VS Code has some very clever features, including a built in console that can be run in tabs and in your choice of shell, but the real benefit of switching is how slick and stable everything runs together. VS Code builds on features that other editors have rolled out over the years (including git integration, multiple window panes, and an extensive extension library), but somehow manages to bring all these together without sacrificing speed or stability. Things are just done well. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
With all the great features it can be easy to crowd up your workspace, but VS Code leaves that up to you to decide. In earlier versions it was difficult to work on (or even view for reference) multiple projects at once, but this has been improved with the capability to have multiple folders open in a workspace.
