  # Best Portal Software - Page 2

  *By [Adam Crivello](https://research.g2.com/insights/author/adam-crivello)*

Portal software helps users create an entrance point for access and navigation through intranets. Companies use portals to create accessible and centralized platforms for anything from digital dashboards to application access points.

These platforms provide tools to create access points, organize data, and integrate applications. They are often used by enterprise-sized companies looking for increased accessibility to a large number of users. The other common form of portal software is an infrastructure portal, which gives developers access to internal applications, code, and data.

Portal software often includes features like drag-and-drop interfaces, pre-built templates, and system integration. It can also include important security measures like access control and enforced user authentication. This enables developers to create portals that are interactive, secure, and aligned with an organization’s specific needs.

Many technologies like [single sign-on (SSO) software](https://www.g2.com/categories/single-sign-on-sso?source=search) and [enterprise search software](https://www.g2.com/categories/enterprise-search-software?source=search) often utilize portals. However, portal software stands out by providing users with the development tools necessary to build custom and internal portals.

To qualify for inclusion in the Portals category, a product must:

- Create central access points for accessing company data and applications
- Develop an intranet for company applications and information
- Manage user access to specific types of content to decrease the risk of security breaches or data theft

### 7. [remberg](https://www.g2.com/products/remberg/reviews)
remberg is a Germany-based software company building modern maintenance software for industrial companies across Europe. remberg was created to help maintenance and service teams replace fragmented tools like spreadsheets, emails, paper documentation, and isolated systems with one intuitive, connected platform. The focus is not on complexity, but on software that fits real operational work and can be adopted quickly across the organization. The remberg platform supports the full maintenance lifecycle end to end. Teams can manage assets and technical structures, plan and execute work orders, and document all maintenance activities in a standardized and traceable way. Maintenance plans, inspections, and recurring tasks are easy to set up and adjust, helping teams move from reactive breakdown handling to structured, preventive maintenance. Centralized documentation ensures that manuals, instructions, and service histories are always accessible and up to date. A core part of remberg is its mobile app, designed for everyday use by technicians in the field or on the shop floor. Work orders, checklists, asset data, and documentation are available directly on mobile devices, allowing teams to document work as it happens instead of after the fact. Photos, comments, and status updates can be captured on the spot, improving data quality and reducing follow-up work. This leads to higher user acceptance and more reliable maintenance data across the organization. remberg also integrates AI functionality directly into the platform to support maintenance teams in their daily work. AI helps with tasks such as structuring and completing maintenance documentation, extracting relevant information, and reducing manual effort in reporting and follow-up. Instead of being a separate tool, AI is embedded into existing workflows, supporting teams where it creates immediate value without changing how they work. This makes it easier to maintain clean data, stay audit-ready, and scale processes over time. The primary value of remberg lies in creating clarity and control in maintenance operations. By combining planning, execution, documentation, and reporting in one system, companies gain transparency across assets, workloads, and costs. This helps reduce downtime, lower maintenance costs, and improve safety and compliance. At the same time, teams spend less time on administrative tasks and more time on meaningful, value-adding work. remberg is built to scale with growing organizations. Its modular approach allows teams to start simple and expand functionality as needs evolve, without overwhelming users. The result is modern maintenance software that supports long-term operational excellence while remaining easy to use in everyday practice.

### 8. [WiFiDog](https://www.g2.com/products/wifidog/reviews)
The Wifidog project was started by Île sans fil and is currently in production. Existing captive portal solutions were either almost impossible to embed ( NoCat, which relies on perl, GnuPG , OpenSSL), or only designed to display disclaimers with no access control at all (NoCatSplash and others). Wifidog is designed to have optional centralized access control, full bandwidth accounting, node heartbeating and local content specific to each hotspot. It does not rely on a javascript window, so it works with any platform with a web browser, including PDAs and cellphones. It is developed in C to make it easy to include in embedded systems (It has been designed for the Linksys WRT54G, but runs on any recent Linux platform). A typical install only takes 30kb on i386, and a fully functionnal install could be made in under 10 kb if necessary. The portal suite is mainly an authentication server coded in PHP using a PostgreSQL database. On the other side, the Wifidog gateway connects to the auth-server for directive based on information submited by users in one of the hotspots. All administration/logical stuff are in the authentication server and the gateway is only playing with gateway firewall rules to allow or deny the users access. Also of note are the extensive LBC (location-based content) management features available. There are some LBS (location-based service) features available and they continue to be an area of development.
