**What do you like best about Varicent?**

I like how Varicent handles inquiry management and the plan approval workflow manager. The dashboarding capabilities are great, especially with the ability to set permissions by group and tree-based permissions. I can designate specific reports for various stakeholders beyond just the sales org. It's a huge benefit to easily bring in Finance and Admin leadership with their own access levels.

**What do you dislike about Varicent?**

The biggest drawback is the processing time; when testing or implementing new logic, waiting upwards of more than 15-20 minutes for full calculation to complete is a significant bottleneck. Improving the real-time processing would make the admin experience much more efficient. Also, the initial setup was not that great, as we had to work with an external vendor.

**What problems is Varicent solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Varicent for Sales Compensation Management, solving the burden of managing complex multi-tier commission structures and ensuring payout accuracy. It handles inquiry management and plan approvals well, allowing specific report access for stakeholders like Finance and Admin, which is very beneficial.

**What do you like best about Varicent?**

Over the past year, we've not only optimized several of our existing reports but also expanded functionality in ways that have significantly increased efficiency. One of the most impactful improvements has been the creation of a new adaptive report as part of Varicent’s modernization initiative—delivered at no additional cost to us.
This new report has streamlined our workflow, reduced manual steps, and eliminated recurring internal errors, ultimately saving both time and effort. Additionally, the Varicent team has been incredibly supportive and proactive throughout the process. Their responsiveness—especially through the Ask an Expert sessions—has helped us continuously fine‑tune our system and reporting structure. This ongoing collaboration is truly one of Varicent’s standout strengths.

**What do you dislike about Varicent?**

Our core usage of the platform hasn’t changed dramatically, but most of our enhancements have been incremental updates to make processes more efficient. While there isn’t anything specific to dislike, some modernization features require gradual adoption.

**What problems is Varicent solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Varicent to compute periodic compensation for a large group of independent contractors, and it has become a reliable system for both calculations and reporting. By automating complex compensation logic, Varicent helps us significantly reduce manual work, minimize errors, and ensure timely payouts.

**What do you like best about Varicent?**

I like the continuous improvements Varicent makes by modernizing the admin experience, enhancing reporting, and developing upgrades frequently. It speeds up administration and makes the reporting look more modern and fresh.

**What do you dislike about Varicent?**

They are constantly changing their support model and support team. I have no idea who to contact when something goes wrong. They've also created a forced migration from legacy reports and servers to new reporting and servers and the migration has been a very poor experience. This is unlikely to impact new users though. The initial setup was very complicated, and we had a 3rd party vendor help us stand it up. There are so many more options for BI that may already be a free connection to your existing products. Varicent has a pay-to-use model where you can import flat Excel files, but the second you want direct connections to a database, it's another product to pay for.

I use Varicent to manage all incentive plans, ensuring accurate calculations and transparent payouts by automating complex commission administration.

**What do you like best about Varicent?**

Their new version looks much easier and cleaner to work with; it also offers flexibility to achieve our crediting needs. The user interface is friendly and easy to use, and their VIP service is kind and attentive.

**What do you dislike about Varicent?**

The built system didn't meet our needs on many things initially, so many personalized calculations needed to be created. We had lots of "We can do it, but it looks difficult" after a Discovery where all was "easy to make and easy to do." They added complexity to the process and, pretty sure, never looked at the capabilities we have in our current systems so they could offer better options.

**What problems is Varicent solving and how is that benefiting you?**

From our previous version, we're solving some manual loads and expect to have cleaner and easier-to-read statements for our reps. 
We also had the expectation we could have easier access to the system to make flexible setups and automated quota calculations.

**What do you like best about Varicent?**

Extremely powerful and flexible. It’s highly configurable, and we’re able to add new features and functionality every year. Varicent also provides excellent customer support and strong client engagement activities. The education and training continue to improve as well; they keep refining and expanding their offerings. Presenter Adaptive has made report creation easier for us. ELT is a powerful data transformation tool, and we’re continually discovering new ways to use it.

