The ease of use and "color-coding" nature of the interface makes it extremely easy to implement and teach. After considering almost all other comparable products on the market (SOS, Fishbowl, Digit, Oodoo, etc.), Katana was the clear winner visualizing "ingredient availability," which is key for our business. **What do you dislike about Katana Cloud Inventory?** I wish Katana had a few more features specific to our business. I would like the ability to sum custom fields (weight, for example), the custom forms are difficult to work with and a bit inconsistent, and the I would like the ability to determine material costs from operations costs in the QuickBooks Online integration. The customer support is fantastic and always proptly on hand to help with any and all issues that might arise. They also work to continually improve and add new features based on customer feedback. I use Katana every day, even when it's not necessary, because it’s as engaging as a fun game like Farmville—manufacturers will understand what I mean! :) Everything about Katana is fantastic—the extensive functionality allows me to manage production at every level. We use Katana for creating production tasks, managing inventory of materials and components, order management, sending orders for packaging, automatically receiving orders from various platforms and our own website, registering orders with courier services through integrations, ordering materials, and automatically determining prices for B2B clients. All our employees work through the Shop Floor app, marking START and FINISH for various tasks, adding additional consumables as needed, reading production instructions, and always knowing what to do and in what order. All data is synchronized, and the costs for each product and component are automatically calculated based on labor costs, material prices, defect rates, and additional expenses such as material delivery, customs duties, or any other supplementary costs. The benefits of Katana could be discussed for days without a break, and the most important thing is that such an extensive functionality is designed so intelligently that using Katana is truly a pleasure! Another huge advantage when we Integrate Katana into our production was the ease of importing virtually any data using CSV or Excel spreadsheets. Additionally, as we continue using the system, we have access to amazing features that simplify our lives, such as the ability to replace one material with another across all products with the click of a button, or automatic conversion of measurement units for material purchasing and usage. For example, we purchase screws in boxes but use them individually, so I always have everything in order both during receiving goods—everything matches the invoices—and in production, including tracking inventory levels. It’s impossible to stop listing all the fantastic features of Katana. If you’d like to discuss this further, I’m always happy to chat, so feel free to reach out to me directly. Another crucial factor is the excellent customer service. The chat with Katana staff is always available, and any question can be answered within minutes. Their service is always very responsive and incredibly helpful! **What do you dislike about Katana Cloud Inventory?** I have nothing I dislike about Katana! Of course, there are some small aspects I would like to see improved, such as: The client card does not allow for the addition of a VAT number, which is important for European countries in the B2B sector. The client's email address is only visible when you go into the client card; it would be much more convenient if it, like the phone number, were displayed directly on the sales order page. There is a quick reordering function for sales orders that allows you to move orders up or down the list to change their priority, but this function is not available on the manufacturing order page. This means I have to manually drag an order from 654th place to 1st if it needs to be prioritized urgently. There is no column for additional comments in the sales order table, so I have to open each order individually to see any additional notes. In the sales order page, there is no column to display which products were purchased. I have to go into each item to understand what the client bought. It would be more convenient to see this information right away, at least in the form of the SKU code. In the material cards, there is an option to specify a minimum order quantity, which is incredibly convenient. However, this feature is not available for production orders, and I would like to be able to indicate the minimum acceptable quantity for production items as well. The status of the Manufacturing Order is set to "Blocked." Logically, this should completely hide the task from all employees, with only the Administrator able to see it. Unfortunately, only the name and color of the status change. To ensure that employees do not see the task, I have to remove them from the production tasks, and then re-add them if the task is unblocked later. Overall, I wrote all of this mainly to bring it to the developers' attention. Katana frequently makes improvements, and I’m confident that these changes will be implemented very soon! Additionally, none of these points are critical issues, and we have found alternative ways to work around each of them while continuing to use Katana effectively! **What problems is Katana Cloud Inventory solving and how is that benefiting you?** The biggest problems we solved with the help of Katana are: Employees always know what and in what order they need to perform tasks. I can plan production months in advance, freeing up time for other important tasks or rest. All materials are always under control and ordered on time. Cost calculation for goods is sensitive to changes in staff, material costs, the introduction of new equipment, etc. The cost of goods has never been calculated so accurately without hundreds of sheets in Excel. All orders are in one place; there is no need for an additional CMR system or checking all platforms separately. EVERYTHING is under control! ### 14. I like the integrations (Shopify, QBO) and I am optimistic that they will work out the remaining bugs in the near future. Lastly, Katana Support has been amazing. We grew into it and it's been growing with us ever since we started using it in late 2020. It is pretty easy to use. It integrates with shopify and quickbooks. The developers work really closely with end-users to develop the product and add new features, meaning that many new features are relevant to our company. **What do you dislike about Katana Cloud Inventory?