I like that the keyword research in Semrush gives me the essentials I need. What do you dislike about Semrush? We trialed the AEO features and they were poor quality, it barely gave us anything relevant to our business. I also dislike the self-serve subscription setup, billing is hard to understand and you can easily remove things from your plan. They make, what should be easy admin tasks, really difficult. I am currently using Semrush for several core parts of website and search visibility monitoring. The main areas I am using it for are backlink tracking, position tracking, and other site health monitoring. I also use Semrush to keep an eye on search visibility trends over time and to identify pages or keywords that may need attention. I appreciate that I am able to see what pages have been crawled. One of my biggest frustrations is that I have two Semrush projects for the same domain and the results are significantly different between them. Some top level metrics are a match, such as AI visibility, AI mentions, authority score, organic traffic, and organic keywords. But the project level tools show very different results. For example, one project shows 94% site health with errors and 486 warnings, while the other shows 74% site health with 137 errors, and 1,037 warnings. One has 590 pages crawled, and the other has 849. On the SEO checker it shows 23 ideas for 5 pages in one project, compared to 129 ideas for 27 pages on the other. The backlink audit toxicity score is also very different. These projects are updated on the same day. That is frustrating because I am using Semrush to monitor health, backlinks, position tracking, and visibility trends. When two projects for the same site show VERY different results I struggle to trust the data in either which makes Semrush decreasingly valuable for the cost. The initial setup was relatively easy in the sense that it was not hard to create a project, connect a domain, and start seeing data. Getting started is pretty straightforward. I like that it's an industry staple, and people are aware of it, and some of the metrics it provides. The UI hasn't changed much in the years. Integrations are mostly locked behind paywalls. Legacy performance is good, but can be shaky with AI search results. Pricing is done by the minute. Literally. I have not worked with their support team outside of billing. There haven't been notable improvements in years, and reports have gotten significantly less reliable. With AI, it is becoming less helpful and more of a burden for the price it costs. It seems that Semrush is becoming more of.a relic, and just throwing spaghetti at the wall and seeing what sticks when it comes to their AI features they've added. They have become behind the times. I love the ability to track period over period, or any period of time, to see where keywords are moving and how they're moving. It gives me so much insight into SEO strategy and where I need to go with the SEO work that I do. I also appreciate that with Semrush, I can have tracking and research all in one location, which makes a lot of the SEO research faster, so I don't have to do it manually. The initial setup was really easy too, just requiring some use of the organic research tool to find keywords for my position tracking, which took about an hour. Semrush is a really solid tool with way more features than I have time to use in my role as Marketing Specialist. What I really like is that I can do pretty much anything I need to do within Semrush. I also love the weekly emails that offer a snapshot of our overall website performance and our keyword rankings. The Semrush Academy training programs are also really helpful in understanding SEO and how to use the platform, if you have the time to dig into them. That said, we're just getting started with our SEO & content marketing efforts, so I know we've barely scratched the surface and don't even use it as much as we should. Second, there are tons of great add-on features, but access to them can easily double the monthly cost of the platform. For what you pay per month, it would be nice if more of those features were included in the base price. Third, there's a learning curve. I haven't found it to be super easy to use, but they do offer tons of help guides on Semrush specifically and SEO in general. These are helpful, as long as you have the time to dig into them! We've only just recently launched our business, so we're still pretty low on the search engine rankings. Semrush made it fairly easy to see what the easiest keywords would be for us to rank for, so we have been able to easily incorporate those keywords into our blog posts and website content. The weekly emails they send out showing where we're sitting with those keywords has made it that much more fun to track our progress moving up the rankings. The site audit emails have been helpful too; we've been able to use the site audit function to resolve a number of issues on our website that might be preventing us from ranking higher.
