## Gusto Reviews
  ### 1. Best-in-Class Value: Easy Setup, Strong Integrations, and Smooth HR Workflows

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ryan R. | Senior Director of Talent and Culture, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

The platform is incredibly easy for anyone to be able to stand up in a day or two at most with little knowledge.

The pricing is super competitive for smaller teams and startup environments. Making it some of the best value in this space.

It has strong integration capability with many other platforms organizations might use like microsoft, g suite, training, and background checks.

Expense reimbursements, time off, performance reviews, and reporting are easy to work in and you can do periodic pulse surveying as well.

Best in class platform for the cost and size

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Not being able to integrate contractors into the expense reimbursement space is a small miss as it would make it easier as you are paying your employees to use a similar structure for contractors.

Getting a broker integrated into the platform can have some occasional headaches, but having benefits done manually is also easy.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has automated so many tasks under one platform that we used to use multiple solutions for in the past. The performance and service is generally on the upper end for the same or similar platforms and they continue to iterate improvements over the past several years.

  ### 2. Intuitive, All-in-One Portal That Makes Weekly Payroll a Breeze

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Katie T. | Founder, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

It's UX is SO intuitive and easy. Easy to navigate all necessary information via one convenient online portal. Just very simple and intuitive is probably the number one thing I've loved about working in Gusto ALL of these years. I also appreciate that it integrates with other platforms, such as When I Work, which makes time tracking and payroll a breeze. I've not personally utilized the performance metric capabilities, but it's great that it's an option.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Transitioning between health insurance providers is clunky. Yes, Gusto handles the process, but there are frequently delays and occasionally missed premium calculations or withdrawals. Gusto also doesn't do a great job of ensuring accurate information is provided to remotely-distributed teams about what health plans cover which states. Also, Gusto is one of the more expensive platforms if you wrap up all the services in one. RIght now, it's cheaper for us to use a separate time tracking tool, because although Gusto has the capability to track time, for the number of employees we have, it's very expensive.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto is solving paperwork, payroll, benefits, and tax filing. All of those solve BIG problems for us.

  ### 3. Gusto Is a One-Stop Shop for Payroll, Taxes, and HR Paperwork

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kevin O. | Practice Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 02, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

The design and interface are solid, easy to navigate, and include all the features I need. Gusto brings together so many payroll and administrative tasks in one piece of software that it feels close to a one-stop shop. The best part might be that it automatically handles required tax reporting, new-hire forms, and other company documentation. Integration with Guideline for 401k functions is also extremely convenient. Lastly, whenever I have needed to contact Gusto support, they have always been pretty good about finding solutions and following up in a timely manner.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Honestly, there is nothing I actually dislike about Gusto.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto helps me save time, which is arguably the most important thing that any software could do.

  ### 4. Intuitive Payroll Solution with Minor Tax Optimization Challenges

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 09, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I appreciate Gusto's intuitive and easy-to-use UI interface, which makes it simple to navigate and easy to understand everything. I like that I don't have to search very far for information. Additionally, reimbursements and other transactions go out quickly and are communicated clearly, with very little bureaucracy involved. It was easy to get started and easy to keep going.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I think the taxes section on the app could be improved. I put my tax numbers in the optimizer and it said I could change things, but then it didn't clearly direct me to what I should change to fix to make it happen? So I'm not entirely sure what the next step to optimize my tax refund is.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Gusto to easily access my paychecks and sort through what taxes I have to pay as well as what percentage of my paycheck I'll be able to take home. It's easy to navigate, so I find information quickly. The setup seemed easy as an employee, reimbursements are fast, and communication is clear, reducing bureaucracy. The AI tax solution system was also really helpful to allow me to maximize my tax refunds.

  ### 5. One Platform That Keeps Everything Organized

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Luxury Goods & Jewelry | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 10, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

What I Like About Gusto

Gusto has a clean, intuitive interface that’s easy to navigate, even for people without HR or payroll experience. Payroll feels straightforward and is largely automated, which makes payday much less stressful.

I also like the employee self-service portal, since employees can access pay stubs, tax documents, and their personal information without needing HR help. Onboarding is simple as well, with digital offer letters, e-signatures, and new-hire paperwork all handled in one place.

Time tracking and PTO management are integrated, so it’s easy to manage employee hours and time off. Benefits administration is built into the platform too, which helps payroll, health insurance, and other benefits work together smoothly.

Automatic tax calculations and filings help reduce errors and save a lot of time, and the reminders and notifications are genuinely helpful for staying on top of important deadlines. The reporting tools provide useful payroll and employee insights without requiring a complicated setup.

Finally, it integrates well with popular accounting, time-tracking, and other business software. Customer support is responsive, and the Help Center has clear, easy-to-follow resources. Overall, the platform feels modern and thoughtfully designed, with features that simplify running a small business rather than adding unnecessary complexity.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

What I Dislike About Gusto

Payroll corrections after a payroll run has been processed can feel more cumbersome than I expected. The reporting works well enough for most businesses, but it doesn’t offer some of the advanced customization you get with larger HR platforms. Certain HR and benefits features are locked behind higher-tier plans, which can become expensive as a company grows.

Integrations with some third-party software also occasionally require manual syncing or extra troubleshooting. There’s limited flexibility for businesses with highly complex payroll or compliance requirements, and customer support can sometimes have longer response times during peak payroll periods.

A few workflows require clicking through multiple screens instead of allowing quick edits from a single page, and overall the customization options for reports and workflows could be stronger. While the mobile experience is solid for employees, administrators have fewer management capabilities on mobile compared to the desktop version. As businesses scale, some organizations may eventually outgrow Gusto and need more advanced, enterprise-level HR features.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto addresses the challenge of managing payroll, HR, benefits, and employee onboarding by bringing everything together in one easy-to-use platform. Rather than juggling multiple systems or spending hours on administrative work, businesses can automate payroll, file taxes, manage benefits, and onboard new employees all in one place.

From my perspective as a user, this saves me time, lowers the chance of manual errors, and gives me confidence that key tasks are handled accurately and on schedule. I also value the intuitive interface and the employee self-service tools, which make it simple for employees to access pay stubs, tax forms, and personal details without needing help from HR.