**What do you dislike about Varicent?**

The product’s flexibility also brings some complexity when it comes to configuration. We rely on outside consultants for that, since we don’t have the in-house expertise. I don’t see this so much as a downside as it is simply an observation.

**What problems is Varicent solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Varicent for all of our commission calculations and performance reporting. By implementing Varicent, we’ve been able to replace manual spreadsheets across many of our processes and provide reporting to our sales group in a much more timely manner.

ELT also allows us to perform data transformations and automate workflows that were previously handled manually, which has been a huge time saver for our team.

The platform provides extremely useful tools across the entire lifecycle of territory planning and sales compensation. Its ability to be customized to meet complex needs is critical for successful deployment and adoption. The fact that it continues to evolve to keep pace with the changing SPM landscape is also a big plus.

**What do you dislike about Varicent?**

There’s a maturity imbalance between Sales Planning and ICM. Sales Planning is closing the gap, but it still has some work ahead to fully catch up with ICM.

**What do you like best about Varicent?**

The ease of navigating all of the interconnected components (calculations, imports, etc) in the UI, whilst also simultaneously viewing data for each calculation. Customer support through Ask an Expert is second to none. Furthermore the integration capabilities through both the ICM and ELT are excellent.

**What do you dislike about Varicent?**

Limited support for SQL in the imports function limits possibilities in some cases. Additionally, presenter adaptive reports The audit log can only export 5000 records at once, leading to a need to work around (either API or create an Audit Log table with import function) for auditors who need copies.

**What problems is Varicent solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Varicent is automating complex commission and bonus logic simultaneously whilst providing clear reports to both the external partners and internal finance team

**What do you like best about Varicent?**

I like how Varicent lets us create different types of plans with various components that can be used for different roles and different teams. Also flexibility around the payment structures and workflows for the plan documents.

**What do you dislike about Varicent?**

While updating data for individual payees, we currently face the time-consuming task of updating multiple tables. In addition to the backend table, is it possible to consolidate all payee data on a single page for administrative convenience? Also, sometimes calculation gets stuck in between or takes longer time which really hampers working hours

**What problems is Varicent solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Designing and creating a complex plans and creating a sales crediting logic. Easy to check history and make changes in the data in system also resolving complex calculations.

**What do you like best about Varicent?**

I appreciate the wide variety of training available, which makes working with the application much easier. The drag-and-click interface, dynamic/smart drop-down restrictions, and built‑in validation checks ensure that every table, view, calculation, or datastore created is always valid.
I also value that development can be done without writing code, using system‑built connectors or PostgreSQL capabilities when needed. Lastly, the self‑service features—such as the ability to schedule our own refreshes—allow us to work in real time and maximize the use of our environment.

**What do you dislike about Varicent?**

Getting prompt support can be challenging at times because the agent we’re connected with may not always be familiar with the structure of our system. As a result, it can take multiple sessions to fully explain the nature of the issue. It becomes much easier when we are able to join a call and walk them through what we’re experiencing, as this helps them clearly see at which step the error or problem occurs—one of the key reasons we truly value our CSM.
Lastly, the limited customization options for the plan document make the yearly setup more difficult and development‑intensive than we would prefer.

**What problems is Varicent solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It makes incentive‑related transactions easily accessible for end users and helps managers better understand performance. It also supports strong reporting and analytics through its adaptable presenter capabilities. Lastly, the inclusion of the planning module allows us to store both sales plans and sales incentive data in one centralized location.

It’s well organized and easy to use and navigate. It’s also a great way to store data and handle updates as needed.

I have to rebuild my filters from scratch every time, which is frustrating. I wish I could save certain filtered reports or tables as favorites so I can get back to them quickly. Also, we just went through a system upgrade, and since then it seems like system process runs are taking about twice as long.

