Data from all the applications is incrementally fetched and placed in a single data repository called Data Warehouse A BI tool is placed on the top of it , To provide ready to use role based reports/analysis/dashboards to the users, to perform adhoc analysis, to monitor KPIs .Currently we owns BI tool from Oracle called OBIEE. This is tool have multiple rating before we going to select this tool for dashboard and reports. Some of key feature wihich i like most that this is a business intelligence platform that delivers a wide range of capabilities including:
Ad hoc queries
Enterprise and financial reporting
Notifications and alerts
This tool is handles the full cycle of BI, from data preparation to analysis and dashboard visualization, along with robust extensibility and governance.
As this is the comprehensive product but this some complexity as well. Some of which i liked least is configuration is too much complex. Front end environment is not much user friendly which handle end user many time and there may be a chance they avoid to use it which we faced some time.
Considering the current nascent state of our analytics eco system here at I recommend feel that Oracle would be the best choice among the options as it would complement our other enterprise solution modules and complex analysis ability. Only major drawback you feel can be in terms of support, but given the support they have shown to our IT team we feel that it wont be a problem. Training will be played a vital and important role. So train the resource before you get this.
Previously no single source of truth i.e. same question can have different answers when checked on different reports
360 Degree analysis is difficult or not possible
Time consuming activity to gather data and generate report
Heavy IT engagement is involved in generating such reports
Authenticity of data is not ensured
These are the main and constant issue which we faced on almost daily basis. This tool help us to reduce this very much