Overall, Gusto takes a lot of the administrative burden out of managing people, so businesses can spend more time growing their teams and supporting their customers instead of getting bogged down in paperwork.

  ### 6. Automated Tax Filing and Compliance Wins, but Onboarding and Support Can Be Slow

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 10, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

The automated tax filing is the single biggest win for us. It used to take our bookkeeper almost two full days each quarter to calculate, file, and reconcile state and federal withholdings across our three office locations. Now it runs automatically in the background and just flags anything that needs a human eye — we've gone from 16 hours of quarterly tax work down to about 45 minutes of review.
The multi-state compliance engine has also saved us more than once. When we hired our first remote employee in a state we'd never operated in, the software automatically flagged the new registration requirements and walked us through setup. Without that, we probably wouldn't have realized we needed to register until we got a penalty notice.
I also lean on the custom approval workflows constantly. Instead of payroll changes (raises, bonuses, new hires) sitting in an email thread waiting for three different sign-offs, everything routes automatically to the right manager and I get a notification the moment it's approved. That alone probably saves me 3-4 hours a week that used to go into chasing people down.

We're on the mid-tier plan, which runs us a base fee plus a per-employee monthly cost — all told, it comes out to a little more than what we paid for our old system. But when I actually sat down and did the math, the ROI was obvious within the first quarter. Between the bookkeeper hours saved on tax filing (roughly $2,000/quarter in labor cost alone), the reduction in manual HR admin, and — this is the big one — avoiding even a single multi-state compliance penalty, it paid for itself almost immediately. We haven't had a late filing or compliance fee since switching, and previously that was costing us real money at least once a year.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I want to start by saying Gusto isn't a bad product — it's clearly well-built, and I can see why so many small businesses love it. But after a year and a half of using it, I've landed somewhere between "it's fine" and "I wish it did a few things differently," and I think that's worth being honest about.
The onboarding took longer than expected
Setup wasn't hard exactly, but it was slower than I'd hoped. We're a nonprofit with a mix of full-time staff, part-time hourly workers, and a couple of contractors, and getting all of those employment types configured correctly took several back-and-forth sessions with support. Nothing was broken, it just required more hand-holding than the marketing materials led me to expect. I'd budgeted about a week for migration; it ended up being closer to three.
Customer support is inconsistent
This is probably my biggest gripe, and I say it gently because I know support teams are hard to get right. Sometimes I get a rep who clearly knows the platform inside and out and solves my issue in ten minutes. Other times I've submitted a ticket about a tax notice we received and waited two or three days for a reply, which is stressful when the notice has a deadline attached. There doesn't seem to be a reliable way to know which experience I'll get.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Problem: Manual payroll tax calculation and filing
Before Gusto, our bookkeeper had to manually calculate, file, and reconcile federal and state withholdings every quarter. That process ate up nearly two full days each time and left room for costly errors. Gusto now automates this end-to-end, freeing up roughly 15 hours of skilled labor per quarter and removing the anxiety of missing a filing deadline.

Problem: Multi-state compliance complexity
As we’ve hired remote employees in different states, staying on top of each state’s registration and tax requirements became a real risk. Gusto proactively flags what we need to do when we hire in a new state, which has helped us avoid unknowingly falling out of compliance—something that previously could have led to penalties we didn’t see coming.

Problem: Slow, email-based approval chains
Payroll changes like raises or new hires used to get buried in scattered email threads while we waited on multiple sign-offs. Gusto’s approval workflows automatically route requests to the right person, cutting down the time I spend chasing approvals by several hours each week.

Problem: HR team fielding repetitive employee requests
We used to receive constant emails asking for pay stubs or help updating direct deposit and tax withholding information. With the self-service portal, employees can handle these tasks themselves, which has significantly reduced interruptions throughout our HR team’s day.

  ### 7. Efficient Payroll Tool with Room for Better Support

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Robert C. | Operations manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 25, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I love how Gusto consolidates everything by keeping all our documents in one place, making it easy for me and my employees to retrieve important documents like W-2s and pay stubs. The user interface is amazing and very easy to navigate through, which makes managing taxes and adjusting settings straightforward. I also appreciate how Gusto helps with payroll and tracks sick days and vacations automatically, taking over tasks that would otherwise require dedicated staff. It's also great that employees can have insight into their own paychecks and financial details through Gusto, with everything integrated seamlessly including a Gusto debit card and account funds management. This integration bridge makes it more in-depth and user-connected.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

The only thing I could say that could be improved was that we were trying to get the health insurance attached to Gusto, and we ran into problems with it. And, obviously, we have a time period where you have to apply for health insurance. So when we tried to contact support, it was the support that was kind of lacking where they, like, they were saying were gonna get back to us, and it was getting dragged out. It would have been nice that there would have been, like, a faster response. We ended up having to contact the health insurance outside of Gusto. And had to set it up this year independently because Gusto wasn't reacting enough, and we didn't wanna get, like, penalized for not having health insurance. So it was that was a little bit, an inconvenience.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Gusto to manage payroll, track time off, and store documents like W-2s and pay stubs. It's great for keeping everything consolidated and easily accessible for me and my employees. The user interface is amazing, making navigation and personal adjustments simple.

  ### 8. Gusto Makes Payroll Quick, Painless, and Reliable

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 09, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I've been using Gusto for 5 years to run payroll for my bookkeeping business, and the user experience is genuinely one of the best I've come across in this space. It's intuitive and easy to navigate, so running payroll each cycle is quick and painless. Honestly, there's nothing about it I'd want to change.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Honestly, after 5 years of use it's hard for me to point to anything significant I dislike. If I had to nitpick, it would just be that occasional new features take a little time to get used to, but that's minor compared to how reliable and easy the platform is overall.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a bookkeeper, I use Gusto to run payroll for my business and to support clients who need reliable, accurate payroll processing. It handles tax filings and direct deposits smoothly, which saves me from having to manage those pieces manually, and gives me confidence that payroll is being run correctly every cycle.