**What do you like best about Varicent?**

What I appreciate most about Varicent is how flexible and scalable the platform is when it comes to managing complex incentive compensation plans. It’s built in a way that allows you to model and adapt to changing business rules without needing to overhaul the entire system. The UI is intuitive, and once you're familiar with the structure, making updates or building new logic becomes pretty straightforward. I also like how it integrates well with upstream and downstream systems, which makes data flow and reporting much smoother. Overall, it’s a solid tool that helps reduce manual effort and gives better visibility into compensation metrics.

**What do you dislike about Varicent?**

While Varicent is powerful, there are a few areas that could be improved. The initial learning curve is quite steep—especially for new users who aren’t familiar with the data model or the way components interact. Documentation can be a bit sparse or overly technical at times, which makes troubleshooting more difficult than it should be. Also, performance can lag when dealing with very large datasets or complex calculations, and some UI elements feel dated compared to more modern platforms. That said, once you're past the ramp-up phase, it becomes much easier to work with.

**What problems is Varicent solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Varicent has helped us tackle several challenges around incentive compensation management. Before we implemented it, a lot of our processes were manual, error-prone, and time-consuming—especially when it came to calculating payouts, handling exceptions, and generating reports. With Varicent, we’ve been able to automate most of that, which has significantly reduced the risk of errors and saved us a ton of time during monthly and quarterly cycles.
It also gives our sales teams more transparency into how their compensation is calculated, which has improved trust and reduced disputes. From an admin perspective, the ability to model complex plans and make changes without heavy IT involvement has been a huge win. Overall, it’s made our compensation process more efficient, accurate, and scalable.

**What do you like best about Varicent?**

We use ICM to calculate, pay and track all of our incentive payments from gift card spiff awards. Perhaps what we like best is the flexibility in building the different plans. We have a variety of plans ranging from a dozen or so calculations to plans that have hundreds of calculations. Really, we haven't come across a plan that we couldn't build.

**What do you dislike about Varicent?**

Really not a dislike but we would like to see a more customizable workflow (we have very specific requirements). In addition, we would like to see more use cases/examples of how to use the API. We have a number of integrations  with other systems (using imports) and while it works well, we are looking for something more seamless.

**Recommendations to others considering Varicent:**

While ICM offers a lot of flexibily and ease of use, I recommend careful planning prior to jumping and building right away. Building is the easy part but it is best to follow a well thought out and designed plan. This will save time and the effort of having to go back and make changes. 

There are a number of products on the market for incentive compensation/performance management. Make sure to give ICM a thorough review. As mentioned previously, there hasn't been a compensation plan that we have not been able to build.

**What problems is Varicent solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The biggest problem solved is paying our incentives accurately and on time. In addition, being able to easily meet compliance requirements (audits) and provide detail reporting on how incentives were earned. Benefits include employees being able to model their production and see what payouts would be with increased efforts.

I have been constantly using Varicent for approximately 3 years, and during this period, I’ve seen many valuable enhancements such as:

--> Presenter Adaptive Reports
--> Forms
--> New Inquiry Management Tool

It is very beginner-friendly, as the configuration and terminology are easy to understand. Integration with other tools is smooth, and the customer support team is very approachable.

**What do you dislike about Varicent?**

There are only two main areas where Varicent could improve:

1) Presenter Adaptive Reports

-->These do not meet requirements as effectively as Structured Reports.
--> Structured Reports are easier to use and highly customizable, whereas Adaptive Reports are mostly limited to displaying numbers in tabular form.

2) Model Performance with Webforms

--> The overall performance seems to degrade when working with webforms.

Based on demonstrations, since we have not fully rolled out the product, I am impressed with the reporting capabilities of presenter adaptive, the flexibility in building plans, and the ability to have a single source of truth when it comes to compensation.

The implementation has taken a fairly long time to roll out. Otherwise, I have not had enough time with an end product to find concerns.

The people. Technology is technology. But the people at Varicent are the difference. 

I have never met a group of people who made it their mission for my team to succeed the way my Varicent partners do. 

Amazing across the board from the customer service reps to the conference team to the system support.

Nothing comes to mind. 

