"Solid, but sometimes I miss having more access "under the hood""
What do you like best about Microsoft SQL Server?

Rock solid stability and great ease of use (and installation). Integration with the operating system makes some automation tasks and maintenance flow much easier Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Microsoft SQL Server?

As a previous user of mySQL server sometimes I miss the peace of mind and the option of having access to "under the hood" variables and being able to peruse the source code of the application. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Very powerful and convenient for transforming and moving data."
What do you like best about Microsoft SQL Server?

To start with, I really like how easy it is to attach datasources to a process flow, and then map the results to an output. SSIS makes it incredibly easy to pull in data, especially from an extract, process/transform it, and then send it to an output of some sort (in our case, a different database). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Microsoft SQL Server?

While the tooling isn't bad, it does feel a little arcane to work with sometimes. Not everything is obvious and it's sometimes tough to follow what a flow is doing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"SQL Server 2008 R2"
What do you like best about Microsoft SQL Server?

I like the import functionality SQL Server Management Studio provides. It's easy to import data and tables. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Microsoft SQL Server?

There's not much to dislike. I think for beginning programmers, it could be nice to have a visual query builder. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Great tool"
What do you like best about Microsoft SQL Server?

Easy to use, especially with big data, very fast in comparison with xls Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Microsoft SQL Server?

Well, everything is ok, but for new users it is somehow hard to use it. For the first time I tried SQL, I thought I would never be able to use it, but then I started to work with the tool more and now it is very simple. I would recommend to prepare more materials on how to use it for beginners Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"SSIS it's a great ETL tool"
What do you like best about Microsoft SQL Server?

I love SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) it's the best ETL tool I know. One of the main features I like so much, is it's ability to create the data flows visually. It's nice to see a running package and see all the green boxes lighting up.

Not only, you can create the data flows visually, but also you can create code scripts using C# or VB.NET in the back end, making it super powerful, as you can even use existing code.

I also love the parallel processing capabilities, which allows you to run tasks simultaneously making it very fast. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Microsoft SQL Server?

For very large packages, something the screen gets a little hard to manage, you are either too zoomed in or too zoomed out, sometimes you even lose where the package went, and have to scroll until you find it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"SSIS is one of the best at what it does"
What do you like best about Microsoft SQL Server?

Extreme flexibility. When presented with a problem involving data transforms, I'm pretty confident I will be able to do the job with SQL Server Integration Services. There are a huge variety of tasks / step options that make it easy to plug in different transforms. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Microsoft SQL Server?

The User Interface could stand a bit more polish. The UI has lagged a bit behind other Microsoft products like Windows Server Manager. It's functional, but could use a round of enhancements interface-wise. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Analytics professional"
What do you like best about Microsoft SQL Server?

Multi-platform that can be used in many more deployment scenarios Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Microsoft SQL Server?

It implements a subset of of functionality of MSSQL, sometimes maddeningly so. Whenever I am forced to use MySQL I always feel like I have one hand tied behind my back Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Worked well even when accessed via multiple nodes and with a reasonably large load, 2 million or more records in a few hours.

Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Microsoft SQL Server?

Sequence and primary key generation was a bit different than other industry standard databases. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"MS SSIS for ETL"
What do you like best about Microsoft SQL Server?

Can inject code via the script task or transformation Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Microsoft SQL Server?

Weird versioning support - up until SQL 2016, you have to use the specific visual studio version for the target SQL Server deployment Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
