In this case I wanted to issue separate bonus checks, which I was not sure how to do but wanted to learn how to do on my own, and the support representative walked me through the entire process, including reviewing the steps to take when I want to issue the next one. **What do you dislike about Paychex?** There have been some rough periods during which certain features of Paychex Flex were getting the bugs worked out, particularly in the Timekeeping module, and at times there are cosmetic changes that are supposed to be enhancements but actually turn out to be inconvenient or impediments. Those are not to often, thankfully. Also, I'm not sure if the retirement benefits module is hosted by someone else, but it does not look or function quite the same as the rest of the application, and I find it somewhat less user-friendly. **What problems is Paychex solving and how is that benefiting you?** Paychex Flex provides automation of some tasks that make them much easier to deal with. We were early adopters of the time and attendance funtionality, and although it was a rough start, it is a vast improvement over other solutions we had tried. The payroll functionality has always been a strong point, and it has evolved nicely to keep up with our current needs. ### 3. For example: I set up payroll, then schedule it to automatically submit on a certain date (2 days prior to End of Pay Period). The platform itself is easy to use and navigate. Very user friendly interface. Can make changes easily without having to go through multiple steps. SOME (very few) reps have longevity with the company and are knowledgable. **What do you dislike about Paychex?** We've been using Paychex for 18 years and the last two years have been an absolute nightmare. Payroll: Payroll contact is the biggest mess. Our rep has changed multiple times and they constantly go on leave without notifying us. If a rep is out of office, which they always are, there is no designated back up rep to contact so you end up sitting on hold for 30+ minutes just to get a question answered or a hold removed. We run multiple payrolls under the same company ID throughout the week and we have to set any payroll after the 1st one as "no charge" since they process an admin fee for all employees even if you're only paying 1. Our semi monthly payroll is always put on "hold" due to it being a high amount, but we process it every month. You think they'd stop putting it on hold knowing this. Taxpay was processing payrolls late without notifying us until we got a letter from the IRS. And when we set up a new entity it took them months to figure out how to give them power of attorney and they filed our taxes late even though we did exactly what they told us multiple times. Communication: Emails constantly go unaswered. I have to follow up just to remind them I've emailed them in the first place. Customer service is okay but no one knows what their doing when you call for help, you go through multiple holds with multiple reps just for them to still not know the answer to something. Billing: There's no way to know what we're being billed for. We'll get random charges on our bank account outside of payroll and there's no place to see each charge. So we end up having to call to ask what the charge is for. ADP has a billing portal that shows each charge. We were paying for the "hiring" service on our account but it wasn't showing in our portal. Took 4 months for them to figure out how to give us access to the hiring service even though we were paying for it that whole time. New Entity/Employee Transfers: When we would add an entity to Paychex under our account, we'd have to jump through multiple hoops just to give someone admin access to the new entity. For some reason there has to be a user for every entity for that person to have admin access to it. So as an HR mangager I have 6 users set up in Paychex just to be an admin for the 6 accounts. We transfered an employee from one entity to the next with a rep at Paychex. They performed the transfer and then we realized the employee's 401k wasn't transfered nor were their deductions or taxes. So basically paychex did nothing but put the name in the new entity. When we submitted an official complaint to corporate expressing all of our concerns, we never heard back from them. Just goes to show how much they care about a client they had for 18 years. **What problems is Paychex solving and how is that benefiting you?** Paying our employees. Cobra management. Sending proper notices and documentation regarding cobra participants and eligibility. ACA filing and report preparing. Avoid this vendor with a 10-foot pole **What do you dislike about Paychex?** This is the second year in a row where Paychex over contributed to my 401-K exceeding the annual limit determined by the IRS. This opens a can of worms that IS NOT a pleasent experience, both in dealing with Paychex to issue a check for the excess amount, dealing with my CPA to rectify the oversight (which is not cheap), and of course dealing with the IRS RE: the excess contribution. This occured despite me a) adjusting my contribution percentage in 2022 (turns out Paychex takes 'several' pay stubs to reflect the new contribution amount - I wish it was more specific) and in 2023 I called several times to confirm the amount would auto-adjust once I hit my limit. They confirmed it would auto-adjust, and it did for the last three pay cycles but here we are at the end of the year with an unexplained deduction/contribution to my 401K. To get anything solved easily at this company is an impossible headache. They transfer you without notice, and put you right back at the end of the cue spending hours on hold. Their customer service can't create case tickets too and call you back, so every time you call you start from square one. I would also say their portal is incredibly clunky. It is 2023, not 1993. Everyone uses the time clock, and most of the time we don't even have to worry. **What do you dislike about Paychex?** Although I've managed to find my way through this, I struggled with using PTO and applying for unpaid days. In my previous position, our payroll system required employees to input their hours manually.