Only thing would be implementing changes we want but I understand how roadmapping works. We have to balance the same in our day to day. So that isn’t a dislike. It is the nature of technology.

Quota allocation - huge win. Saved us about 2-3 days of work a quarter. 

Quota approval flows - planning on implementing in the coming year

The Admin Client UI is extremely friendly reminiscent of Access but future forward.  Integration points are great.

Inquiry Manager has a lot of room to grow when I can design a full ticketing suite (including Parent/Child relationship) in Smartsheet.  No Presenter Adaptive Report template, thus, joining back end tables with self references to enable metric reporting for monitoring (e.g., SLA, Repeat Offenders, Enablement Enhancements).  Inquiry Workflow Form cannot be edited post start distribution.  ELT does not migrate from legacy Saved Imports.  They need to be copied and edited within ELT.

**What problems is Varicent solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Legacy SQL DB with custom programs per contract are now automated with underlying configuration, picklist and data tables which reduced DEV overhead.  Legacy mail merge was replaced with templated reports published for End User to pull.  Legacy Plan Acknowledgement was not as smartly configured and distributed.

After adding Varicent to our sales technology platform, we've seen a very high adoption rate as well as our sales leadership is using our payee reports for strategic planning for our sales force.    The ability to show opportunity and bonus potential updated daily with actual results provide our organization the right incentive and knowledge to drive sales results.

Working with extremely large datasets can be challenging.   The more complex you're data model the more we have to break things into many more calculation layers to achieve results without impacting performance.

Presenter adaptive is a game changer for reporting. The functionality has led to an enhanced customer experience and decreased the research process for admins.

There are features in the inquiry workflow I would love to see. I understand there is significant benefit from working in the admin portal however that is not possible for my team. There is no inherit direct data connections we can establish with out software platforms, this seems to be locked behind their ELT product. Though we already have a solution managing our ELT needs, so the data we receive is already cleaned, and paying the price tag to simply connect directly with our other data platform is a difficult proposal to sell.

Plan documents along with Presenter Adaptive both offer a good UI experience for our payees, who have in the past experienced UIs that are dated and a bit more to difficult to navigate.

There is a lot of flexibility in what can be built in the tool. Being a configuration based tool vs a code based tool makes it something that anyone can learn although that can take a bit of time depending on which tools you have used previously.

It isn't the best UI from an admin perspective for building plan components. It takes a lot of getting used to and some trial and error (as most similar tools do as well)

Varicent is largely intuitive to comp administrators and fairly flexible for those who configure the system. Workflow functionality is robust and provides excellent transparency. There are valuable tools to document and track administrative processes and all activity is recorded in Varicent's extensive audit log. Varicent regularly enhances the product and welcomes and encourages customer feedback in the product development. I appreciate the relationship with Varicent, as all employees have been committed to customer success.

At this time the Plan Acknowledgement feature is not ideal and required more work to setup, but enhancements could improve this in the future.  Aggregating the data to meet reporting requirement can be tedious. Table structure is quite rigid and revising data structure as incentive programs evolve can be difficult.

Varicent took us out of our very complicated Excel spreadsheets for commissions. Now the reps see their deals and commissions in almost real time. Automating calculations that were previously held in spreadsheets. Varicent has been key in enabling us to drive forward our incentives calculations and become less reliant on large datasets in excel, reducing manual intervention and human error greatly.

It takes some time to get up to speed with the system and it can be daunting for beginners but luckily there are lots of resources and support available for onboarding.

Automating calculations and providing e-statements that are available for the field to log in and view at any time. These were previously housed in excel which required individual emails to be sent to each sales rep once a month. This was time consuming so Varicent is giving me this time back to upskill in other parts of my role.

**What do you dislike about Varicent?**

I'm ready for Inquiry manager using AI! This isn't a real dislike, just a bit of impatience for the next generation of the tool.

**What problems is Varicent solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Varicent provided us an industry leading tool providing consistency and accuracy in pay for our Business sellers. The structure and simplicity of the tool has been an important foundation for moving our compensation practices to industry standards.
