**What do you like best about CharityEngine?**

They provide a significant amount of one-on-one support throughout the implementation and ongoing use of CharityEngine. Their team offers personalized guidance, taking the time to understand our specific processes and needs, and tailoring their assistance accordingly. This hands-on approach helps ensure a smoother transition, quicker issue resolution, and greater confidence in using the system effectively.

**What do you dislike about CharityEngine?**

There is a wide range of customization options available within CharityEngine, to the point that it can feel overwhelming at times. While the flexibility is a major strength, allowing us to tailor the system to fit our specific needs, the sheer number of choices can make it challenging to know where to start or which approach is best. This can occasionally slow down decision-making or require additional time to fully understand and implement the most effective configurations.

**What problems is CharityEngine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Having a robust, centralized database in CharityEngine that also supports event auctions is a major advantage for our team. Managing donor data, event participation, and auction activity in a single system streamlines our processes and reduces the need to juggle multiple platforms. This kind of integration not only improves efficiency but also gives us a more complete view of supporter engagement.

In addition, enhanced email and text messaging features are a significant need for us. Stronger communication tools, especially improved segmentation, automation, and tracking, would help us connect with our audience more effectively, deliver more targeted messaging, and ultimately strengthen donor relationships and overall engagement.

**What do you like best about CharityEngine?**

Clean, minimalist design. Easy to navigate once you know where to look. The help articles are pretty good and the number of features right out of the box is pretty impressive. Additionally, our implementation team was AMAZING (shoutout to Michaela in particular). Implementation was smooth and the team worked on our timeline. Some of the importing from our previous CRM took quite a bit of work on our end, but Royce (tech) was incredibly helpful in getting us up and running.

**What do you dislike about CharityEngine?**

Not as intuitive as I would have thought. You really have to dig to find things, although I do know there is a search bar. The learning curve is also pretty steep, when you consider most of us are learning the system and changing CRMs, WHILE trying to accomplish our full time work. The Academy was also a LOT. Some of the terminology (tags, groups, badges) took a minute to wrap my head around.

I'm not sure, but I know they are very responsive when you add a suggestion

**What do you like best about CharityEngine?**

I like that Charity Engine is very detail oriented, and has potential to provide a ton of reporting and specificity, provided that the user puts in as much information as possible.  I also appreciate that our rep was always available to answer questions in a timely manner.

**What do you dislike about CharityEngine?**

While I appreciate the many intricate features of Charity Engine, I do think that the overall layout is not user friendly and intuitive, and it can be a really long ramp up to feel confident in the features and where to find important info. Also, some of the features could be set up at the same time rather than half set up in one section of the CRM, and then finished/tied together in another section.

**What problems is CharityEngine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Charity Engine is helping us to solve the issue of having 1 CRM system track 3 organization's worth of development revenue and prospecting. Even though the system is not always the most user friendly, it is looking very promising to be able to keep track of all our information in one place and reduce human error in tracking revenue and reporting.

CharityEngine is a robust platform with powerful customization capabilities. I appreciate how flexible the system is—especially when it comes to building tailored dashboards and detailed reports. This level of personalization makes it easier to track what matters most to our teams and adapt the system as our needs evolve.

There is a significant learning curve, especially for new users. The platform’s depth and complexity mean that onboarding takes time, and the initial setup can be very time‑consuming. While the features are strong, it requires substantial effort to understand and configure everything correctly.

**What problems is CharityEngine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We operate across three regions/affiliates, each previously using separate systems. CharityEngine has allowed us to consolidate those into one unified platform. We can now manage three distinct systems within one environment, create multiple dashboards for different teams, and build automations directly into our pipelines. Ultimately, it enables us to streamline processes and replace multiple tools with one centralized solution.

**What do you like best about CharityEngine?**

Everything! We came to Charity Engine after reviewing multiple other platforms. Our experience with our current CRM and those interviews with other platforms left us skeptical that Charity Engine could really deliver on the promises they made. Additionally, we were in a terrible time crunch with less than 60 days to negotiate a contract and then migrate from one platform to another - something that usually takes months. The Charity Engine team said they could do it, and they did! And the platform delivers on every single promise made in the demos and publicity - in fact, they deliver even more than we could have anticipated.

