What do you like best about AWS Lambda?

AWS Lambda is used primarily by about 20% of our staff and only in our development department. We use AWS Lambda for developing and managing our application over the cloud platform. We internally provide cloud-related solutions to our dev groups and develop web apps and services on cloud for them. So whenever we have to provide any computation related work for that particular app than I use AWS Lambda because it is easy to use and scalable and also costs less than any previous solution we have reviewed Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about AWS Lambda?

AWS Lambda is an event-driven, serverless computing platform and a compute service that runs code in response to events and automatically manages the computing resources required by the code. AWS Lambda is being used by our team and across the whole organization. It's being used as part of our DR solution to run the code at scheduled times. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering AWS Lambda:

Anywhere you have an isolated responsibility of your code, AWS Lambdas are well suited for. If you have something that has to perform an intensive calculation - it makes sense to offload that to something like an AWS Lambda. Or something that needs to send data and integrate with another service, it can be a good place for that interface/job to live.

It can be possible to build a larger architecture using a series of AWS Lambdas, but it could become hard to maintain and be hard to understand very quickly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is AWS Lambda solving and how is that benefiting you?

AWS Lambda is best for short-lived applications/codes. Configure AWS Lambda to act based on the events that are produced on certain services. It works. We used it to move the RDS snapshot from WEST to EAST and EAST to WEST whenever the RDS automatic backups are done. It helps in other scenarios, like when application teams don't have a server or don't have a place to run a job on a regular basis. Then we can leverage this AWS Lambda to run the code against the database. As I mentioned, this is not suited for long-lived applications. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about AWS Lambda?

I like how I can deploy code in AWS Lambda manually (for personal use cases) or using AWS sdk. Also, I integrated lambdas in several different ways depending on my needs, from an aws API gateway to a dash button. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about AWS Lambda?

The fact that it delivers on its promise. Lambda allows you to run code without worrying about servers. This reduces a lot of headache which comes with traditional architecture implementation. One thing that really blows my mind is how AWS Lambda scales up or down the internal servers being used depending on the needs of the function. Lambda, thus, speeds up development. Also, it integrates very well with other AWS services - S3, SNS, CloudWatch(indirectly) and pretty much any other service as you can always use the AWS SDK in your function. What do you dislike about AWS Lambda?

One thing that I would expect Lambda to do better would be to provide a better UI and a better IDE to code. Having said that, one cannot expect all features as in a full-blown IDE like IntelliJ Idea. Another downside to Lambda is that estimation and planning for costs becomes very difficult. Also, Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering AWS Lambda:

If you are heavily invested in the AWS ecosystem, but have still not given Lambda a shot, you are missing out on a lot of powerful stuff. Since Lambda integrates fabulously with events that come from different AWS services, there is a lot that you can do using AWS Lambda. Lambda is best suited for cases where you can break down your functionality into smaller discrete functions. If that is not possible, it would be better to go with traditional backend. What problems is AWS Lambda solving and how is that benefiting you?

We use several CloudWatch alarms based on custom metrics which send message to an SNS topic, which in turn invokes a Lambda function. We also use it to take manual snapshots in RDS, and also to delete those that are more than 1 month old. Apart from that, there are several other usecases that we use Lambda for. What do you like best about AWS Lambda?

The best thing here is to not be responsible for autoscaling, least prize, not responsible for maintained the infrastructure and above all so many available user friendly Integration libraries. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Vast trigger integrations, more than any cloud.

Many build in features, like dead letter queue handling, on error requests.

Very good UI for config manipulation.

Fast logs viewing via Cloud Watch.
