TriNet's pricing model is characterized by transparency and predictability. TriNet charges a flat fee per employee for administrative costs, with payroll taxes, benefits, and workers' compensation presented as separate invoice line items. This approach allows clients to clearly understand what they are paying for each service. Unlike some competitors who charge a percentage of payroll, TriNet's fees do not fluctuate with salary increases, bonuses, or supplemental income, which helps with cost predictability.

Key pricing features of TriNet include:

- Flat PEPM fee for admin costs.
- Payroll taxes are charged only up to wage base limits; employer pays FICA on net wages after deductions (e.g., Section 125), unlike competitors who charge on gross wages.
- Transparent invoicing with line-item details for all charges.
- TriNet clients retain Section 125 tax savings, whereas some competitors retain these savings as part of their fees.

Who is TriNet pricing best suited for?

TriNet's pricing is best suited for small businesses with 10 to 150 employees that lack dedicated HR staff and need a full-service PEO covering payroll, multi-state compliance, and competitive benefits. G2 reviewers from industries including IT, financial services, nonprofits, medical practices, and professional services consistently report the highest satisfaction, particularly solo HR administrators managing remote, multi-state teams. Mid-market companies up to several hundred employees also appear frequently among satisfied G2 reviewers, especially those prioritizing benefits competitiveness for talent recruitment. TriNet's pricing becomes harder to justify, per G2 reviews, for companies that use only a fraction of its features or that have grown large enough to build internal HR capacity.

What are the key differences between the free and paid versions of TriNet?

TriNet offers no free tier or free trial. According to G2's pricing data for TriNet, all access is through custom enterprise quotes with no publicly listed standard tiers. Every organization pays for the full PEO service bundle covering payroll, benefits administration, compliance, and HR support. G2 reviewers note that certain modules, including time and attendance, expense management, applicant tracking, and 1099 contractor administration, function as add-ons with separate fees. Reviewers also flag a per-payroll-cycle platform fee and charges for off-cycle payroll runs. TriNet's pricing structure means buyers should request itemized quotes to understand total cost before committing, as several G2 users report unexpected fee increases post-onboarding.

Is TriNet considered good value for its pricing?

TriNet's value perception is mixed but leans positive among small businesses. G2 reviewers consistently highlight that TriNet's group purchasing power delivers Fortune-500-level health, dental, vision, and 401k benefits at rates small companies could never negotiate independently, often offsetting the administrative fees. High-rating reviewers in construction, IT, financial services, and nonprofits confirm meaningful cost savings versus managing benefits independently. However, G2 reviews of TriNet frequently cite steep per-employee fees, opaque add-on charges, platform fees, and steep year-over-year increases as pain points. Reviewers mention Gusto, Rippling, Justworks, and ADP as lower-cost alternatives. The consensus: strong value for benefits-focused small businesses, weaker ROI for companies needing minimal HR support.

"Effortless Payroll with Stellar Support"

5/5

What do you like best about TriNet?

I like how easy it is to navigate the TriNet website, which makes accessing and managing information straightforward and efficient. The customer service support stands out as being very good, providing prompt and helpful assistance whenever I need it. This level of support ensures that any issues or questions I encounter are addressed quickly and effectively. Additionally, I found the initial setup process of TriNet to be very easy, which facilitated a smooth transition and allowed me to start using the service without any significant hurdles. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about TriNet?

I find some of the reporting options problematic. Specifically, cost center reports can only be set up for one pay period at a time, which is inconvenient. I would prefer the flexibility to manage reports across multiple pay periods. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is TriNet solving and how is that benefiting you?

I use TriNet for payroll processing, eliminating the need for multiple providers, and find it easy to navigate with excellent customer service support. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Slow, Buggy UI and Confusing Redirects Undermine the Experience"

0.5/5

What do you like best about TriNet?

It was easy to get started, and I was able to log in quickly. However, I ran into quite a few UI/UX bugs: some words showed up as random letters and numbers, and certain screens took a very long time to load—often displaying only a white screen. There also wasn’t any loading animation or other indicator to show that it was actually working in the background. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about TriNet?

The slow performance and redirects to different pages, there doesn't seem to be great coherency with the app. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is TriNet solving and how is that benefiting you?

TriNet is my employer’s payroll, training, and benefits manager, and it’s the only product I use for my job for those purposes. I’ve used Rippling and Workday in the past, and I do think TriNet is a bit easier to navigate overall. I am using it now to onboard as a new hire. I am not, however, aware of he cost for this service so cannot speak to return on investment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