When is the last time you heard someone say they're happy to get into work and dive into the CRM?

Our experience with CharityEngine during onboarding has been overwhelmingly positive. From the outset, the CharityEngine team demonstrated a strong understanding of the complexity nonprofit organizations face when managing fundraising, donor data, and integrated campaigns.

The onboarding process was thorough, well-structured, and collaborative. Our implementation team took the time to understand our organizational goals, fundraising model, and operational needs, rather than forcing a one-size-fits-all solution. They provided clear guidance, realistic timelines, and hands-on support at every stage—from data migration and system configuration to campaign setup and reporting.

What stood out most was the team’s responsiveness and problem-solving mindset. Questions were addressed quickly and thoughtfully, and challenges were met with practical solutions rather than workarounds. CharityEngine’s flexibility and powerful automation tools have already streamlined workflows that previously required significant manual effort, allowing our staff to focus more on strategy and relationship-building.

**What do you dislike about CharityEngine?**

I haven't found anything to dislike. We're a small organization, and Charity Engine is costly for us, but it's an investment we believe will have a satisfying ROI.

**What problems is CharityEngine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

CharityEngine is solving the problem of fragmented systems and manual processes that make fundraising unnecessarily complex for nonprofits. Prior to CharityEngine, key functions were often spread across separate tools, requiring significant staff time to reconcile data and manage workflows.

By bringing fundraising, CRM, and marketing automation into a single, integrated platform, CharityEngine has given us a clear, centralized view of our supporters and how they engage with our work over time. This has significantly reduced manual work, improved data accuracy, and allowed us to automate essential donor communications and stewardship processes.

As a result, our team is spending less time managing systems and more time focused on mission-driven work, strategy, and donor relationships. CharityEngine’s flexibility and scalability have also strengthened our monthly giving program and positioned us to grow without adding operational strain. Overall, the platform has provided the infrastructure we need to fund our work more efficiently, thoughtfully, and sustainably.

So many things...I thought the price was going to be the biggest benefit but the knowledge and kindness of the customer support was incredible.  Charity Engine would be hard pressed to find someone more kind and competent than Michaela Hyden who helped through all of our trainings and transitions.  She is awesome!

So far, I haven't found anything within Charity Engine that has been a down side.

We just made the transition and Charity Engine is in the middle of all of our importing and implementing processes. They are making this much easier on our entire team than I thought would be possible.

Switching to Charity Engine has been one of the best decisions we've made for our organization. Charity Engine's implementation team set the tone with excellence. They were knowledgeable, thorough, and incredibly supportive throughout the onboarding process. They made what could have been an overwhelming transition feel manageable and even exciting.

Charity Engine has a truly unmatched level of support. Every help request or enhancement idea we’ve submitted has been met with a genuine willingness to listen and a prompt, thoughtful response. Their team has actively partnered with us to make sure we’re getting the most out of our partnership. 

Their communication is excellent, whether through regular email updates, training webinars, or alerts about new features. It's clear they care about empowering their clients and keeping us informed.

We also appreciated Charity Engine's commitment to innovation. They are constantly improving, evolving, and adding new capabilities that make our work more efficient and impactful. It’s rare to find a CRM that blends powerful functionality with a team that feels like an extension of your own.

Like any robust platform, there have been a few challenges along the way. Early on, we found it difficult to locate relevant information in the Help Center, which made troubleshooting slower than we’d hoped. However, they have significantly improved the searchability and organization of support content. Additionally, we've experienced some limitations in customizing certain forms and templates to fit our specific needs. We would also love if there were some additional features in the User Center portion of Charity Engine. These areas aren't deal-breakers, but they are worth noting. That said, Charity Engine’s willingness to listen and improve gives us confidence that continued enhancements are always on the horizon.

I like that it's an all-in-one package that includes newsletters, events, CRM, and fundraising. We don't have to worry about separate vendors or integrations.

We didn’t fully understand what was and wasn’t included in the package we signed up for, and we ended up having to make changes after the fact. In particular, we didn’t realize that sending emails from our own domain wasn’t automatically included. We’re still waiting for this feature to be enabled, and it’s taking longer than expected.