  ### 9. Easy Setup, Great Tax Tools, and Smooth All-Day Performance

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Medical Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 09, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I love the features, especially the tax tool, because it’s really helpful for organizing everything later when tax season comes around. I also appreciate how easy it is to navigate throughout the day when I’m calculating my hours. I also appreciate how I am able to incorpaorate the pay or expenses from other purchases here. I loved the premium account which I had for a short time. I've connect this with my everlance app which worked great to track mileage easier. The apps performance is great as I have always had time to access it without disconnecting. Setting up was easy and luckily very straightforward. The AI in the app is not something I know much about yet, but I am sure it would be great.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I do not like that I need to have a minimum of $500 for the premium as this is not my main bank account.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Tax tools are extremely helpful

  ### 10. Feature-Rich HR Tool That Keeps Onboarding, Time Off, and Celebrations Organized

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Cosmetics | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 09, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I like that it had capabilities other platforms I have used do not. I am able to have on and off boarding checklists to stay organized, manually adjust time off balances, and it even has an upcoming celebrations notification.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I dislike that admin and employee profiles can not be merged. I also feel like the chat box is rarely able to solve any issues that may be occurring but setting up a call with a support member is not always convenient especially if the issue is time sensitive.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto is solving the problem of having two separate platforms for a 401k program and payroll program. Guideline being integrated into the Gusto platform is creating a smooth and seamless experience for our employees to take full advantage of the benefits offered to them. By also having flexible ways to create time off policies we are able to adjust and create a time off policy that works best for our team.

  ### 11. Gusto Makes Onboarding and Payroll Effortless

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brenna E. | Preschool Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I love that Gusto makes onboarding employees very simple. I fill out their email, and they receive the hiring paperwork. I also like that payroll is very easy, whether they are hourly or salaried employees

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

The only downside is I wish it could be integrated into the platform we use to track employee hours. Right now I have to manually enter the hours, and it would be nice if it could be tracked by the employees signing in themselves etc.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto is solving how we onboard employees, pay taxes as a company, and run payroll every other week. I love that it also sends everyone their W2's automatically, even if the employee is no longer with us. It takes care of a a lot of things that i would have done manually otherwise!

  ### 12. What better way to get help than the Gusto way.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tatiyanna . | registered behavorial tech, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 01, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I like that everything is made simple and easy to navigate. Any questions I may have are answered directly on the first page. It's one of the most simple systems I've used thus far. When I wanted to know how how to change my personal information or how to add new direct deposit, the drop down menu on the left hand side shows me exactly how to do so.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

There's not much to dislike yet. I haven't had any hiccups with the platform at this time.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto is helping me to understand how to track my performance and goals. Before using the platform, I would just have conversations about my goals and what needed to align with them. Now, I can utilize Gusto to maintain those goals and work towards them.

  ### 13. Effortless Remote Work Management with Gusto

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** esther c. | Client Services Specialist, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 17, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I like how simple it is to navigate Gusto. Everything I need is labeled simply and easy to find, without unnecessary clutter to confuse me. It also gives me the ability to work remotely by clocking in and out and tracking my time and paychecks all in one spot. Compared to other sites I've used as an employee, Gusto is always working well, easy to navigate, and useful. The initial setup was super easy, with not too many questions or confusing ones.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

There is nothing about Gusto that I dislike

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Gusto to work remotely, clocking in and out and tracking time and paychecks in one spot. It's simple to navigate; everything is clearly labeled, making it easy and useful without confusion.

  ### 14. User Friendly

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Julie A. | Chief Administrative Officer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 25, 2023

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I love the ability to develop goals and conduct performance reviews. It is a great way to track progress and promote professional growth and development.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

If the goal tracking was more dynamic and gave staff and supervisors the ability to update it regularly and the supervisor be sent an email or some sort of notification that it has been met. RIght now you can enter the goal but there are no clickable boxes to show progression over time. It's just kind of a place to enter it but then that's it. You can make updates to it but it's not alerting anyone and I have noticed that the staff isn't regularly keeping up with it because it has some improvement to be a valued tool for growth.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Payroll taxes

  ### 15. Clean, Simple Layout That Makes Payroll, Time Checking, and Benefits Management Easy

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 06, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I like the layout of the website. It's very clean, simple, and easy to navigate. It displays information clearly, while other time systems can be chaotic to look at. The simple things are some of the best features. Like the little pig when you first open the mobile app having sunscreen on. Makes the start of the work day feel better.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Gusto can be quite buggy. When trying to clock in or out, it glitches. This requires me to go tell my manager to edit my time, since my company doesn't allow us to modify the hours ourselves. It does waste our time a bit. I understand these are more connection issues, and not against the actual app or website, so I cannot think about possible improvements.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto is very helpful for support. It great if you are having issues and need help. The onboarding was also very straightforward and easy to add me as an employee.

  ### 16. Streamlines Compliance with Ease

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mag A.

**Reviewed Date:** July 06, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I like how easy Gusto is to use. It has both an app and a website, so I can do everything I need to whether I'm reviewing hours, adding employees, doing background checks, or any kind of related task. Gusto either has the feature or a partner service to help with those needs. Additionally, Gusto was extremely helpful in aiding our small business to sign up for unemployment insurance and other necessary accounts, providing the contact information and websites to make that process smooth.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

One of the only things I'd say Gusto could improve is making sure I can see everything on the app that I can see online. There are just some features with employee time-off requests and seeing how much time they have, like their paid time balance, which are a little bit easier to find and navigate online versus in the app. There are some slight limits to what the app can do compared to the website.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto helps me stay compliant by guiding me through signing up with relevant government accounts and ensuring correct tax payments. It simplifies employee management tasks, has a user-friendly platform with an app, and assisted me greatly as a small business setting up unemployment insurance.

  ### 17. Gusto has been our payroll provider since 2019!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Greg K. | Creator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 28, 2023

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I run two very small companies—just two employees each. Businesses our size typically struggle to offer competitive benefits, but Gusto has made it possible. This year, we added a 401(k) plan, and every employee is participating. The setup was seamless thanks to Gusto's integrated partners.

Gusto also took the headache out of managing workers' compensation, again through its partner network. Best of all, it's surprisingly affordable.

I'm a huge fan of Gusto and highly recommend it to any small business owner.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I can't think of anything that Gusto needs to improve.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto takes care of all my payroll needs. I would never attempt to stay on top of all the reporting requirements associated with payroll, but Gusto does all of that for me and they've never let me down.

