally, the code completion and IntelliSense features of Visual Studio Code often fall short. They fail to deliver accurate and comprehensive suggestions, especially when working with larger projects or frameworks. This deficiency significantly slows down the development process and requires constant manual intervention to ensure code accuracy.

Another significant drawback is the lack of robust support for project management and organization. Visual Studio Code lacks built-in features for managing dependencies, project structure, and build processes. This omission forces developers to rely on external tools and plugins, leading to a fragmented and less cohesive development experience.

Lastly, the performance of Visual Studio Code leaves much to be desired. It often becomes sluggish and unresponsive when working with larger codebases or projects with heavy workloads. This can be frustrating and disrupts the developer's workflow, resulting in wasted time and reduced productivity. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"The best code editor currently in existence"
What do you like best about Visual Studio Code?

There's a reson why everyone uses it, VS Code is the easiest to use and most customisable/configurable test editor available. With almost all languages supported. Thousands of configurations available. Settings page for both UI and text friendly people. Thousands if not millions of plugins and themes present. With huge and ever increasing community and awesome Microsoft customer support, you'll never need to worry about everything.

VS Code has made several IDEs obsolete by how feature rich it is. The go to text editor for all programmers, big or small. It can even emulate vim/emacs keybindings. It is also super easy to implement usecase using VS Code as a part of it.

And did I mention the codebase is open source? Awesome indeed, and we use it every single day. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Visual Studio Code?

The one thing I dislike is VS Code is built on Electron framework, making it a resource hog. This has improved though in past years. Also can't complaint mush since this also has enabled awesome support on all supported platforms. And several tools built which VS Code interface on the web (like GitHub codespaces).
