It also has a learning curve for advanced calculations and complex data modeling. Additionally, performance can degrade when working with very large datasets or highly complex dashboards if they're not optimized. Power BI helps me easily convert raw data into insights by using the data editor to transform the data, then connecting it to charts and building a dashboard. The biggest pain point is definitely when I have an urgent report due or a quick request from a manager first thing in the morning, and the cluster takes 5 to 10 minutes to spin up. Sitting there staring at the "Starting Cluster" status when you are on a tight deadline is deeply frustrating. Also, the pricing and DBU (Databricks Unit) model can be confusing to wrap your head around, and costs quickly spiral if you forget to set up auto-termination properly. I also occasionally run into version conflicts when installing custom Python libraries on specific runtimes, which can eat up half an hour just troubleshooting environment errors. Before using Databricks, our workflow was completely fragmented, with data engineering pipelines running in one place and our data models sitting on local machines, causing massive data redundancy. Switching to the Lakehouse architecture completely centralized everything and streamlined our daily routines. It has removed the traditional wall between data engineers and data analyst also data science, allowing us to collaborate seamlessly on a single platform. My honest assessment is that while it is expensive and the boot times are annoying, it is an incredibly robust platform that is hard to beat for heavy data workloads and serious data science. The speed issues in this application can be frustrating when trying to open Cube Data or Add Columns to Reports because it takes a long time to Refresh. We moved from On-Prem to Cloud last year, and trying to resolve some of these "small" items such as Masking Dashboard URLs or Importing Images Next To Links is taking a lot longer than expected. We are using it to bring many disparate data sources together into one Governed Platform instead of having to deal with Large Excel Downloads. I use Knowi to dashboard ecommerce performance, eliminating the need for manual CSVs and handling data beyond Google Sheets limits. Notebooks can quickly get messy once you start creating a lot of cells in the same notebook, and it’s easy to lose your place while scrolling to find the cell you’re looking for. I’m not fully convinced by this Notebook and App partitioning, because it feels clunky and confusing in practice. For example, when you’re working with tabs, it’s hard to tell in the Notebook which cells are associated with which tabs. I also found it strange that the order of cells shown in the App is different from the order in which they appear in the Notebook. One downside of SAS Viya is that it can have a steep learning curve for new users, especially those without a strong analytics background. Additionally, the cost can be relatively high compared to other tools, and some advanced features require extra configuration, which can slow down initial setup. Honestly I don't see any so far: If at all, it requires relatively high technical skill. It cannot be used effectively by a "plug-n-play" BI Analyst.

I started off liking Tableau as a BI tool better than PowerBI.

Then, I could see the compute downsides and missing git repo in Tableau compared to Looker.

Then, I can see the issue that Looker is very expensive and that Looker is not dbt integrated, i.e. you constantly need to maintain two disconnected repos and make changes in two places.

Currently, there are no major drawbacks to highlight. However, it would be beneficial if Jaspersoft offered more flexible or discounted licensing options, especially for organizations integrating it into their products. Jaspersoft has significantly simplified reporting across sectors. Traditionally, generating reports required building custom solutions from scratch, often with limited export options and time-consuming development cycles. Jaspersoft eliminates these challenges by enabling users to create complex reports quickly and efficiently. Its user-friendly interface and powerful features make report implementation much faster—like using a rapid development toolkit specifically for reporting. Gets a bit laggy when workbooks have a lot going on lots of elements, big datasets, that kind of thing. Some of the advanced features aren't super intuitive at first, you kind of have to figure them out on your own. Not a dealbreaker but could be smoother. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

We were spending way too much time building one-off reports for people. Now with Sigma, teams can build their own dashboards and trackers we use it for migration tracking, client project reporting, and internal operations tracking. The Snowflake connection was easy to set up and stays reliable, so everyone has access to real-time data whenever they need it. One drawback of Alteryx is its relatively high licensing cost, which can be a barrier for smaller teams. Complex workflows can also become difficult to maintain and version-control compared to code-based solutions. Additionally, processing very large datasets may require significant system resources and can sometimes be less efficient than scalable cloud-native platforms. Alteryx helps solve challenges related to data preparation, integration, and workflow automation by bringing data from multiple sources into a single, streamlined process. This benefits me by reducing manual effort, improving data accuracy, accelerating reporting and analytics, and allowing more time to focus on deriving business insights rather than managing data processing tasks. Performance on complex curious can be slowed pending on how the underlying data warehouse is setup. Looker itself isn't always the bottleneck but its hard to explain that two stakeholders steering at a spinning loading circle. pricing is also on the heavier site for a small operation its built for team with dedicated data infrastructure and the cost reflect that. Mainly eliminating the constant request queue that builds up when all reporting goes through one person. With looker the model is built once and stakeholders explore it themselves. Scheduled reports remove the manual work of pulling and sending numbers regularly. Embedded analytics turns data from an internal tool into something client facing. I would like it slightly more if it had more features to lock down reports and create truly reusable dashboards. Right now it's more of a scratchpad (which is very useful), but we still use Tableau next to it for our "gold standard" reports as Count can be quite "open" and does not (to my knowledge) allow for the possibility to completely lock down a certain canvas to enable users to use it as a dashboard. Luzmo enables us to deliver sophisticated forecast analytics visualizations—including complex metrics like wMAPE, Bias, and FVA calculations—without requiring our data engineering team to build and maintain a full front-end visualization layer. The Databricks connectivity allows us to leverage our existing data infrastructure while providing interactive dashboards.

Only constructive feedback I have is I wish there was a way to have data update immediately, but I don't foresee a workaround since this platform pulls data from outside software, and response times between the two will never be fully succinc - just the nature of the beast. Reveal provides embedded dashboards enabling our users to produce custom reports specific to their needs, without having to engage our team in custom development. Additionally, Reveal enables us to put our application data in the hands of data scientists, allowing a richer understanding of the data within our product.
