"Microsoft SQL Database Review"
What do you like best about Microsoft SQL Server?

Before, I'm an Oracle user, and I've discovered Microsoft SQL. It was the night and day. The Microsoft database is very friendly use. With a good database browser, it can help to create task, to view data and structure easily. The installation is also really simpler. The "free" license offer a good compromise to test it on "small project", even if the export database that can be done is larger than the one you can import - forcing you to go on paid licence. The SQL used by Microsoft is also simpler (inner, left and right join by example). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Microsoft SQL Server?

The system of licensing isn't very clear, as for Oracle. In all packages provide by Microsoft, it's still missing a good tool for comparison of database. Hopefully, some good editor can provide some, but with additional cost. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"I use SQL on daily basis to maintain multiple dbs"
What do you like best about Microsoft SQL Server?

There is a free version of the software and it is very robust. There is a version you can purchase, but i have yet to find anything i needed not available in the free version. My company uses the free version for just about everyone. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Microsoft SQL Server?

Often errors are not very useful and confusing, so it takes a bit of time to get through them. In the latest version the tabs seem to be easily grabbed and moved. It might just be my mouse, but they seem to jump around. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Worth the price!"
What do you like best about Microsoft SQL Server?

The best things about this product are

-> This product is free of cost with SQL Server database.

-> The product is designed more keeping a developer in mind and has a steep learning curve.

-> It can connect and retrieve data from multiple other databases/flat files.

-> Has an extensive list of connectors Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Microsoft SQL Server?

Dislikes

-> Very developer friendly. Sometimes I wish if there was an easier way to do things.

-> Does not provide an option to auto sort after a joiner transformation. A manual sort has to be performed for the result-set in memory to be rejoined with other tables.

-> No option for pre and post sql commands. Another transformation that runs a SQL command needs to be added.

-> HELP online or on the Microsoft website is not easily available

-> SSIS works purely with SQL Server. If an organization is planning to migrate from SQL Server to another Database a lot of investment would go into re-engineering with a new ETL tool. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"A backbone for a reason"
What do you like best about Microsoft SQL Server?

The sheer flexibility is worth the price of admission. Yes, there is a learning curve, but it is the easiest "language" you will ever learn. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Microsoft SQL Server?

While I may have been using an older version, it can be very easy for a user to corrupt a dataset if they don't know what they are doing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
