**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer & Network Security | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 30, 2018

**What do you like best about Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server?**

I like the new graphical configuration is really i like it which is kind of reg-edit. Also the FTP is integrated with the console making it full fledged. It has a improved GUI management. I am very-much comfortable in the command line meaning the option to manage the IIS server through Microsoft's Power Shell interface. Using the Power Shell snap-in for IIS 7.5, using commands to control i can view nearly any aspect of the server. It make our job a easier for managing scripts, build scheduled tasks and handle remote management.

**What do you dislike about Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server?**

This is really good one. Most of the things are met on this.

**Recommendations to others considering Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server:**

It depends upon what they want to build on top of IIS. It really has good feature and lot of new feature is already there with new windows server version.

**What problems is Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Website development.

  ### 31. Non-Unix server with all the bells and whistles

UI for managing sites and app pools, intuitive interface, high customization.

**What do you dislike about Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server?**

Lack of settings compatibility checks or testing tools.

**What problems is Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Deploying websites.

  ### 32. Old but good

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 09, 2018

**What do you like best about Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server?**

This is a solid platform to host sites and get highly creative if you have a complex envionment

**What do you dislike about Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server?**

Most of the need for IIS these days is gone. Use Azure Web Apps or hosting companies. Much to complicated for most needs.

**Recommendations to others considering Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server:**

Make sure you have a specific need for it. If there are not strong security requirements and it is for a basic website - use something else like Azure. If it is for Intranet - create a VPN to Azure and use Azure...

**What problems is Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

If you have highly custom network zones set up and load balancers routing specific traffic. IIS is for you. The web and application configs allow you to meet most requirements. Like FIPS, or MARS-e - etc. Outside of that if you have a typical configuration - use Web App hosting in Azure.

  ### 33. Still a top Web Server Solution

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lucas P. | Chief Information Officer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 01, 2018

**What do you like best about Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server?**

IIS 7.5 still offers a top notch solution that offers web sites all the hosting capabilities and the ability to integrate multiple other languages. Pricing has adjusted heavily in the recent years due to competition.

**What do you dislike about Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server?**

IIS 7.5 still has a few limitations and certain things end up costing a little more than they should since you still need to license certain pieces of software to use it.

**Recommendations to others considering Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server:**

IIS is still the industry standard and most reliable solution there is. Linux based platforms and Windows based tools have offered steady competition for this as well.

**What problems is Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

IIS provides me with the ability to host internal websites and services for my constituents to take advantage of.

  ### 34. The only choice for a .NET developer stack

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Insurance | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 20, 2018

**What do you like best about Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server?**

IIS is easy to configure, quick to get up and running. There is plenty of options for creating scripts to handle regular tasks, work with multiple sites, SSL, etc. etc. IIS can also handle other types of requirements like FTP, etc.

One of the most powerful features of IIS is the ability to work with PowerShell so everything can be scripted and automated by setting it to a schedule.

**What do you dislike about Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server?**

I wish there was an easy way to reset IIS through the UI. Currently the only way I know how to reset IIS is through a script with Powershell or command line. Another issue I've had with IIS is the frequency and necessity of patch updates that need to be installed. Usually when installing the patches you need to take servers offline which can hurt your overall uptime.

**Recommendations to others considering Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server:**

It's still really the best solutions for a .NET shop to use for hosting. We are really starting to look more closely at containers and other options for how we host our applications. For the foreseeable future however, we will most likely continue to use IIS until we have fully explored and tested any of the other options that are out there.

Still though, if you're a Microsoft shop with a primarily .NET tech stack, it's hard to recommend anything else.

**What problems is Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using IIS to manage all of our hosting for our .NET web applications that we currently host. We run multiple applications and front facing websites.

  ### 35. Easy start out of the box

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Maxim O. | Programmer, Computer Networking, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 28, 2017

**What do you like best about Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server?**

Just need few clicks for first run of the IIS web server.
Easy and fast setup if you do not need smart rules of forwarding, balancing of network, active directory integration, smart rules of different sites and so on.
Do not need to install additional software in the server, but maybe need some updates from Microsoft. Do not need to restart server for starting Web server.
Easy start and stop web server in several clicks.
Web Server doesn't have problems with other programs by same vendor Microsoft in the Server.
Support direct from Microsoft company.
Server does not need special complicated tunings for first successful run in the different integrations with IIS web server.

**What do you dislike about Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server?**

Cant easy save complicated settings into one script file.
If need several servers, or several sites with intelligent rules, it is not simply tunings.
Does not have external understandable logs and processes, need to search logs and services inside internal Windows processes for deep finding errors and debugging.
Does not support version control of web site (scripts, html files, database) out of the box.

**Recommendations to others considering Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server:**

If you need small site with small number of users, than IIS simply and out of the box solution. If you need smart site or/and big amount of end web users, than you need several administrators of web site, web server, Windows servers and you need to do complicate tunings for good performance.

**What problems is Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Do integration of IIS with HP UCMDB, HP BSM, HP Service Manager. IIS works fine in the Windows servers out of the box.

Interface is mostly the same since 2008.

**What do you dislike about Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server?**

Logging & Debugging tools could be a bit better. Security could use improvements - IP & Domain restrictions & FTP. Doesn't have a SMTP module for it, unless you use IIS 6. No native Ruby support. Doesn't have any monitoring tools built-in.

Web Hosting, Scalability, Self Support, and Resource Consumption.