** Organising manufacturing orders list can sometimes get a little messy with lots of sub-assemblies as sorting is a manual drag-and-drop. However, if you organise work through the Task view it works better. Also, allocating the same task to several operatives only accounts the work to the first one who starts the task. **What problems is Katana Cloud Inventory solving and how is that benefiting you?** It manages inventory use when products are manufactured and speaks to Quickbooks, meaning that stock control is much simpler than before we had it. It can be done using a location, but the standard package only allows 3 locations, and we need them all for actual warehouses. **What problems is Katana Cloud Inventory solving and how is that benefiting you?** We use Katana, because our shopify stores lack the capability to properly track subcomponents for bundle orders, and give an accurate projection of available inventory based on subcomponents. For example, we wanted to start from scratch by deleting/re-importing our Shopify orders but were unable to do so. We later learned that once orders are deleted, there is no way of recovering them, even after re-importing UNLESS you completely wipe the entire account and start from complete scratch. Fortunately, however, Katana allows us to export data into spreadsheets, which we then used to populate templates. We were literally able to start using the inventory management features on day 1. This is impressive as I have implemented ERP solutions at other companies that took weeks of training to just start working in the system. Perhaps the prior knowledge helped, but I do believe anyone with a bit of manufacturing experience will be able to do the same. Also, the developers are very interested in improving the system and I've had meetings with them to review the areas I would like to improve. **What do you dislike about Katana Cloud Inventory?** There are two levels of licenses. One that has access to everything and another that can only complete work orders. I would like to be able to define rolls with a little more granularity so that a buyer, for instance, can't change the BOM on accident. Also, I would like to be able to track serial numbers. Finally, I would like a location to document the supplier lot numbers and assign our lot numbers automatically. We can also see our COGS on a much more accurate level now. It is helping us drill down into what is costing us the most on each product, whether it's materials, packaging, labor etc. Very valuable and more than what we could accomplish with spreadsheets. Batch tracking is easy and accurate for raw materials and finished products. Onboarding staff are helpful and have assisted us in getting it running fully at no additional charge. **What do you dislike about Katana Cloud Inventory?** Basic forecasting features are almost non-existent. We would have to pay another $199+ a month to use a 3rd party software to accomplish this. We don't need complex forecasting, just something that says: (if) sales velocity equals X (and) production lead time is X (and) current stock equals X (then) alert on X date that a new manufacturing order should be made. However, we have put in this request and it appears not to be a top priority since they have this 3rd party app to lean on. The Zapier integration appears limited so I'm not sure we can do this forecasting ourselves without the 3rd party app or paying a developer. It seems very very basic and something that any CPG company would need. For now we are doing this forecasting manually, which is error-prone and time consuming. The Quickbooks integration is lacking. It seems convenient at first but then it pulls POs into QuickBooks with the wrong date, which causes issues with our bookkeepers. Stock transfers from one warehouse to the next have no time delay, so it "restocks" a warehouse when in fact there is a trucking delay of 1-2 weeks. So there is no way to account for a transportation delay in a stock transfer. When selling backorders, Katana will record the sale as a $0 sale. So the new "insights" feature is less useful because on anything where you sell a backorder, it shows you sold it at $0 since it cost "nothing" to ship. On POs there is no way to add shipping after the fact. However shipping from raw materials suppliers is usually billed separately and at a later date. So it messes with the product COGs since you are being inaccurate on the shipping. We discovered many bugs in the onboarding process, indicating that the platform is very new and there aren't many users yet. We are still doing onboarding and it is around 3-4 months in. It is because the software isn't super intuitive and there have been bugs, which they fixed along the way but has slowed us down. We felt pressured by the sales rep to start our paid subscription even though we were still trying to make sure the software would work for us. Our onboarding rep also pressured us to finish the onboarding even though there were bugs and issues and the software needed to be fixed, and the rep was not available on multiple weeks we needed them. **What problems is Katana Cloud Inventory solving and how is that benefiting you?** We had all of our COGs data in spreadsheets and from 2020-2022 there were massive price increases on all raw materials. Our labor costs also went up as we gave all staff cost of living raises. This could not be adequately tracked via spreadsheets, and we were under-pricing many products. Batch tracking is excellent and exactly what we were looking for. It easily pulls in Shopify sales and (some) 3rd party platforms via Cart Rover, which we pay separately. For additional marketplace sites that Cart Rover doesn't work with, we still have to manually update stock. It is a relief to know our inventory is accurate at all times. The setup with Cart Rover is tricky but they give good support. Our raw materials are now all batch tracked as well. We can drill into COGs pricing on a very granular level and use that to decide which products to expand, which products to work on, and which products are not viable for us. If the forecasting issue were solved, it would be a massive help and save us additional hours each week. For now that is a sticking point for us that is causing manual work. ### 40. It deals effortlessly with our fast paced and fast changing scheduling.