  ### 18. All-in-One HR Features That Keep Everything in One App

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Robby R. | Co-Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 29, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

It offers a lot of features that help keep everything in one app, including timesheets, personnel files, e-sign, and onboarding.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Customer support is lacking. The AI responses often address the wrong issue, and when I’ve connected with multiple people, I’ve received incorrect guidance on how to fix problems or conflicting explanations about the source of an issue. I also find the inflexibility around setting pay periods odd—for example, you can set weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly, but not every four weeks.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto takes a comprehensive view of the entire payroll and HR process and has built an app that helps with both the small details and the big picture. By contrast, something like QB Desktop Payroll can have glitches and flaws that leave room for payroll to be processed incompletely or inaccurately.

  ### 19. Clear Pay Tracking and Time-Off Visibility in an Easy-to-Use Website

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Milky K. | Teacher, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 20, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I like that you are able to see how much you've made to date, when your next check is coming and often times how much the check will be. I also like how easily accessible the website is in terms of usability and understanding how it work. I use the time off feature a lot to know how much time off I have paid and unpaid.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

It's not that helpful in terms of being able to message anyone from the job or my manager, that would be a good addition to have so you can reach out and request time off directly with a message to your manager.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto is helpful in seeing employee costs and how to manage the money being paid and made. It is helpful that it calculates all the time off for employees which leads to less emails with questions and save space in my inbox.

  ### 20. Gusto Makes Payroll Effortless with Automatic Deposits, Tax Filings, and Helpful Reports

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David S. | Vice President of Global Sales, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 20, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Payroll has taken at least a half day of my week and I have always second guessed myself as well. Gusto simply does payroll. With Gusto direct deposits are automatic, tax filings are automatic and employee records are kept within Gusto. Additionally the reporting through Gusto is very helpful as I am able to generate reports of time-off balances or payroll summary reports without knowing how to write code or anything else.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I found the process of setting up some of the additional benefits options to be more confusing than they needed to be. It seemed like I had to search around to find things that were much more obvious. I would say that the mobile app works okay, however it seems to freeze occasionally and will randomly log me out while I am working on something and it's frustrating when you are trying to approve something and get logged out.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My biggest headache was doing payroll in Excel and hoping I did everything right so that I wouldn't screw up anyone's taxes. Gusto eliminated that headache. They do payroll automatically and file the taxes for me. All of our employees' information is stored in one location and they can look at their own pay stubs and time off without sending me emails every five minutes and honestly that last point alone made it worthwhile.

  ### 21. Easy, Affordable Payroll Anywhere with Gusto—and Helpful Customer Service

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Beth F. | Clinical Director, Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 20, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Gusto has been a super easy, affordable way for me too complete payroll activities for my one part time employee. I've also had great experiences with their customer service team on the several occasions that I've reached out. They helped me to set up multiple pay options for this employee and have answered questions about how to integrate with Next Insurance. I can also run payroll easily from anywhere using the Gusto app. I've already recommended to one colleague, who signed up, and I appreciated the referral bonus from Gusto for spreading the word!

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I really have no complaints. The only thing I think I've found confusing at some points has been the reporting features, but honestly, I think this has more to do with my frequency of use rather than system features. In general, I find it to be very intuitive and user friendly.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has helped to have Gusto prepare tax documents, which is huge timesaver for me, even with only one employee.

  ### 22. Gusto Makes Time Tracking Easy with a Clear Pay Period and PTO View

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** B M. | Team Lead, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 29, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

It is very easy to navigate, I have been really happy with the system. I love how I can see my whole pay period and the total of hours worked on one page and I don't have to switch around. I also love how Gusto now shows your PTO/Holiday time off on the same pay period/time tracking page

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I have no dislikes about Gusto, it's quick and easy to use

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It tracks my hours, pay, PTO... it's easy to navigate. Getting my hours and days off submitted is so fast and easy, saving me so much time... it also calculates everything for me, I don't have to worry about issues formatting in Excel or wait for anyone to tell me how much PTO I still have, it's all in Gusto

  ### 23. Streamlined Payroll with Effortless Setup

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cam E. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 03, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I find Gusto incredibly helpful for my small business payroll services. It pretty much streamlines the entire process, solving the headache of manual payroll. What I really like is the onboarding process, which allows me to input employee information so they can self-onboard, while Gusto handles the documents, offer letters, and necessary filings. It takes a lot off my plate as an employer, letting me focus on more important tasks. The ability to send offer letters and get signatures directly within Gusto is a plus, providing a one-stop-shop for employees to access and sign documents. It's great to have team documents stored within the payroll system where all their information is. Setting up Gusto was incredibly easy for me, taking just an hour or two to get up and running smoothly. I also integrate it with Quickbooks which has been a game changer.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Nothing! Its awesome!

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Gusto for payroll services. It solves the headache of manual payroll, streamlining the process. I love the onboarding feature where employees can self-onboard and handle documents easily. It takes a lot off my plate, allowing me to focus on important tasks.

  ### 24. Simplifies Payroll with Seamless Integration

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Eric B. | Corporate Development Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 02, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I really appreciate how Gusto simplifies the payroll process for my business, especially handling complex aspects like compliance, state and tax issues, which takes a huge load off my plate as a small business owner. It makes the whole process really easy, which is great because I have a lot of other things to do. I also like how Gusto seamlessly syncs with my accounting software, QuickBooks, through the bank feed, making it very convenient. The initial setup was great and seamless, I just plugged in employee information and was all set.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Some of the reporting could be maybe a little better. It's all in there, but sometimes I wish it was a little simpler to pull numbers out that I want from Gusto.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto simplifies payroll, handling compliance and taxes, making it easy. It lifts the burden from me, freeing up my time for other tasks as a small business owner.

