"Pretty good for a free text editor"
What do you like best about Visual Studio Code?

Visual Studio Code is a free cross-platform text editor that can be used for many different tasks. I use it on Windows, Mac, and Linux and I love how it works exactly the same on each OS.

It has great integration with Git right out of the box, and a large library of extensions. Right out of the box, Visual Studio Code has built in syntax highlighting for most of the popular programming languages. For more advanced IDE type features you have to install extensions, but It would be hard to find a modern language that doesn't have a corresponding extension in Visual Studio Code. I mainly use this tool for managing TODO lists and editing markdown blog posts, and for those tasks it is quite adequate. I also use it for writing SQL scripts.

It also comes with a built in terminal, which I love, because I prefer to use Git from the command line it keeps me from having to switch between the editor and a terminal window. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Visual Studio Code?

Visual Studio settings are managed in JSON files, and each extension you install also has it's own set of configuration settings which are managed in files. It seems odd to have a graphical user interface, but manage settings in this manner.

Language debugging looks like it is built it, but for every language I have tried to debug in Visual Studio Code it doesn't "just work" like most IDEs. You have to configure debugging for each project individually, not just once for a language. This is a real pain, because between projects I forget how to configure debugging. I have to read the documentation for to setup debugging every time. As a result, I don't use Visual Studio Code for serious code editing.

Visual Studio Code is a decent code editor, and it is free to use, but for the languages I most often use it is not even close to being the best free option available. For C#, Java, Kotlin, Go, and Python there are all freely available IDEs that are far superior and more full featured, supporting full life cycle development right out the box without having to install plugins, and the debugging will just work. The best thing about Visual Studio Code is that listen to your feedback and makes sure those improvements are added or bugs are quickly fixed as well. I use VSC for my Java Development environment and it works great. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Software with many plugins and light weighted software."
What do you like best about Visual Studio Code?

I like the visual studio code because of it has many plugins for example you have to code for HTML or flutter or C#.

All of this you can do at one platform. You will get also suggestion and with colorful text to understand it properly. Speed of visual studio is very high compare to other big software. You can do code in any language by just installing plugin of that language. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Visual Studio Code?

Error finding is quite difficult for visual studio code because of interface of visual studio code is some how difference from other tools. By the way it is good software for coding purpose. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Best code editor with lighter weight"
What do you like best about Visual Studio Code?

The installation file of Visual Studio Code software is small in size comparative to other good code editor but the features are not small but it is very powerful software for coding.

I like this because :

The different section of Codes are highlighted according to the programming languages

The source control feature is awesome which shows the updates and changes of source.

The terminal option which can be used for command Line Input and i do not need to open extra command Line Input program.

There are plenty of extensions i can add according my needs and programming language.

Auto suggestion and auto complete feature is very helpful for all developers for faster coding.

The most important reason is Visual Studio Code provides more options than a programmer or coder expects and needs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Visual Studio Code?

When i use extensions like source control and terminal the RAM usage is too high that makes computer slow if the computer does not have enough memory and may hang computer.

As it provides very powerful options and features and option in the same screen that is why it needs more memory. But if it can be optimized it will be better. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