**What do you like best about CharityEngine?**

CharityEngine (CE) is very user-friendly and intuitive. It gives us one place to manage events, email campaigns, and SMS communications. My favorite feature is the bulk email tool—I use it every January to send year-end receipts to all donors at once, which saves so much time and reduces calls requesting copies.

The query builder and built-in reports are simple to use, and each module feels thoughtfully designed. I also appreciate the CC Updater for keeping our monthly sustainers on track with their giving.

The support team is excellent, with easy ticket submission, a new 1-800 number for quick help, and ongoing webinars and help articles that make learning effortless.

As a Database Manager using CE daily, I’m very pleased—it’s efficient, reliable, and continues to improve with user feedback.

**What do you dislike about CharityEngine?**

The system can occasionally lag due to its size and complexity

**What problems is CharityEngine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

CharityEngine has helped us bring most of our fundraising channels together in one place—SMS, email, and newsletters—making it much easier to manage and track communications. It also helps me organize donor notes and provides automation for several key workflows we’ve implemented with their help.

We now have automated series for new donors, new sustainers, and memorial gifts, all running seamlessly in the background with no extra effort from me. This automation has freed up valuable time to focus on donor relations and building stronger connections, which has directly led to more frequent and larger donations.

What I like best about Charity Engine is the ability to capture so much relevant information for donors. Also, being able to use that information to foster and build relationships with donors.

It's not really a downside, but there is a rather large learning curve as Charity Engine uses terminology that users may not be familiar with and there is a lot to the set-up.

Once the system is set-up using Charity Engine will help me get time back that I have had to spend collecting data to interact with donors.

**What do you like best about CharityEngine?**

CharityEngine, in the month that I've been using it, has been such a great tool to hone in on the things I need to do my job and run an organization on lean staff. It's been the prefect fit, allowing so much customization and a consistent look across our platforms. I'm daily impressed by the quality and intuitiveness of the product, and the customer service is fabulous.

Through the registration forms, we've been able to get small, episodic, donors through the door who have never given before. 

Next up, taking a stab at integrations! I'm excited to even have this possibility through CE.

**What do you dislike about CharityEngine?**

The few downsides I've found so far is the you have to hover over the icons for a longer time than seems normal to find out what that icon means. I also think the sheer amount of information available on one page can be visually overwhelming, but some of that I'm learning to tailor to what I want to see at any given time.

The other thing is navigating API keys/javascript/code with embedding our donation form into a SquareSpace website. So far it's been pretty complex and code-forward to add that feature. I wish it was as easy as adding an embed link.

Ease of use, consistent brand look across forms, intuitive functions, and PCI compliance that we didn't have before!

**What do you like best about CharityEngine?**

I find the staff at CharityEngine to be incredibly helpful, thorough, insightful, and knowledgeable. I really appreciate how they are always ready to jump in and solve any issues or problems we're working on, ensuring our experience is smooth. Additionally, they are very receptive to our suggestions or innovations, which they often implement into the CharityEngine platform, enhancing its functionality. I also find the query tools exceptionally valuable as they allow us to identify and work with groups of individuals effectively, whether for organizing events or conducting outreach programs. Furthermore, I am pleased with the seamless integration of CharityEngine with Microsoft tools, particularly Excel, which supports our internal reporting needs efficiently. Overall, I believe CharityEngine offers superior functionality compared to other mainstream donor applications, providing more value for less cost.

**What do you dislike about CharityEngine?**

CharityEngine, while being a very complete system, requires substantial time to learn due to multiple ways to access information. The initial setup was more challenging than expected because of the complexity in data mapping from the previous system. A database map would have been helpful to understand where fields from the old system transitioned into the new system.

We use CharityEngine to maintain donor relationships, set up events, communicate with our donors, and plan fundraising campaigns.  It helps us effectively enhance our donor engagement and provides simpler event management.

CharityEngine's implementation team is attentive, knowledgeable, and accurate in transferring data. The process from sales demo to implementation has been streamlined and I'm impressed with the speed at which tasks have been completed.  The team provides excellent customer service at every step during the process!

**What do you dislike about CharityEngine?**

Getting comfortable in a new system is to be expected and I have not found anything that I don't like yet.

