I have used ADP and Paychex and they are so unnecessarily complex, and this is coming from someone who has a payroll and HR background. Gusto is so easy that even a small business owner with no previous experience processing payroll could handle it. The layout is very user friendly. The software basically walks you through everything step-by-step. I can run payroll in a flash. And onboarding is also super fast. It sends the new employee a welcome message and reminders about documents they need for their I-9 and notifies other staff that a new employee is coming on board. It reminds you about birthdays and anniversaries for staff as well. And you cannot beat Gusto's price. I highly recommend. **What do you dislike about Gusto?** Honestly, nothing is really bad about it. Tracking paychecks is one wonderful perk, but the best part is the savings goals feature. With the paycheck tracker, I know ahead of time what to expect from my upcoming paycheck, and it's nice to see the amount I'm receiving without having to check my bank account. The savings goals feature is one of the best I've come across in an employee app. It's incredibly easy to set up a savings goal that not only takes money out directly from my paycheck but also accrues interest. The ability to name goals and create multiple savings goals is an incredible feature. Additionally, the initial setup was extremely simple, and I was signed up and an employee via Gusto before my company even added me to their internal systems. **What do you dislike about Gusto?** There should be an 'other' option available when requesting time off for situations that do not fall into a specific category. Both the app and the website are easy to use and navigate, and clocking in and out is simple. I also like the payday tracking feature because it lets me see when my paycheck is coming and the amount. The company calendar is helpful for PTO since I can see when other staff members will be out, and the overall process for requesting PTO is easy and straightforward. In addition, my workplace uses the expense feature. As a teacher, I buy items for my classroom and then submit them for reimbursement, and the process is easy to use. I also like having all of my past reimbursements in one place for reference, which is very helpful. **What do you dislike about Gusto?** So far, I haven’t found any specific downsides. **What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?** Before using Gusto, our company tracked staff PTO in Google Calendar, which ended up cluttering and overloading everyone’s calendars. It’s much more helpful to have PTO in a separate place that we can reference whenever needed. Previously, my HR person tracked reimbursements and kept that information only for herself, so I had to separately create my own log of the reimbursements I submitted. Price wise, I think that it is an economic option for many companies that are getting started. **What do you dislike about Gusto?** Unfortunately, we needed to move to a bigger provider that allowed better PEO Healthcare plans for our employees. With Gusto we were stuck with UnitedHealthcare and many employees were having issues with it. Also the support team also are genuinely good people who respond fast and follow through. When i had questions taking over payroll duties, someone was there. **What do you dislike about Gusto?** Reporting is the weak spot and as I need one clean report but instead i’m downloading two or three reports and combining them in excel which is annoying when clearly all of the data exists in there somewhere. The LMS side is bare and doesn’t even show the right answer if someone fails a question which is a weird thing to leave out. **What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?** Processing payroll manually took time that i did not have. Gusto has taken care of it all. Onboarding new hires go through a paperless process and i no longer have to hold their hands throughout the entire process and also mployee records and time tracking are integrated together so if a new hire starts or a previous hire leaves; nothing will fall through the cracks. ### 17. The initial setup of Gusto was pretty easy, which made transitioning to using it smooth and efficient. **What do you dislike about Gusto?** The appeal process in Gusto takes a long time and there is little follow-up provided. Additionally, reaching out to support via email does not yield timely responses. **What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use Gusto to get reimbursed for health expenses and for dependent care expenses with helpful notifications that prompt action when information is needed. ### 44. It connects to QuickBooks and updates it accordingly, which is super convenient. I like that the UI is pretty nice and straightforward, even if I preferred the old UI slightly more. The ease of finding things I need, like W2s for the end of the year and past payroll, is great. Processing payroll is so simple that I don't even audit the numbers anymore because they're always on point. Payroll being accurate means I don't have to spend time ensuring everyone is paid properly. Having documents like W2s readily available makes life easier at the end of the year. Gusto handles making them available for all employees, and there's even an option to mail them if necessary. **What do you dislike about Gusto?