  ### 25. Successful implementation for our growing remote service team

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Roxana O. | Payroll compliance officer, Security and Investigations, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 02, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

The multi-state payroll module for automated tax filing is capable of managing complexities in an exact manner. This is the direct link between time tracking and monthly salary disbursement calculations which I appreciate. When changes in local laws and regulations happen, compliance updates are delivered to the dashboard as soon as they are made. The entire fiscal year benefits administration is flawlessly synchronized with employee pay cycles throughout the year.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Generating reports becomes very slow when trying to get deep data in a quarterly format. During an important tax audit, access to key tax documents is limited by the mobile application. International contractors have a consistent and vague response when it comes to complicated payroll adjustments.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In our end of month payroll cycle, we took out manual calculation errors in our firm. Centralized document storage enables HR to get tax forms in seconds. Automated state filings eliminate missed deadlines and possible penalties from local regulatory agencies.

  ### 26. Fast, Easy Payroll with Great Tax Filing and Helpful Chat Support

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vallarie W. | Executive HR Administrator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 17, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I like that Gusto automatically files the W-2s and 1099s, along with the quarterly tax forms. Another big upside is their chat program: I’ve received very helpful, detailed advice through chat when I needed support. Gusto also tracks benefits, and some benefits can be obtained through Gusto as well. The time tracking system is visually easy to use and payroll takes me about five minutes to submit. I like that Gusto tracks the onboarding tasks when a new person is added; also that if backpay is owed to a past employee, I can go under "Dismissed" people and still perform this action. The pricing is easy to understand and very reasonable.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

When I go to perform dismissal payroll, even if I have approved the hours in time tracking, it does not seem to bring that information over. Yet there is a way to go into Reports and locate a time tracking report to get that information.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto’s high performance saves me hours that I would have otherwise spent using other tools we’ve used.

  ### 27. Budgeting Made Easy with Multiple Savings Accounts and Clear Monthly Spending Breakdowns

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alexandra I. | Lice Technician, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 17, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I like that I can create multiple savings accounts in my account so I can have one for Electric bill, Rent, groceries, etc. It makes budgeting super easy and efficient, especially for my ADHD brain. I also love how it gives me a breakdown each month of what categories I'm spending in and how much as well. It's nice having my payroll info super accessible and all of ,y bank stuff in the same app. I absolutely love it.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I wish I could add more savings goals/accounts and not have to talk to support to close one out. Sometimes things come out of attached accounts and I can't lock access to it because it doesn't work like a card. So being able to refresh an account numbers or even just remove it on my own would be lovely if I could do that.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I don't have to have multiple banking apps for everything i need since Gusto is my payroll, my savings and bank app all rolled into one. And when I do move money into my Chime, it doesn't take away my Chime plus because Gusto is a payroll thing so it always sees moving moving from gusto as payroll money which is amazing.

  ### 28. Simple, Clean UI That Makes Payroll and Compliance Easy

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Manufacturing | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 02, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I appreciate the user interface. It's very simple, allows me to easily run payroll and review employee expenses. I like the simplicity of it. Payroll compliance otherwise would be a huge headache, and it's nice to see a clean and refined UI.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I do not love the reporting features. I think there should be more specific suggestions for reports. For example, when I run payroll I get the print checks pop up. However, when generating reports afterwards, it is very difficult to find where those checks are. I wish there was a feature that retained all checks in a very easily accesible, idiot-proof way. Similarly, I want the payroll overview that you download from the payroll screen to be easily accesible. I don't want to have to mess around with filters, as that makes it more difficult.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto is our payroll solution, and we also use it for time tracking. Previously we used a different provider, Panacea, that was much less user friendly and made a lot less sense. I really liked my rep there, but the fact that I needed one all the time was a detractor. Since gusto is so simple, running payroll takes way less time, and since it's pretty idiot-proof, I feel comfortable delegating to other administrators. This saves a lot of my time as an owner because I'm not worried about something getting messed up. And even if something is messed up, I can fix it with running an extra correction payroll, which is fantastic. For time tracking, we had issues in the past with employees lying about time reporting, but with kiosks and clocking in remotely I feel much more comfortable.

  ### 29. Effortless Payroll Automation for Small Firms

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Addison P. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 02, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I am very pleased with Gusto's transition from manual payroll processes to an efficient and intuitive system. As an attorney without much experience in taxes or payroll, Gusto made everything really easy with step-by-step instructions right there through the software. I appreciate how it even prompts necessary actions like adding employee workers compensation insurance. Gusto simplifies payroll on-boarding and the process of getting W-4s and NC-4s set up, making it automated, which is great because the price is very reasonable for the services offered. The automated payroll is a big deal for us, saving time and money. I also like that I have my own account to access pay stubs and anything I might need as an employee, especially during tax time. The initial setup was incredibly easy, and even without prior experience, I found it straightforward.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Honestly, I haven't found any aspect that I disliked.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto makes payroll efficient and intuitive, automating processes like onboarding new employees and handling W-4s. It's even prompted work insurance needs. The automated payroll saves time and money, plus having access to my account for pay stubs is great, especially during tax time.

  ### 30. Eases Payroll Management with Anytime Access

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mykalah D. | Receptionist, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 16, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I mainly use Gusto to log in, track my hours, track my pay, and access my benefits. Gusto makes it easier for me to track my hours instead of manually doing it myself. I like that Gusto allows me to get an estimate of my paycheck before payday, which helps me plan ahead for paying bills. I'm able to access it at any time of the day, which is so convenient, as I don't have to wait till the next business day to ask my HR department questions that can be answered through the app. The initial setup was smooth and easy to navigate, making it simple to create an account and access all of my details. Overall, everything about it—from tracking hours to accessing benefits—is straightforward and efficient.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I think the only thing that can be improved is that sometimes the Gusto server is down and I have to re-login. When the server is down, I’m not able to login from any device to clock in or clock out, which means I have to put in a time correction through my employer, which can be a pain in the butt sometimes.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto makes it easier to track my hours automatically, saving me the hassle of doing it manually. I appreciate its 24/7 accessibility for checking pay estimates and planning bill payments, avoiding the need to contact HR during business hours.

  ### 31. A Useful Tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Yemi O. | Senior Tax Advisor, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 30, 2025

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I love the smoothness with which I can make updates.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I'd love it if they stopped pushing the Gusto Spending Account. I'd also love it if I could input time off requests directly from the window where I make edits to my time tracking. It's annoying to have to go back and forth to match up time tracking with hours off.

