Review Summary

Generated using AI from real user reviews
Users consistently praise Visual Studio Code for its lightweight performance and extensive customization options, which allow for a tailored coding experience across various programming languages. The built-in Git integration and IntelliSense features enhance productivity, making it a preferred choice for many developers. However, some users note that performance can decline when too many extensions are installed.

"The best text editor for web developers"
What do you like best about Visual Studio Code?

It's usable right from the start, but the best part are its extensions. There's 99% chance you'll find what you need. And on top of that, the software is super quick and snappy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Visual Studio Code?

I don't have anything bad to say about it. Maybe I'll find some problems later. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Another awesome MS development tool"
What do you like best about Visual Studio Code?

I like that this looks and feels like VS, but not entirely.

It's very lightweight, which is awesome. My experience with other Atom based editors was that they were very heavy.

And the amount of built in plugins (for SQL in particular) makes it a great tool to use. I had been a long time Vim guy for text and I still use it but find myself using VS code more and more.

And then there's the whole "yes an MS development tool runs on other OSes and yes you can code Java with it." MS has come a long way with this stuff and it's a good thing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Visual Studio Code?

No dislike here, everything seems to work as it should in a text editor. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Streamlined Editor for Everyday Development"
What do you like best about Visual Studio Code?

Free to use and has everything you could need. Its simplicity is its strength. I haven't found a need yet it couldn't fill out of the box or by downloading a plugin. Very well supported plugin store. I also run Linux Mint as my OS so my editor choices are limited. It has the style and flavor of Atom without the bugginess. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Visual Studio Code?

I've wanted to make custom icons in the "Activity Bar" but that is currently unsupported but this hasn't slowed down my development at all. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Visual Studio Code?

It default color scheme is a bit dark, it can be changed, but on first not very professional. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Not quite Atom but close!"
What do you like best about Visual Studio Code?

I love the customizability & plugins, and the speed is very fast. Opening VSCode from the command line simply requires typing 'code', and then you're able to easily edit and run code. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Visual Studio Code?

Not much to dislike, sometimes the startup time is long but aside from that it's great. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Amazing Tool"
What do you like best about Visual Studio Code?

It's an amazing editor and it is integrated with Git. It Works on Windows, Linux, and Mac allowing me to access my code on any device. It's easy to use and a free product also its controls are very user-friendly. It's also great for web development or ASP or .NET based developments. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Visual Studio Code?

You cannot do front-end development with Visual Studios. It also takes too long to install and uses up a lot of memory. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
