"A slow death by post-IPO overreach"

What do you like best about Semrush?

Their scraped keyword data is among the best in the industry, and it's managed well within their interface. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Semrush?

Since acquiring the free SEO Digger tool in the early 2000s and making it a paid subscription, Semrush carved out a permanent role in SEO. As years went on, they continued to bolt-on endless features that nobody asked for, often confusingly misaligned with their brand (ie. a cheap link building service, a Fiverr clone, etc.). All had better alternatives, and some were worse than many free tools. That confused a high percentage of clients, but the hoarding of mostly junk features was at least navigable.

The difficulty really set in post-IPO. The company's being looted to dust. Annual renewals skyrocket every year now, but that's just where it begins. As the year progresses, the important data is constantly vanishing to be replaced by dozens of independently metered "buy more" buttons. API access was cut from all legacy plans without warning. They just started selling an "Semrush Enterprise" for thousands more, while offering less than they once did with regular Semrush.

Support is aggressive and sales takes weeks to even quote the next round of mid-year extortion, completely apathetic to these long stretches where our services are sitting unusable and offering no compensation to us or our clients. In essence, the experience has shifted from the dependable professional's tool to that of a scammy gacha mobile game. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
