You can easily track funds which is key in a non-profit and something my previous software could not do. Aplos also integrates with our payroll provider and our debit card spend making reconciliations quick. **What do you dislike about Aplos?** I wish I could automate incoming transactions using 'rules'. I think that I still spend too much time reconciling bank account transactions. Also - I have approached our donation platform (PlanningCenter.com) about building interface with Aplos. Additionally, our experience switching from Church Windows to Aplos was extremely positive due to the fantastic virtual bookkeeper support during the transition and initial setup. **What do you dislike about Aplos?** Over the last 18-24 months, our bookkeeping support has been challenging. Due to staff turnover, we have had at least three bookkeepers during that time frame and have not been able to establish supportive working relationships. Additionally, when calling in for support, seldom is anyone available to assist. The notes field is essential in that new funds do not have to be created for short-term fundraising activities. While in the Donation realm, you can search for the fundraising activity, and they're all listed AND available to export. I also like the search function within the People realm in that the results are predictive as you type. THAT is awesome! **What do you dislike about Aplos?** With so many reports, you have to think like a bookkeeper—which I'm not. It didn't take long for me to learn and when I had questions customer support was very quick to respond. That being said, it was also easy for me to just google my question and there were step by step instructions right at my fingertips. I use Aplos for all my accounting, everyday. I went from using four different spreadsheets, to only using Aplos and one Spreadsheet (it isn't necessary to use the extra spreadsheet but it makes me feel better lol). **What do you dislike about Aplos?** The one thing I do not like about Aplos is that everything cost extra to implement. For example I do not pay for check printing, so I still have to write everything by hand, and make sure my check is 100% accurate when I put it in the system. Other than that, Aplos meets every need, and expectation I have. **What problems is Aplos solving and how is that benefiting you?** It keeps my accounting in sync perfectly because I have completed control over each fund. I understand why they did some of the upgrades, but I do not want things to constantly change and have to figure out the quirks of some of the upgrades. **What problems is Aplos solving and how is that benefiting you?** We just implemented Keela and we are hoping it will reduce some of the workload on the Accounting team. My reporting relies heavily on month to month and year over year comparisons. The reporting tool requires me to change and resave the formats each month **What problems is Aplos solving and how is that benefiting you?** Transaction entry on our old system was very clunky. The customer service is great, too! You almost never need to call Customer Service because the company is very pro-active in putting out articles and videos of features that you may have questions about. When you do ask a question to Aplos, you receive timely answers to your concerns. They have reports that can easily be customized to how you want to report your accounting information. They have helpful checklists for many tasks. Examples of checklists: Monthly, year-end, payroll, etc. When we began to use Aplos the software is extremely easy to use and didn't take a software expert to begin setting up the Chart of Accounts or making register entries. When we had an audit, it was very easy get reports for the Auditor and for him/her to use the software as a read-only user. I gave him/her an auditor log-in and the auditor was able to see what they needed. **What do you dislike about Aplos?** Trying to decide what reports to use! There are so many various reports and you can customize them so easily, I found it challenging to get our Council Members to give me feedback on the reports they wanted to see. I think it would be helpful to have some reports designated as standard reports so that you could say to the Council these are recommended standard reports for churches. Then as the Council Members get used to reading them and need or request more information, you can then introduce a customized report to them. I have used Aplos since 2014. I am a nonprofit Executive DIrector. Aplos makes wearing many hats easier. It doesn't help when it comes to a situation like fixed assets where we are having to hand enter everything. All there "add-ons" do not communicate smoothly with the accounting software. SERO did decide to pay the extra and had Aplos move our information from QBs to Aplos. This made the implementation and integration a breeze. I use Aplos to download transactions from all accounts every day. I've asked for help on several issues, and the customer support is terrific. Aplos has many valuable tools to make annual audits for certified financials much less time-consuming. Customizing accounts payable and receivable to track and store receipts is helpful. It is tailored specifically for nonprofits and is especially helpful for those with bookkeepers who aren't full-time. We are a relatively small organization (few staff and no building but managing over $1M annually in donations). The Aplos staff have been incredibly helpful on multiple occasions. They also offer applicable classes each month in addition to supplying a database of previous classes. Start up was fairly straightforward. I use this product five days per week and have already recommended it to other in some nonprofit support groups I frequent. **What do you dislike about Aplos?** There's been a few glitches along the way, but we just contacted the help team and we've always been able to work it out. In addition, they are actively making upgrades and taking suggestions. **What problems is Aplos solving and how is that benefiting you?** Aplos is helping us keep much of our information in one place. We use it as a CRM but also do our accounting here and it has been great. This is so much easier to do accounting. Very straightforward, easy to see at a glance, and know what is going on. Reports are easy to come by and if you cannot figure something out support is easy to get. **What do you dislike about Aplos?** I wish there was a checklist on setting up a system for us from the beginning. I did not initially start using bank reconciliation and now to go back and start using it is a time difficulty for me. Would be good to have a list for businesses. I am a nonprofit: 1. organize and set up chart of accounts, 2. enter beginning balances, 3. set up purposes in contributions, 4. make sure to use our bank reconciliation. One thing I have never been able to figure out how to use is the events program. **What problems is Aplos solving and how is that benefiting you?** Making the accounting for posting and reports easy. Saves time. I'm not an accountant, and it was so good to be able to learn from the Customer Relations Director how to use the various modules. I loved the concierge package which gave us a dedicated implementation trainer who also oversaw the upload of our data from our previous platform. Their team went above and beyond many times in making sure that we could use Aplos to our best advantage. We have some specific needs which the VP of Operations himself took much time in helping make a way for them to be met. The customer support has always been prompt, knowledgable and engaged whenever we have run into an issue or had a question. I have around 50 funds to keep track of, so I am using Aplos daily to stay up to date. We like having the features like depreciation, customizing reports for our needs, and bank integration, to name a few. Lastly, we like the price - it has been so worth it to change over from our previous platforms - separate CRM and bookkeeping platforms. That is the BEST part for us: Aplos is bookkeeping AND CRM all integrated together in one platform! **What do you dislike about Aplos?** I have to say that the third party partnership with the payroll platform Gusto was not at all a positive experience for us. In fact, it was quite a frustration. We have clergy and non-clergy on our payroll, and for more than one of them, Gusto could not get the payroll taxes correct for the whole nine months that we went with them. I spent many, many, ultimately futile and frustrating, hours on the phone with the Gusto support people, not all of whom really knew how their software worked. For the 1099 and W2 forms, I had to re-do many of them because they were inaccurate in spite of the fact that the monthly payroll had always been correct. At the end of the nine months, they finally admitted to me, in writing, that their software simply could ot correctly calculate the state and local taxes for one of our clergy who lives in Pennsylvania. When I asked if they were going to improve the software so it could do so, the reply was "No." **What problems is Aplos solving and how is that benefiting you?** It is saving an enormous amount of man-hours we formerly had to spend moving data from a CRM to a bookkeeping platform. It also has made simple the distribution of contribution letters at year end. Having no accounting background Aplos, they made it easy to learn and to implement our accounting. Aplos is easy to use and understand. I use it every day either for transactions, reports, or looking up something. Customer Support has responded quickly and with thorough easy to understand answers. When an issue was bigger and took time to resolve they followed up in between letting me know the status of the "fix". Recently we integrated our Bloomerang account with Apols and all worked well.