CharityEngine is a one-stop-shop for Event Registrations, day-to-day donations (including forms), e-commerce and donor relationship management.  We are thrilled to have all aspects of fundraising in one place - it makes our donor cultivation efforts more streamlined and efficient.

I really liked how available the staff were to answer questions. It was so nice not to have to Google how to do something. Since I knew nothing about setting up a donor database, they walked me through each step and procedure so I could get the information I needed.

**What do you dislike about CharityEngine?**

So far, the main thing is that I’m still getting used to working in different software, and that really isn’t CharityEngine’s fault.

CharityEngine provides us with an affordable database that’s tailored to our needs, and it doesn’t charge us for thousands of constituents we don’t have.

**What do you like best about CharityEngine?**

I love the ability to do advanced searches on any dataset without having to create a query every time. I also appreciate the ability to save reports from these searches and automate their delivery. 

Email communication and campaign management are awesome features. 

The implementation team was amazing. Uzoma and Royce were extremely knowledgable, helpful and kind. Customer support services are extremely useful. I love the ability to see all my tickets in one place, historical tickets, and allow my co-workers to see all the support tickets as well.

**What do you dislike about CharityEngine?**

The thing I dislike the most about Charity Engine is the User Interface. I appreciate the minimalism, but the design feels outdated and a bit bland. The user experience isn't super straightforward for older folks, but still manageable to learn after a few videos.

The automated workflow options could be enhanced, as well as the email communications methods.

**What problems is CharityEngine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Charity Engine is helping us segment our donors and steward them in the correct direction based on this segmentation. It is also helping us improve our campaign strategy by being able to track donation sources from various campaign creatives.

**What do you like best about CharityEngine?**

I like that CharityEngine is intuitive and easy to use. When I need to update reports for password changes or make corrections, it’s easy for me to navigate and find what I’m looking for.

**What do you dislike about CharityEngine?**

Sometimes it seems like reports don’t always come through to our SFTP site. Also, when I need to rerun queries, it won’t let me save the SFTP connection information, so it’s a nuisance having to re-enter it every time.

**What problems is CharityEngine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

CharityEngine has been in place the entire time that I have been in my role and I use it for transferring data to and from our CRM.

**What do you like best about CharityEngine?**

Reports run quickly. Customizable dashboards. CE tech support is very friendly and helpful.

**What do you dislike about CharityEngine?**

No designated area for planned gifts: annuities, wills, etc. Can't post a split-allocated gift, have to enter each allocation as a separate gift. Can't readily see the name of the entity getting the soft credit - have to click on link number or manage transaction and select the soft credit tab and vice versa for hard credits. Awkward view of education and job listings. Can't give tribute to multiple entities with single gift. Have to add names to tribute list before they can be entered on the gift transaction as a tribute. Can't join a gift with another individual without creating a household. If spouses divorce, household gifts do not follow individuals. If spouse dies and survivor remarries, household gifts do not follow deceased spouse. Lacks ability to attach document to specific records of people/organizations. For example, cannot attach pdf of appraisal, etc. to a gift-in-kind. Current product may be better suited for churches or non-higher ed charities, but CE is adding to and refining product to better support higher eds.

Working on better ways to manage household gifts when spouses divorce or when one spouse is deceased.

Downsides are few and far between. Even when something hasn’t been thought of, the team takes it into consideration right away. The only challenge is that we can’t learn it all fast enough!

**What do you like best about CharityEngine?**

CharityEngine is unique in that it has an "in" CRM payment processor that are direct linked to your online donation forms and then feed back to the donor profiles for instant transaction updates and tracking.  I love the build out of the Campaigns and Initiatives, again to really track how people are finding your website, your online forms and then following through with their donations.

**What do you dislike about CharityEngine?**

I would say it is a very complex system to learn.  Be sure to allow yourself plenty of time for a data migration and complete conversion to this new system.  Their online Help Center articles are vast and can be helpful, but again the learning curve of the interface can feel very challenging.  HOWEVER, their Support Ticket process is very easy, and they respond quickly when you have an issue.  Also, I would highly recommend a Professional Service agreement for at least the first year.  The time spent with your Professional Service representative is invaluable!

