**What do you like best about Retention.com?**

I find Retention.com's data aspect really valuable. We don't send through Retention.com but receive data from it, which majorly helps with our outreach. Getting a good return on investment is evident, with a clear difference in results when using Retention.com versus not using it. This is mainly due to having access to signals and data on the people we're prospecting. I know many who use Shopify and ecom platforms find it extremely useful, even though we don't use those, we still benefit a lot. The setup was really easy—just making an account and either using short codes or possibly a plugin—and once activated, it started collecting data right away without any disconnections.

**What do you dislike about Retention.com?**

I don't have an e-commerce platform or use Shopify, so there are features in Retention.com that are geared towards those types of businesses. It's not that they don't work well for us, it's just that we're not fully using all the features that others might.

I really like Retention.com's revenue-first dashboard because it organizes everything around what's making profit, not just what's being opened. It's an email platform that actually cares about the pipeline. The support and strategic guidance are also really helpful, as their team actively helps us think through flow strategy, test new ideas, and optimize based on what's working. The onboarding process was quite long. Migrating flows and getting everything dialed in took longer than I expected but it wasn't a deal breaker or anything. The integrations and guided onboarding were helpful, but unfortunately, migrating existing flows took longer than expected, so maybe a 7/10.

**What do you like best about Retention.com?**

Our ecommerce business has been using Retention.com for nearly 6 months. The setup/implementation was pretty seamless. We've been most impressed with the "reclaim" campaigns (ie. they duplicate our abandon cart, abandon checkout, browse abandonment flows in Klaviyo and send them to subscribers who may have been missed by our normal Klaviyo flows). Since getting everything setup, we've seen a 5.1x ROI, which we're very pleased with.

**What do you dislike about Retention.com?**

We use both the "reclaim" and "grow" tools through retention (reclaim helps us recover existing customers, grow helps capture new contacts and adds them to our email list). The "grow" tool has added approximately 20k new contacts to our email list since launching it 6 months ago. However, we have noticed that these grow contacts aren't as qualified/engaged as our normal subscribers. The addition of these new contacts hasn't had a noticeable impact on our email revenue. I'm sure with some more work on our end we can figure out how to improve that though.

We chose Retention.com for two reasons: 1) to reclaim existing email subscribers/customers and 2) to grow our email list. Retention's reclaim and growth tools have done their jobs in both instances. We've seen a solid lift in email revenue from existing email subscribers/customers via the reclaim flows. We've nearly doubled our list size with their "grow" tool.

Onboarding is great; they set things up from the start, which is very helpful as I am part of a small team. They get the flows created and optimized and create the proper lists within Klaviyo. communication is great through out the entire process. I wouldn't call it a set it and forget solution, but it's not far from it. Installing the tool was pretty simple, and we saw a positive ROI in the first week.

Had some pricing issues in terms of onboarding at one price and then needing to upgrade less than 60 days later, but it was actually a positive in the end. Even after changing our plan, we maintained a very healthy ROI.

Capturing engaged users who most likely visit via paid channels. This tool has really helped us stabilize our blended ROAS.

Great at catching people who get missed from our eCommerce/Mailing Integration Tools, so we know more people who visit our site, and can email more contacts. Abandoned Cart Flows are the most clicked flows, so emailing more people is great. On the daily, once set up the tool runs by itself. No need to make very many changes.

**What do you dislike about Retention.com?**

Implementation was a bit challenging, because we wanted to make sure we were not double sending our Abandoned Cart Flows or any other emails. Our implementation specialist did not fully understand our mailing integration logic, and so our team had to double check everything and correct some mistakes that our implementation specialist had made.

**What problems is Retention.com solving and how is that benefiting you?**

There's a lot of people who bounce from our site and we are unable to identify them, Retention is able to find who they are and if they are already in our system, allow us to send them marketing emails. We've already received thousands of these contacts that we are able to email.

The only thing of concern with Retention.com is the impact to deliverability. They have improved by running additional filters, but it is something we continuously monitor.

**What do you like best about Retention.com?**

It's cool that you can capture user info from everyone that comes to the site

**What do you dislike about Retention.com?**

The dishonesty with their UX on the dashboard is troubling. They have this big green box that displays an outrageously high ROI (ours said it was 20x ROI), and when we dove into the actual numbers, they were super inflated. Retention attributes any customer who goes to your site and purchases but just so happens to be in their data base as retention revenue, even when retention never sent them an email or made any contact through their software. these customers all came from ads or other touch points in our funnel but retention still attributes the revenue to their involvement. 

That's just a flat-out lie. I get it, you need your customers to see a return, but come on, don't mislead people. Our own CSM told us to ignore all those numbers because they are misleading and just focus on a few. Or, if I want true accurate attribution, I had to go through all my Klaviyo contacts and do all the math myself, leaving me blind unless I spent hours trying to figure out if we were actually making anything with the software.

The second issue we encountered is the spam complaint, which they are upfront and honest about, but it's just too high, at least for our company. Maybe it works for others, and I'm sure it does, but long term, this would never be a good solution. The whole idea of collecting consumer information from people who didn't first party consent to you having their info is sketchy and not worth it in my eyes. It's only a matter of time before more laws are put in place to shut down this type of business model, unfortunately.