** Switching a contractor to an employee can be cumbersome. In the past, some folks had to create 2 accounts with 2 separate emails in order to treat both differently. A seamless transition would be nice (i.e. just entering start and end dates and go!). I think more guided prompts would be helpful, such as when a taxing jurisdiction is introduced or Gusto requires actions to be taken, some explanation as to why or a walkthrough would help. I have a couple of alerts, but I'm not sure if they are truly applicable or not to our business. **What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?** Gusto makes payroll super simple, connects to QuickBooks, and allows me to administer benefits with ease. Not only has Gusto been extremely easy to use (even in weird / unique situations), but the support is incredibly helpful. For instance, I had to issue W2-C's this year, and the support went above and beyond (providing the kind of direction and clarification you would have to pay for to get from a CPA) to get everything in order. **What do you dislike about Gusto?** I am yet to have an issue with Gusto in 10+ years using them, and that says something! **What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?** Gusto takes care of all of my payroll and related tax + legal filings, which can be a huge time suck otherwise. ### 47. I frequently forget to either login or log out and this allows me to post accurate hours for my company without the need to bother our human resources department. I love that I can go on any time and see my past hours worked, my past paycheck details, and my cumulative earnings. I love that there is a way to track paid time off, even though my company doesn't use this, if I were an employer I think this would be a great benefit to me. Gusto also has a great history of my time with my company. Sometimes when completing a variety of personal forms for various reasons, I need to know when my employment started. I can easily get that information from Gusto with a click of a button. Also, when my employer needs updated information about me it is so easy to jump into Gusto and quickly update the information online. Gusto takes me seconds in some cases and on a few minutes in others where it might take 30-60 minutes in other formats! I am forever grateful that my company uses Gusto, making my life as a employee so much easier. Everything moves so quickly on Gusto. Updates happen right away and I can click through multiple areas with ease if needed when completing payroll or forms. Our company has been with Gusto for several years. We made the move due to ease of use and cost effectiveness for a smaller company such as ours. **What do you dislike about Gusto?** One area I think could be improved is the employee profile. Right now, it only allows the employer to make updates; however, I believe it would be helpful—especially for smaller companies like the one I work for—to allow employees to update their own profiles as well. Onboarding as an employee was quite easy also. There were helpful guides along the way where I could clarify what I needed to do if I had any questions. **What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?** Prior to using Gusto it was quite difficult to change our working hours if we forgot to login or log out. Gusto allows employees to handle that completely on their own without having to involve the payroll/HR department and without lengthy delays in the process. ### 48. I've used plenty of other timekeeping and payment programs like UKG and Symplr, and Gusto's been the simplest to use (and seems to be pretty reliable on my employer's side as well). **What do you dislike about Gusto?** As an employee the only inconvenience I've had was in interacting with the browser login portal, which didn't seem to accept some of my punch-ins and outs. It seems that was an issue with the device itself though, so... so far, no complaints! **What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?** For me, it is solving the persistent headache of other timekeeping and paycheck programs. It's simple to integrate by bank accounts and be paid properly and promptly, it's easy to check both on my phone and my employer's devices, and it's been accurate. ### 50. I had like $400 saved up, and it really made a difference. This benefit feels like a win-win because it didn't cost us anything extra to offer it to our employees. Setting up Gusto was also pretty easy, which I liked, in fact I found it much easier to input and complete payroll than ADP, which we used previously. **What do you dislike about Gusto?** I can't speak to how Gusto handles more complex payroll situations or larger organizations. Our needs were fairly basic, so while it worked well for a small business, I'm unsure about its capability for handling more complex situations or a larger company. Also, to my knowledge, I still had to get the actual payroll spreadsheet completed myself before entering into gusto the final numbers. **What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?** I find Gusto easier to use than ADP, simplifying payroll administration. The Rainy Day feature is a plus, as it effortlessly helps save funds for unexpected needs.
