Many years ago, when I was still a novice in the development world, I met SQL server, and it was love at first sight. I've never been disappointed, even in the worst scenarios, scenarios where other database managers have failed. SQL server comes hand in hand with Microsoft, which means it's not cheap, but if we're a small or freelance company, we can always move that cost to our end customer.
