The completely proprietary nature of the platform and the high cost are the biggest drivers away from it. Until very recently you had to run it on Windows, and there are still a lot of quirks to it that make it so that it doesn't support the usual range of standard, and that make it just different enough from administering any other SQL-based platform, that it is difficult to justify choosing it as a platform. SQL I like that it is an easy-to-use tool and is manageable in every way. There are many tutorials online to be able to create tables, reports, and stored procedures, which makes streamlining processes more fun. SQL Server is slow and prone to error , the SQL Server Management Studio is highly complex in some spaces resulting in failures, Some services have no point as features like Master Data Services , Data Quality Services , etc.
