Having a sharp idea of how our datacenters or server rooms are is very important to be able to take good decision and be able to run remote support with physical devices. Their support is really outstanding, of course during the implementation there were challenges and areas for improvements, but they picked them up and made sure they get solved. This was not just limited to the beginning, they really try to make sure we're continously a satisfied customer. In case we run into questions or issues we can always rely that the support is picking it up very open minded and tries to help us to get it solved, without questioning immediately whether we can proof that the root cause isn't in our environment but in Device42, that's great team work. They're also very good in continuoulsy developing the product further, release new features and strive to make it better and better. The solution is very user friendly designed, but also very powerfull with all it's discovery features. At the beginning I was a bit missing a standardized training approach, like web based trainings to have an easier entry to some topics, as it might be a bit overwhelming studying the documentation or always engaging a Customer Success Engineer, but recently they also started their Academy which contained from the begining a good set of trainings and also a certification apporach. Also here the content is constantly growing and improving. When we were looking for a discovery solutions with Application Dependency Mapping feature, Device42 made a big difference to their competitors during our evaluation from a functional perspective and also with their support concept and they proofed it until today that we went for the right solution. **What do you dislike about Device42, A Freshworks Company?** I can't really say there is somehitng I dislike. **What problems is Device42, A Freshworks Company solving and how is that benefiting you?** Device42 is designed in a way to cover everything you need, to discover your environment entirely and get great visibility to everything. Previously we struggled that we have ONE solution to discover all kind of servers properly, be able to do Application Dependency Mapping and also be able to dicover typical data center infrastructure devices and their relations in an easy and professional way, Device42 definitely solved this challenge. Furthermore they also do there best to get most out of the data in an automatic way and show what we have in our environment (e.g. overview about subnets, vendors, models, software). ### 6. Engineers no longer need to do visual audits but simply find equipment in Device42 to get complete info. And with properly configured autodiscovery, we get rid of manual accounting of equipment. If you don't have enough some features in the UI itself then you can implement small http application yourself and configure receiving data from Device42 via API or DOQL (Device42 query object language) and visulize it in your applications. So we deployed our server room schemes with the necessary set of information ### 14. We are required to keep track of all of our Datacenter's customers racks and equipment and when large amounts of equipment is brought in or relocated we can update our records relitevly fast. Once the data is in the system we can then use that to create visual layouts to verify the data. In addition, I like that it is very easy to work with IP addresses. (Much better than with Excel sheets or something else) Devices are also designed to make it very easy. these can be cloned from the hardware very well. I additionally like the ease of managing users. This can be easily controlled through Active Directory (AD). **What do you dislike about Device42, A Freshworks Company?** it takes some time to fully understand Device42. So you have to plan more time for the beginning to understand the whole features and possibilities. Sometimes the system is not the fastest, which slows down the work. In addition, I would design the power layout differently. It is very well designed and you can add any component and network management. Build out your physical mapping first in the app (room, row and rack) then scans by Device subnet for proper discovery and device identification. Pull physical equipment first (Compute, Network, Storage) so the virtual devices will properly import linked to the physical devices they exist on.This can make a big difference on what type of scan you would use to discover the devices. A blind scan could bring in too much data to fast and you'll quickly become overwhelmed. **What problems is Device42, A Freshworks Company solving and how is that benefiting you?** Our data used to exist in multiple teams with no organization of how that data was kept. This allowed us to consolidate our physical and virtual devices as well as the network and application infrastructure without having to rely on other teams to keep it updated. We now can walk from a virtual device to the physical host to its location in a physical room, as well as other connected devices. They provide awesome assistance setting things up, and doing some of the more complex functions within the platform (such as writing the SQL queries for Advanced Reporting, or helping to correctly format the API). The platform itself is also very robust, and after using for more than 2 years in a production environment we have experienced 0 minutes of downtime for any issue related to the ITAM itself. **What do you dislike about Device42, A Freshworks Company?** One of the biggest negatives about Device42 is the Jira integration. Even with a very high powered Jira instance (brand new servers with the fastest cores we can get paired with plenty of RAM), it causes substantial slowdown when users open tickets for which the Device42 custom field has any value at all. In addition, the on premises version of Device42 REQUIRES a TLS 1.0 mail relay, meaning that if you have a mail system which enforces TLS 1.2 (like Office365) you will be forced to maintain a separate TLS 1.0 SMTP Relay server otherwise the scheduled reports simply will not send. **What problems is Device42, A Freshworks Company solving and how is that benefiting you?** Device42 has become a central part of our automation stack, and it's pretty easy to use API has given us the ability to fully integrate our automated server creation tools into the ITAM and our ticketing system. ### 21. I like very much the remote collectors. Very easy to setup appliances with an automatic update feature. Only open one port and you are able to monitor a whole site. Also we had a small issue regarding the autodiscovery: some of the VM's in our new Hyper-V cluster we're not being discovered. The support was quick and very helpful. We managed to solve this issue within a day thanks to the great support of the Device42 team! **What do you dislike about Device42, A Freshworks Company?** The only downside I experienced is when a clone of a Windows virtual machine creates a conflict with the original virtual machine. A simple sysprep can do wonders however. No issues with Linux.