Does retention work? I don't know, probably for the right company. As an email marketer I wouldn't recommend it though, regardless of the industry . You're just going to cause more issues in the long run trying to repair your deliverabilty issues.

Honestly couldn't tell ya, They've never went over any solutions to the problems that were faced mostly just accepted that these were common issues that were expressed to them.

It's an easy software to set up and integrate that immediately starts generating incremental revenue from your email + SMS channels. Their support is great and super helpful, and it's been a pleasure working with their team.

Getting granular revenue reporting for some of the products they offer (Grow) isn't as granular as I'd like it to be, but I know they're working on better revenue performance tracking.

**What do you like best about Retention.com?**

Retention.com is a great way to build your email list and cut costs, especially if you use Klaviyo as your ESP. They fill a gap allowing you to drive revenue and collect emails from the majority of your traffic that doesn't submit to an email popup. They also provide a self-serve competitive offering to tools like Wunderkind if you're not looking for full white glove service and the high price tag that comes with it. The people on their team I've interacted with have been very friendly and willing to help out.

**What do you dislike about Retention.com?**

Works best if you're on Shopify. We're currently migrating to Shopify Plus but previously integrated while on Salesforce Commerce Cloud and things took a while. They also don't yet have a "checkout abandonment" option that would send the entire contents of a users cart. This would likely drive much better performance than the "add to cart" event they have which triggers off just the first event the user adds. It would also be great to get some visiblity into the match rate on your site to compare to other solutions like Wunderkind.

**What problems is Retention.com solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Retention.com allows us to email otherwise unrecognized visitors to drive revenue and add new subscribers to our list. Currently, about 25% of the emails we get from them engage (click one or more emails) and are then added to our main sending list. Having a self-serve alternative also allows us to test against tools like Wunderkind and potentially save significantly in fees.

It helps reveal 80%+ of the unknown website visitors who have been active with their email address in the past 7 days. That shared email address is piped to Klaviyo for a "Thanks for Visiting" email flow. The entire process is easy to use and implements well with Shopify and existing tech stack.

Not much of a downside other than a small cost to prove it's value of being able to email people who have looked at your site and not yet made a purchase.

Theoretically it helps us take advantage and capitalize on a very large segment that was not available to us without Retention.com. It lets us collect contact information of people who don't sign up to our newsletter or enter their email in the purchase process, and then we can continuously communicate with them and attempt to convert them.
Their service, support, and dedication are great, and are probably the main reason that made stay at the beginning before we started seeing actual results.

It takes a while to see significant results, and unless you have very high traffic, results are just OK and not as significant as we though and hoped to see. But overall the return on the investment is positive and over time results accumulate exponentially.

Without Retention.com we are only able to get contact information of a very small portion of our traffic - those who sign up to our newsletter, or those that get far enough in the purchase process at least to the point where they enter their email address. The rest are lost traffic. With Retention.com we are now able to get many of these people and add them to our lists.

We like that is allows us to gather data that we would not have access to without it. Most of the customer emails that we are able to gather are extremely helpful in our marketing campaigns.

The dashboard for Retention.com is extremely basic and could use improvement. Sometimes the software takes credit for customers that would have made a purchase any way but we are still well into a positive return on our investement even with that taken into account.

**What do you like best about Retention.com?**

The fact that you can capture net new customers without doing anything is incredible. You can stick with your typical 5% subscribe rate with popups, or you can add retention and get upwards of 20-30 percent. 

Be sure to add them into different flows like abandon cart or browse abandon. Test test test. See what works and pushes them over the edge. It's not like a typical welcome series. The didn't sign up, so you have to go beyond your welcome discount to people who do subscribe. I recommend using Fondue cash rebates with retention to arbitrarily give a much larger discount... you can do a 40% cash back and because only 50% of people take you up on it, it's basically a 20% off coupon. 

It's not right now, but having Retention at scale could potentially be affecting our math on allowable CPA.

We're a <$1m company currently, and trust me, it pays for itself. Tell them Paul at Mosi Tea sent you. Sign up.

You have to be careful with separating the retention "customers" for awhile to maintain the spam rate, etc. It's worth tracking and the extra sales you will get from it; however, this group will inherently have a higher spam rate and unsubscribe rate.

Unfortunately, the team. We've been with retention for a few years now and it feels like they have very high employee turnover; it can be really frustrating to have to re-explain things to new reps constantly & there have been times where we have no clear point of contact.

It makes our job so much easier to retarget our users! Retention / lifecycle marketing is such a large portion of our revenue, and the overall self-optin rates from users that hit our site isn't the best. With Retention.com, we're capturing about 3 times as many emails as we were with just an optin box.

**What do you dislike about Retention.com?**

The only issue we ran into was we were initially collecting email addresses from all visitors to our site, regardless of which page they arrived on. That lasted a couple of weeks before our ESP paused our account due to spam issues. After some digging, we found that emails collected from visitors who arrived on our blog articles from google were the bulk of the spam complaints, so we disabled the collection script from our blog articles, and everything has been running perfect since then!