**What problems is CharityEngine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our old online Webforms on our Website were cumbersome, clunky, and we had to do DOUBLE reconciliation and THEN data enter them into our former CRM.  The in-CRM payment processing is fantastic!  Time saving, accuracy is unbelievable once you set up your forms properly to code to Initiatives, Funds, etc.  CharityEngine also has a very robust in-CRM E-Mail Initiative and content builder platform.  It was SO comparative to our former E-Mail system, that we were able to stop that extra expense because our new CharityEngine CRM can do everything for us included with our software application!

Like any robust CRM, there is a learning curve in the beginning because of how many features are packed into the system. Some functions take a little time to get used to, and occasional customizations may require support to implement. That said, the CharityEngine team has been responsive and helpful in guiding us through those areas, which makes the process much smoother.

CharityEngine has solved the challenge of having donor, event, and communication data scattered across multiple platforms. Before, we were piecing together different tools that didn’t talk to each other, which made reporting, follow-up, and donor relationship management difficult.

Now, everything is centralized. Donations, emails, event registrations, and donor history are all in one system, which saves us time, reduces errors, and gives us a complete picture of each supporter. This makes it easier to engage donors, track outcomes, and scale our fundraising efforts with confidence

CharityEngine's recent UI upgrades are impressive and it is helpful to be able to customize contact records with the information that is most valuable to your organization. I enjoy that the system is generally easy to use and that the team members are very responsive if/whenever issues are encountered! Now that there are more robust options for P2P integration, as well, this has streamlined our transaction record-keeping for larger fundraising events.

Using the queries feature can sometimes be a complex process, however CharityEngine Academy and the team members are both helpful resources that can help you navigate this and determine how best to leverage queries for your purposes.

We were utilizing a plethora of softwares/platforms to execute our fundraising. Charity Engine puts everything in one place, which helps with donor management and offers a fuller picture of our donor. The customer support team is very responsive and helpful.

Still some kinks to be worked out but having conversations with the support and experience team makes us feel like we are part of the solution. The platform does take some getting used to (not always user friendly) but with the responsive IT support team and extensive resource library make learning the system more accessible.

**What do you like best about CharityEngine?**

This is a useful and innovative product for non-profits. Overall, I use it in an events and communications role and find those sections to help us do what we need - send newsletters, create events with tickets, rsvps, etc.
The webinars and monthly product showcases are nice to attend and are pretty helpful.

**What do you dislike about CharityEngine?**

The help center can tend not to be so helpful - I either can't find what I need or it is outdated. 
The p2p is still developing and has some glitches even in the most basic form we found. The good thing is that it has the ability to hold credit cards, but has some issues with people registering for an event if they are a returning user or already in the database. We've worked with the CE team to help solve these problems and hopefully, they keep improving!

**What problems is CharityEngine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The p2p functions. We use this for two major events.

The most helpful aspect of CharityEngine is having an all-in-one platform that manages donor relationships, fundraising, communications, and payments seamlessly eliminating the need for multiple systems and real-time reporting. The integration of payment processing directly within the platform has been especially valuable, as it simplifies reconciliation and reduces errors.

**What do you dislike about CharityEngine?**

The downside to using CharityEngine is not having the ability to customize payment methods.

Combines CRM and payment processing in one solution with built-in payment tools make it easy to process one-time gifts, recurring donations with funds quickly deposited and easily tracked.

CharityEngine is very comprehensive CRM that incorporates regular donation, sustainers, event attendees, eblasts, sms, surveys, donor reports, analytics and so much more.

**What do you dislike about CharityEngine?**

once in a while, a feature or function in CE just stops working. But CE fixes it pretty rapidly.
Not all data fields are exportable/importable
sharing of P2P fundraising pages on social media should be more dynamic. When shared on social media, the image should be the same one that is on the person's P2P page

**What problems is CharityEngine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

the canned compare campaign report is not working well and I believe that is being fixed
The starting bid really should be the starting bid, not the current Top Bid. For example, when an auctioneer says "alrighty folks the starting bid on this item is $100, who wants to start by bidding $100.
Event registration e-receipts need to reflect the proper tax-deductible amount if the registrant covers the processing fee.

**What do you like best about CharityEngine?**

What I like best about CharityEngine is their expertise in payment processing and sustainer management.  Also, their open APIs and Reporting tools make it easy to integrate with some of the other vendor partners we work with in support of our DRTV sustainer program.

