MS SQL is probably one of the top 3 most essential software which we have in our organization. It was introduced by Microsoft some 12-15 years ago and from that time, they have kept on improving it in every release. It comes packed with default integrations like "SQL Server Management Studio " which helps the developer in fine-tuning the database and also helps to form better and faster queries. The Free version for the developer is the icing on the cake because in free version also they give you around 25GB of space for creating/editing/deleting databases. We always start our new projects on the free version and then move onto the paid version, once the database entities are well defined.
The creation and maintenance of the databases are super simple and straightforward. The query language is quite easy to learn and once you attain a good exposure in them, you can write very useful and time-saving scripts. It supports APIs as well which makes it the best to integrate with other software because they can make an inquiry through the API's which is supports. Scheduling the auto backup and alerts in case of failure is another highly sought after quality because it notifies all the concerned parties that something of this nature has happened. The setting up of security and provisioning different user ids with different levels of access is very straightforward and resourceful too to keep in check that only the required person has access to that table and not everyone. It provides all these features but still, you will never face any lag or slowness, the queries will bring back the results in milliseconds. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
This software does the job very well but nothing is perfect and always has scope for improvement. The main thing which I'll like to see getting better is resource management which the software does because if you are running it on an old system with a small RAM. then it can slow other applications considerably because it ties up most of the resources with itself. Another thing which I find troublesome is that it is primarily a windows software and does not support other OS that well and which limits the usability to a large extent especially if you are having a mix of both the OS in the organization.