Also, it would be great if Gusto calculated time off in decimals within the platform. If I clock out at 2:17pm, and I'm off through 4:30pm, I'd love to be able to have the platform calculate that, rather than needing to leave the platform and go to another window to calculate it.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto provides an all-in-one solution to view paystubs, request PTO, and update HR functions.

**Official Response from Chelsea B:**

> Hello Yemi,

Thank you for your review! We're glad to hear you're finding Gusto easy to use and helpful for managing your HR needs all in one place. We understand that two-factor authentication can feel like a hassle at times, and we appreciate you sharing that feedback.

  ### 32. Effortless Payroll Management with Gusto

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Darin K. | Sales Account Executive, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 01, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I like the fact that you can look back at the pay period and quickly make adjustments. I like how easy it is to use. And I just think it is so simple compared to other platforms that I have experienced. Since I'm new to Gusto, I was able to go back in and make an adjustment for the time that was already accounted for, for example. It also allows me to go back and edit things that don't look right that maybe I had forgotten during the week to take care of. Incredibly simple. I also love how I get reminders on my phone about reviewing my hours for a pay period. One other nice feature is the message that it is payday. The fun graphics make an otherwise dull topic a livelier one!

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

It seems like on the unpaid breaks, it's tough to make adjustments after the fact. If you make an error, if you forget to clock out or conversely clock back in, it seems like that paid time off piece is a little bit more cumbersome. But maybe I don't understand it like I should.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Gusto to manage payroll and track my hours accurately, making on-the-fly adjustments. It's easy to look back at pay periods and edit any missed entries, ensuring my employer has accurate hours.

  ### 33. Effortless Payroll with Exceptional Support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kimberly B. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 01, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I am extremely pleased with Gusto because it handles all of my payroll, direct deposit, payroll taxes, and time clock. I love that payroll taxes are being handled and that making new hire paperwork is easy. The time clock is great, especially with using an iPod with the app. The site is laid out in a clear and intuitive manner. I also appreciate the support; when I made a mistake, someone immediately answered the phone to help me, even late at night. Gusto's integration with Xero makes tax filing much easier. The initial setup was easy too.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I had a few questions at first as this was my first time using payroll like this.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto handles my payroll, direct deposit, and payroll taxes efficiently. It's intuitive, making new hire paperwork easy. I use it with an iPod for the time clock, which is great, and it integrates with Xero for easier tax filing.

  ### 34. Seamless POS Integration and Effortless Payroll with Gusto

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Restaurants | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 16, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I really appreciate how well they handled the onboarding process for my employees as we opened our fixed location and grew our staff. I also appreciate how simple the process is for me to upload hours and tip information directly from my POS system. The integration between the two systems is seamless. I have used other payroll software and spent way too much of my time entering in detailed information that Gusto does for me and for the price it is totally worth it. I also appreciate how intuitive the interface feels. It seems to know what I need to do before I do it and has simple options for selecting the items I need to make sure I have completed. We are a small business and I am busy with so many other I don't always have the time to do some of the tedious tasks that Gusto handles for me, filing all of my tax documents, withholding the appropriate amounts from their checks, even keeping me updated as to exactly when and how much they will pull from my business account to cover payrolls is a great feature.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I honestly haven't found any downsides. I mean I am only a couple of months in so maybe I just haven't found the one thing that may frustrate me in the future, but so far so good.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Payroll. This is a time consuming item for every small business owner. Knowing that they are going to file all of my tax forms and pay the correct amount each pay period, and each quarter just gives me so much peace of mind.

  ### 35. Beautiful App, Great Customer Services, Simple start-up....

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** S. G. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 18, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

The platform looks really nice and it is easy to follow. If you just do what it says, you will find it easier. Also, the customer service reps have been super helpful when I have called.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I think I dislike that my payroll options feel limited. I pay staff a rate for each session held. What I need is an option to 'split'. For example, if a staff meets with someone for 60 mins, that is $150, the split should be 60/40. I am not able to pay this way but it would be best for me.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's helping me not have to deal directly with the red tape of starting a business and ensuring I cam compliant. This comes with a price but it is helpful for me to be able to start.

  ### 36. Effortless Payroll and Time Tracking with Minor Glitches

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Carter L. | Project Coordinator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 15, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I like Gusto's user-friendly interface; it's very simple to get where you need without any difficulty. I also value the time tracking feature because it truly captures how much time people spend per project. Gusto makes job cost accounting possible for us as a company with multiple ongoing projects, allowing us to accurately track real costs and forecast for future work. The initial setup of Gusto was very easy.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Sometimes if I'm entering a shift on the website in time tracking it will delete itself before I can finish it, so I have to start over. It seems like a technical glitch, so I'm not sure how to improve it exactly, but it causes time entry to take more time. Not the worst thing in the world but an inefficiency nonetheless.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto makes job cost accounting possible, allowing us to accurately track real costs and forecast for future work. Time tracking helps capture how much time people spend per project.

  ### 37. Easy Clock-Ins and Flexible Time Editing for Contractors

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jose O. | Contractor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 07, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Ease of use is the most important thing for me. I am able to clock in easily, edit hours if mistakes are made, and I do appreciate being able to leave a comment to reflect any changes or concerns. I am a contractor that occasionally and inconsistently does data entry for the law firm, and gusto makes it easy to be flexible.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I wish there was an area where it described when I can expect payouts to be, and I was able to send the hours to be paid, that way hours would not be missed.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Since I am a part-time contractor, it makes it easy to clock in and out and work hours when needed. I appreciate that there is an app I can use as well, making it easy to clock in from wherever I am working.

  ### 38. User-Friendly, Deep Analytics, and Excellent Performance — Highly Recommended

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 30, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

It is very user-friendly. The analytics, which let you deep-dive into the whole team or a single person, are useful. Onboarding is fairly easy to navigate. Its overall performance is excellent, and I would definitely recommend it to others running a business. I honestly haven't used the AI much, I tried it only once a few months ago and it didn't really work, but maybe it has improved since then.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I really wish it would let me copy multiple shifts at once and paste them into a specific day. I also wish there were a comment box when approving timesheets, rather than relying only on the journal. I think that would help when backtracking callouts, recording reasons, and verifying whether SOPs were followed.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I really don't have an answer for that. I've used other apps, but this one is the best I've personally used so far. For this job, I hadn't used anything else but Gusto.