**What do you dislike about CharityEngine?**

Very little to say here.  If I had to pick something, I would say that the more help center articles they can produce, the better - there are so many different things you can do with the product.

**What problems is CharityEngine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I used CharityEngine at Wounded Warrior Project to drive our Direct Response Television Monthly Donor program. As the payment processing and sustainer management database of record, CharityEngine was very flexible and provided a lot of features and functionality that allowed us to integrate many different vendor partners. It made it much easier for the team to manage everything in the complicated environment we built.

I now oversee Direct Response Television for EasterSeals and will use CharityEngine to build the program from the ground up.

**What do you like best about CharityEngine?**

While each of the apps have special features, they all function in similar ways, so once you get to know one app, it's easy to learn others. I also love how willing charity engine is to build out features that can make our lives easier. Staff at charity engine are attentive and always willing to help us find existing features that will serve our needs, or build out new features if those aren't what we need.

**What do you dislike about CharityEngine?**

I want to see records like households and affiliates built out a bit more. While records roll into household data, it can be hard to pull that data into a single line on report. Something that also can be frustrating is their use of non-industry standard language. There is a bit of a learning curve when we bring in new folks who have fundraising experience and experience with a plethora of other CRMs that all use one language while CE uses another.

**What problems is CharityEngine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

First and formost, charity engine traveled to our location to do an on-site training because we as a team were not on the same page in terms of what we could and couldn't do within Charity Engine. This alone was incredibly helpful because many of our frustrations within the system were born out of not knowing what all it could do. They're also building out the way affiliate organizational records talk to each other, which will allow us to see the total impact of an organization without having to look at each child org's record and adding manually. They are also working to see how we can link webforms to records so that the impact of the donation form can be seen in the attributed on the record. They have improved batch entry processes

**What do you like best about CharityEngine?**

CharityEngine allows our office to keep track of donors and other contacts, manage email distribution lists and send emails, and generate very specific lists and reports in a single system. The contacts app, in particular, is very user-friendly and easy for staff who don't use CharityEngine daily to navigate and find the information they are looking for. The ability to generate custom reports and create custom dashboards allows our CharityEngine Super Users to easily compile relevant data and reports to share with our less CharityEngine familiar staff in a way that is easy for them to access and understand. Overall, CharityEngine makes it easy to streamline our work and lightens the workload of both our frequent and in-frequent CharityEngine users.

**What do you dislike about CharityEngine?**

Communication has been a struggle with CharityEngine, especially with regard to new features. Articles in the help center are often incomplete, confusing, unhelpful, or non-existent (though they have improved overall in the past year or two). Additionally, support staff sometimes take quite a while to reply to questions or requests for help. While most of the sections in CharityEngine are relatively user friendly, the permissions section (for administrators to give user's access to certain parts of CharityEngine) is not user-friendly and the long, list-like organization makes it hard to find the settings you are looking for.

**What problems is CharityEngine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

CharityEngine has enhanced our ability to send emails to specific lists and has allowed us to create tailor-made content targeted to very specific subsets of our audience, which would be very difficult without the system. CharityEngine has also helped our colleagues keep better track of potential donors and potential donation opportunities through the opportunities function. Similarly, the outlook connector function has made it easy to track emails with donors, sponsors, etc. that we want to keep a historical record of without a lot of manual work. Prior to using CharityEngine, our office had to use multiple systems to accomplish what we do solely through CharityEngine, so that has been a huge benefit.

**What do you like best about CharityEngine?**

CharityEngine's Billing Engine, which is very powerful, especially as it relates to the ongoing billing of our large file of recurring donors. They have built in tools to ensure these donors remain on file as credit cards expire or become invalid.  Our retention rate on recurring donors is very high as a result.

**What do you dislike about CharityEngine?**

While expected with a product as robust as CharityEngine, it can take some time to train new employees on the software.  With that said, though, their Client Services team is always available to help out when needed.

**What problems is CharityEngine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Wounded Warrior Project's DRTV fundraising model, which drives our recurring donor growth, is complex and requires many vendors to be in sync at all times.  With CharityEngine's strong reporting infrastructure and integration API, keeping these vendors coordinated around donor and transaction data is painless and efficient.
