"Perfect for jumping into a file"
What do you like best about Visual Studio Code?

This is absolutely what I use to get into a file quickly and make my changes. The code completion, multi-edit, and syntax highlighting is all very helpful to find my place. The plugins are useful, but not complete enough to make it standalone. Also, free is good. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Visual Studio Code?

The plugins can be finicky. It struggles to preview some web applications accurately. I had to play with the layout a lot to get something that didn't feel cramped. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Great, lightweight IDE"
What do you like best about Visual Studio Code?

The editor is very fast and lightweight on system resources. The debugging options are endless, with many options implemented via extensions (many of which are supported by MS). I also am a big fan of open source software supported by major company. The new code sharing feature is great for pair programming too. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Visual Studio Code?

There is not much to dislike. Sometimes debugging a c# application fails to load symbols, but otherwise, updates for bugs seem regular and thorough. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Great IDE for JavaScript"
What do you like best about Visual Studio Code?

It's really fast and intuitive. There are lots of plugins to enhace its functionality and customize the way you prefer. It also has integration with Git and debugging tools. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Visual Studio Code?

Creating automated tasks is quite hard and finding some elements like the terminal or the output console might be difficult the first time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"A one stop editor for all languages."
What do you like best about Visual Studio Code?

The simple UI, its ability to detect the language and auto highlight keywords. Inclusion of Git into it makes it even more easier to use. Lightweight and its ease of use makes it my best editor. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Visual Studio Code?

Lack of auto completion for languages. Lack of Code Folding. Sharing of the document for collaboration. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"By Far the Best Light-weight Web Dev Code Editor"
What do you like best about Visual Studio Code?

I've been doing web development for 10+ years and have tried many great text editors, and none of them can hold a candle to the speed and efficiency of Visual Studio Code. Don't let the name full you, this editor was built from the ground up with Electron as a foundation, and unlike other Electron editors it doesn't suffer from the same performance issues and clunkyness as it is both backed by Microsoft and open source. It's a got an extremely robust plugin ecosystem, can handle seemingly unlimited sized code bases, and has very snappy code intelligence operations to keep you working at maximum pace. It is clearly a "web-dev-first" editor with its strongest points in JavaScript/Node.js, CSS, and HTML editing. However thanks to plugins it can handle just about any language you can throw at it.

P.S. I've used many editors in the past such as Notepad++, Sublime Text 2/3, WebStorm, KomodoEdit, and Atom. The closest IDE in terms of code-intelligence capability I would say is WebStorm, although Visual Studio Code is far more performant when working on a large project with hundreds and thousands of lines of code. An IDE that is the most similar in overall features and customization would be Atom, however Atom just simply can't handle large enterprise projects without crashing. What do you dislike about Visual Studio Code?

The only dislikes I have are how tab/window management works and the lack of a settings UI. In the editor you have your list of open files in a panel on the left, as well as tabs on the right which feels a bit redundant. As far as the menu goes, the basic menu options are in the top of the native window menu bar, but most of the important features require you to navigate via keyboard shortcuts, editing settings files, or using small command window that pops-up (similar to Sublime Text and its lack of menus). "Not bad for a basic editor"
What do you like best about Visual Studio Code?

Very similar to Sublime Text in functionality. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Visual Studio Code?

Not a full IDE - more like a fancy text-editor. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Awesome light weight IDE"
What do you like best about Visual Studio Code?

IDE is very light weight and allows a lot of customization to let you set it up as you wish Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Visual Studio Code?

Not much to dislike, it would be great if there was a better way to open another project in a new window other than opening a new window then selecting the new project. Currently when trying to open another project it take place your current project on the window. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Great Lightweight IDE"
What do you like best about Visual Studio Code?

It runs well on my windows tablet, and has an integrated console. Support for multiple languages via plugins. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Visual Studio Code?

It is not that touch friendly. In screen keyboard pops up every time I tap on the editor. Touch text selection is not supported. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Best editor for web development"
What do you like best about Visual Studio Code?

Visual Studio Code has an elegant and snappy UI, even though it's based off of Electron, which is usually considered slow. It's way faster than another Electron-based editor Atom. It is customizable to a large extent and has a vibrant marketplace for third-party extensions, which provide features like themes, support for various languages and frameworks, autocompletion, Git integration and so on. If this weren't enough, the editor remains in active development, with new features released every few months! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Visual Studio Code?

Since it's based off of Electron, it's not as efficient or fast as a native editor like Sublime Text. If you want to open a really large text file, it performs noticeably worse than Sublime Text. Also, support for frameworks or libraries like Angular and React is provided by third-party extensions, instead of being built-in. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
