What do you like best about Jama Connect for Requirements Management?

Compared to other tools (my main experience is with DOORS 9.3), Jama Connect provides a vastly superior interface that is far more welcoming and easier to use in comparison. Conducting reviews and approving items is all done within the tool, so the entire history, the engagement and the results are all stored together. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Jama Connect for Requirements Management?

Getting data out of Jama into formats such as a Word Document or Excel Spreadsheet, is supported out of the box, but customising the output to get it how you like using Word Templates is still extremely difficult and unintuitive. The next option is to use Velocity Reports, which is superior in getting it how you want, but is another level of complexity entirely. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Jama Connect for Requirements Management?

A valuable aspect of Jama is in its inherent traceability capabilities and its wide modularity. One can completely customise their item types and dictate the desired (and optional) traceability between those custom item types. Moreover, the automatic versioning of requirements and the ability to have enduring comments on requirements helps with a project/product that has been in a live environment for a number of years. This way, the exact meaning of requirements through its varying versions can always be validated. Although the layout of Jama takes some time to get accustomed to, the menus are very intuitive and it is usually clear how one should navigate the environments. We have not had the opportunity to integrate our Jama set with other often-used tooling in the industry, but the fact that Jama offers such integration capabilities is very useful for an organisation such as ours Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Jama Connect for Requirements Management?

There are so minor complexities that one could bump into whilst trying to organise the Jama environment to your own needs and desires in spite of its modularity. These can be circumvented through different design choices, but could initially hamper creativity. For example, a requirement can only be attributed to one Release, whilst it was our wish to let it come back in several Releases as part of different requirements packages. Moreover, the lacking of a visual 'family tree-esque' traceability overview can make the structure a bit more difficult in larger projects Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Jama Connect for Requirements Management?

JAMA Connect provides a platform where the source of the truth of the project can be captured and detailed. The best part of it is probably the Trace View area which can show 1:1 direct traceability issues across a snapshot of one of the requirement holding areas such as User Needs to Engineering requirements.

It is very easy to write a requirement and the templates are especially useful to create a consistent context and format. For User Needs and User mapping this is especially useful. Very easy to implement changes and cascade to the team.

Very strong customer support and engagement from JAMA. If we have an issue we know it will be listened to and we will get response in a quick time-frame.

We are now frequently using JAMA consistently and is allowing easy integration of requirements into our engineering R&D Practice. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Jama Connect for Requirements Management?

One downside to JAMA Connect in it's present form is the lack of overall visibility of the end-to-end User Need to validation journey. It would be great for the full coverage explorer of traceability to be easily interacted with dynamically. The customisation to add '' Show Relationships in Tree' should really be there already to allow the user to start at the inputs and lead all the way through. We had a 'DTM' template created but it doesn't really pick up Validation or verification plans/ reports very effectively.

Test Plans and Verification feels a bit buried in the software and it is not intuitively obvious to get to. Similarly, creating a validation plan or protocol to then be pulled through in a template is similarity quite difficult to do.

The editing of templates is quite difficult and it would be better if there was a customisation tool to allow the creation of a template without having to rely on the creation of velocity reports which take months to develop. It is not an efficient process of doing this. A simple tweak to a template takes a lot of effort and this should not be the case.

The Review process could be much improved as the workflows currently allow approval of rejected items in a review. If the entirety of a module is sent for a review with varying Transition States then there should be a smarter workflow or more customisation of a workflow. I have had many reviews with comments that go through and rejected items have been approved. I then have to remember what was rejected and make a manual note to then go back and change them from approved to rework. The up-revision of a new review completely wipes all previous approval but it would be ideal if something previously approved is flagged differently in the review.

In general there feels only one of doing things on JAMA and I think there could be more optimisation or tabs and customisation to allow better ease of use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

1. Limited Reuse of Multiple Item Types from Baselines and Filters

Jama Connect imposes restrictions on reusing multiple item types at once—either from baselines or filtered lists. While it is possible to reuse multiple items of the same type, there is no functionality that supports bulk reuse across different item types in a single operation.

Key Challenges:

- Users cannot select and reuse a combination of different item types (e.g., requirements, risks, and test cases) in one action.

- Bulk reuse is only supported when all selected items are of the same type.

- This limitation is particularly problematic when reusing sections of a project or product definition that span several types of artifacts.

- Filters also do not allow bulk reuse across item types, further complicating cross-project modularity.

2. Fragmented Item View Configuration

The process of configuring item views is unintuitive and lacks flexibility when working across different views or contexts.

Specific Drawbacks:

- New item creation does not prompt or guide users to configure the view layout.

- Users must manually remember and apply their preferred field layout each time.

- It is not possible to apply a consistent configuration across all views—requiring redundant setup for each view separately.

The user interface is great. You can very easily find requirements and the traceability feature is very powerful and easy to understand.

Jama Reviews are a little clunky and buggy, and lack a lot of features I would like to see.

There is certainly a learning curve to Jama and it took some time to come up to speed.

What do you like best about Jama Connect for Requirements Management?

Jama Connect is highly and easily customizable. Each item can be customized to the specific needs. Jama Connect helps to create and maintain the documentation for products in regulated environments, like medical devices, from design input to design output. It ensures full traceability between Requirements on different levels, to Risk Management and Mitigations, down to V&V results to fulfill regulatory requirements. Jama Connect allows to define specific traceability rules and is able to analyze the impact of changes to downstream items.

Collaboration is also a big plus in Jama Connect. With the integrated Review Center, it is easy and intuitive to gather feedback in an early stage already, and also to collect approvals for releasing the content. This helps to eliminate the need of having long and exhausting review meetings.

Finalized content can be exported in pre-installed, but also into customized reports/documents.

Jama Connect can integrate with a variety of 3rd party systems like Jira, to also achieve traceability across other platforms and tools.
