What problems is Visual Studio Code solving and how is that benefiting you?

I switched from Sublime Text after waiting years for it to be updated (and that was a paid product), which was the best move I've made. Not only can I commit and push to source control from directly within the editor, but I can also debug and build .Net Core apps without needing to break out the full visual studio IDE.