  ### 39. Simplifies HR and Payroll for Smaller Teams

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Neil C. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 30, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I use Gusto for payroll management and benefits elections, and it brought all our day to day HR work under one system. What I like most is that the employee portal is easy to use and employees don't need assistance answering questions. That allows our HR team to stay efficient and not have to spend time answering questions, so they can support employees rather than answering basic ones. For example, employees are able to track the amount of PTO by themselves. Compared to Rippling, which we switched from, Gusto felt simpler and easier to navigate for a smaller team. The initial setup was fairly simple thanks to the support of the Gusto team.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

{"Reporting could be more sophisticated. I'd like to create custom dashboards for different managers."}

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto brought all our day to day HR work under one system. The employee portal is easy to use, so employees don't need assistance and can track their PTO themselves. This keeps our HR team efficient, letting them support employees rather than answer basic questions.

  ### 40. Quick, Easy Payroll with Hassle-Free Tax Compliance

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** barb c. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 30, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I use Gusto for payroll and I really enjoy it. What I like most is that it's quick and easy. Running payroll only takes me less than an hour every two weeks. There are reminders on the screen that tell me they are being compliant with the state and local taxes, so I never have to worry about that. It takes care of my taxes, including state, local, and federal, and gives me reminders of things that need to be sent in.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

{"I think the onboarding could be a little less cumbersome.","Less steps.","I have to do some onboarding, then it has to go back to them, and they have to onboard — just the number of steps.","People basically would just want to be paid. They just need to get their banking information in there. But, really, it's not all that convoluted."}

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Gusto for payroll. It takes care of taxes, payroll issues, and reminders for things that need to be sent in for state, local, and federal taxes. Running payroll only takes me less than an hour every two weeks, and the on-screen reminders keep me compliant, so I never have to worry.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Natali B. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 30, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I like how Gusto makes doing something that you would think is hard very simple, simplified, and user friendly. Even the website layout is super easy to navigate. Running payroll is something that stood out for me, just putting in the numbers, the hourly rates, and the hours clocked in is super helpful, and it's super easy with tracking in Gusto. The initial setup was very simple too.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

{"I would say navigating the menus is kind of hard. It's a lot of, like, dropdowns that you have to press, and sometimes I don't know what to press.","I don't know what to press. I feel like if there was just a simple way for me to find reports or specific items it would help.","Every month when we close off the month I need to know payroll for the employees. Sometimes I don't know where to find those reports, or I have found them but I don't know if I'm finding the accurate ones for what I'm looking for."}

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Gusto for payroll. It makes something you'd think is hard very simple and user friendly, and the website is super easy to navigate. Running the numbers, hourly rates, and hours clocked in is super helpful and easy to track.

  ### 42. Chat and FAQ Features That Make Getting Answers Effortless

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Elizabeth W. | Director of Operations, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 25, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

The chat and FAQ features have been a lifesaver. Anytime I can’t figure something out, the answer is right there at my fingertips. They’ve been a huge support for me as I started navigating this new system after leaving a company after 21 years.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I don’t always receive notifications in my email; however, I’ve worked around this by logging into my dashboard each day to check which tasks might need to be completed.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It’s very user-friendly and makes it easy to organize the items that need to be completed. The system also helps me catch missing items that I might have overlooked on my own, which is reassuring and gives me extra peace of mind.

  ### 43. A Perfect Fit for Small Business HR Needs

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** George D. | Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I have been using Gusto for about three years across different employers, and I've grown to appreciate its comprehensive integration capabilities. Gusto seamlessly consolidates various crucial functions like benefits, expenses, and HR information, all in one place. This integration significantly reduces the time we would otherwise spend searching through disparate systems or managing multiple PDFs and links for our vendors. This centralization has proven invaluable, especially since our organization lacks dedicated HR systems. Additionally, I've been impressed with the simplicity of Gusto's setup process; my entire company was able to become operational within a month, which speaks volumes about the user-friendliness of the platform. On a personal note, I also appreciate how Gusto aligns with our small business needs, allowing us to manage everything efficiently without the need for complex systems. This efficiency is further highlighted by my willingness to score it a 9 out of 10 in terms of recommending it to colleagues or friends.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

The people management features in Gusto could be improved, particularly in the areas of goal setting and calendar integration. This is important because my management prefers using Google Suite, and improving these aspects in Gusto could help keep users on the platform, especially for tasks like meeting setting.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Gusto to centralize my HR needs, streamlining everything from benefits to expenses, so I don't waste time tracking multiple systems, enhancing organizational efficiency.

  ### 44. Effortless Access to Pay and Tax Documents

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kacey M. | Account Executive / Business Development, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 30, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I use Gusto for payroll services, and as the end user it makes it easy to get paid. I like that it's easy to use, and there's an app version so I can access it on my computer or on the go. It tells me when I'm going to get paid, and all the info is easy to find. I use it to access tax documents or paystubs, which are all easily accessible in there, and I check in on when I'll be getting paid on a monthly basis. I've really never run into any issues — I think it's very well put together. The initial setup was very easy.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

We've probably been using it for about a year or so now and i've never had any issues

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As the end user, Gusto makes it easy to get paid. I use it to access tax documents and paystubs, which are all easily accessible in there, and to check when I'll be getting paid, which I do on a monthly basis.

  ### 45. Solved Multi-State Compliance, Fast USDC Payouts

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

What I like most about Gusto is the USDC stablecoin payment option for international contractors that launched in March 2026. That's the feature that made the biggest difference for one specific part of our team. Same-day international contractor payment is available via Wise account and USDC stablecoin, replacing the prior three to five business day transfer window. Two of our contractors are based in countries where bank transfers took several days, and conversion fees were eating into what they received. After switching to the stablecoin option, those payments arrive the same day at the agreed amount, without conversion fees taking effect. Both contractors specifically mentioned the change in our next check-in, and the improvement to the working relationship from something as basic as faster, more predictable payment was genuinely noticeable. It has become our preferred payment method because it gets the contractor payment done fast and easily within a day. Around ten contractors now receive payment via the USDC option, and seven of them accept it as the default payment method. It also simplified bookkeeping. Gusto handles the calculation and filing automatically, which solved the state registration chaos we had before. When someone joined from a state we hadn't hired in before, the list of things to do before their first payroll, unemployment insurance registration, workers' compensation requirements, new hire reporting to the state, and tax account setup, was longer than anyone on a small team could figure out correctly. The platform can be implemented in less than a week, and the interactive demo lets you test the software before signing up without requiring long-term contracts. That matched our experience exactly, being able to run through the demo before committing meant there were no surprises during the actual setup. The only thing that took some time was getting our bank account verified before the first payroll run, which needed a few extra days. I also integrate it with Asana and BambooHR.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

{"The MOSI acquisition addresses that problem in principle, but the integrated business compliance product has not fully launched yet as of mid 2026.","Running on a timeline where the most anticipated features are still incoming means we are paying for something we cannot fully use yet.","I want a clearer product road map with committed launch dates rather than a general timeline so customers can plan around what is available now versus what is coming.","Getting our bank account verified before the first payroll run required a few extra days. I needed to start verification earlier."}

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto solved the state registration chaos we had when hiring across new states, handling unemployment insurance, new hire reporting, and tax setup with automatic calculations and filings. The USDC stablecoin option pays our international contractors same-day at the agreed amount without conversion fees, and it simplified bookkeeping.

  ### 46. Unified Payroll for Hybrid Teams, Limited Weekend Support

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

What I like most is the tax accuracy commitment. If they make an error that causes a tax penalty, they cover the cost. That commitment matters more than it sounds because it shifts the financial risk of filing mistakes away from our business and onto their platform. We haven't had a penalty since switching, and knowing that backstop exists has changed how much time our team spends double checking tax filings. Before Gusto, our operation lead would manually review state filings every quarter out of anxiety, and she stopped doing that within six months of switching because the platform had proven itself reliable enough that the audit step felt unnecessary. The integration set is also what really stood out. With the 150 plus third party connections, payroll data flows cleanly into our accounting, time tracking, and expense tools without anyone manually moving files between systems. The QuickBooks synchronization changed reconciling payroll with accounting entirely, payroll entries flow directly into the right accounts automatically after every run, and our bookkeeper confirmed the month end close process dropped by roughly two hours once the integration was configured. It's not a dramatic number, but across a full year it adds up, and it removed a manual step that was occasionally introducing errors. I also like having all three worker types, salaried staff, hourly employees, and rotating contractors, handled in the same place with the same login instead of managing separate systems for each category. For setup, most businesses complete payroll review and submission in under five minutes once configured, and the digital onboarding lets new hires complete their own I-9, W-4, direct deposit setup, and company documents through a personalized invitation link. Our first payroll run took under a week, and contractor onboarding was even faster. We connect it with QuickBooks and Asana.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

{"A contractor payment failed to process correctly before a project date.","We did not get a resolution the same day.","Support hours are Monday to Friday, 8AM to PM eastern time only.","That means anything that goes wrong on Friday afternoon sits unresolved over the weekend until Monday.","The one-step flow flagging is the account verification which needs to happen before the first run can process, and that verification window can delay the first payroll run."}

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Gusto to run payroll and benefits for hybrid teams, salaried, hourly, and contractors, all in one place. The QuickBooks sync flows payroll entries into the right accounts automatically, cutting our month-end close by roughly two hours and removing manual steps that introduced errors.

  ### 47. Decent for Payroll, Frustrating Account Features

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Adele T. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 15, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I like that I can use it to clock in and out from work, and I can see how much my pay stubs were. Probably the best thing is I can optimize my paychecks and decide how much they're taking in taxes from each check. It does my payroll process, and the initial setup was easy.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I don't like Gusto. Clocky giving out. I was using the spending account, but I hate the spending account. The spending account *****. The fact that, like, I can't enter my bank account information and then view it to make sure it's correct, *****. It just does my payroll process thing. That's the only thing that it solves for me. I'm not. Two.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It just does my payroll process, that's the only thing it solves for me. I like that I can clock in and out from work and see my pay stubs. Probably the best thing is I can optimize my paychecks and decide how much they take in taxes from each check.

  ### 48. Absolutely Best Payroll Software and Company Available!!!!!!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Donna D. | General Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 02, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Ease of use the top thing I like best but a close second is Gusto customer service and support. Payroll taxes especially are not my forte and I have all the trust in the world that Gusto will do them correctly and on time. They are ALWAYS very professional, fast and knowledgeable. I have said many times, Gusto is my favorite company and software to deal with.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I would say the only downside is the slightly higher price but the service rendered is completely worth it.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They tell me exactly what I need to do payroll correctly and even walk me through any tasks I may not be familiar with how to complete. If I have further questions, their support is very very helpful and fast.

  ### 49. Great tax compliance features for multi state businesses

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Adi E. | Talent acquisition partner, Construction, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 29, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

The federal and state tax calculation engine that is automated calculates employee deductions with absolute precision. After entering hourly tracking logs from the built-in time clocks, payroll runs are completed in seconds. Self service onboarding portal gives new employees the ability to upload tax documents on their own prior to their official start date.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

When the contractor payment processing module is used, the direct deposit to the contractor is significantly delayed from the normal full time employee payment process. Having to allocate payroll into several regional tax jurisdictions needlessly puts the strain on customer care agents. The general ledger export feature is not very helpful in reporting arrays to external enterprise accounting software platforms.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We used to have to manually go through all the hours every month for our distributed workforce management team to make the multi state unemployment tax contributions. This platform can deal with local compliance legislations immediately at every biweekly payment interval. We eliminated costs of accounting overhead and also stayed clear of fines from regional authorities for not abiding by the rules.

  ### 50. Gusto Makes Payroll Tasks Fast and Easy Across Devices

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michelle C. | Resource Coordinator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 02, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I love that both of my employers use Gusto. It lets me manage all of my payroll tasks in one app that’s very easy to use. I can enter my hours quickly, and Gusto also reminds me how much time I have left to make any changes.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I don’t really have a downside to mention. Gusto is very easy to log in and out of on different devices, which makes this task simple and hassle-free.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Recently, my employer didn’t pay me the correct amount. I was able to go into the Expenses section of the app and enter the correct amount, and we were able to rectify the problem very easily.
