This will allow us to budget multiple locations under one entity wherever this is needed. **What do you dislike about Budgyt?** It might be interesting to allow various charts of accounts and fiscal years for different types of businesses. There are reasonable workarounds for these issues in Budgyt, but it isn't designed this way. **What problems is Budgyt solving and how is that benefiting you?** The problems we had before Budgyt: 1. Multiple versions of budget drafts - Budgyt provides a stable, centralized cloud location where the most updated version and even multiple scenarios can be curated clearly. 2. Tracking multiple contributor changes - Budgyt provides audit trails for seeing who changed what when, and optional approval settings for oversight as needed. 3. Coming from a more difficult, overly complicated budgeting platform - Budgyt is easy to use and has great training videos. This makes our company more scalable! 4. Needing an elegant payroll budgeting tool - Budgyt has a detailed payroll module that helps us to forecast employer cost of employees with excellence. **Official Response from James McCoy:** > Thank you Matt for the review. In response to the various chart of accounts issue. If a Category is to live in a different Group depending on Department then while doing the setup, the complexity of tracking user permissions, hierarchy roll up and many other things become very, very difficult to understand and maintain. We have found after onboarding over 1,000 companies it is better to have a universalized COA if you want to consolidate your finanicals across multiple different businesses. For instance, if Rent Expense is in COGS in one business but in Opex in another then all readers of the financials will be confused about rent in a consolidated roll up. It is better to make two different Rent categories with different codes and description to reduce confusion. ### 2. Now that's service! **What do you dislike about Budgyt?** I would like to be able to view data sheets from two different scenarios at the same time (on 2 different monitors) However as soon as you go to one, it wants to refresh to the other scenario. That may just be beyond their control, as a cloud based product. **What problems is Budgyt solving and how is that benefiting you?** No more massive spreadsheet with formulas that I couldn't trust other managers to use the file. Had to copy their input into my master file. Monthly forecasts were near impossible before. It's pretty easy to sync data from QuickBooks or other accounting software into Budgyt after expenses are in. I also like the ability to duplicate budgets that have been set. Since there's a lot of work that goes into setting budgets, being able to duplicate them and make some changes is useful. Data syncing is really important, and it's been helpful for program directors who may not be comfortable with QuickBooks. Budgyt provides a rolled-up view of how program income and expenses look like for the month, the year, and historically. It allows us to get granular in details while also encouraging a high-level perspective. **What do you dislike about Budgyt?** I think the sync from QuickBooks includes all the line item expenses, but the search of those line item expenses is not very user-friendly in Budgyt. There are a lot of single transactions, like food costs or program contractor costs, and our program directors have a hard time rolling that up into the types of different expenses that fall under each category. We pay a lot of attention to this in budgeting, but don't have a great way of extrapolating that in Budgyt. **What problems is Budgyt solving and how is that benefiting you?** Budgyt helps us with planning, budgeting, and forecasting, including projecting revenue and net income. Under manage category you can set each category to import memo, vendor/customer/location (dimension) or none or both. You’ll see that drop down choice when editing the category. It has made budgeting and forecasting much simpler for our small nonprofit organization. This intuitive interface has greatly streamlined what used to be a complex and cumbersome process in Excel, significantly enhancing our productivity. Although there have been significant updates to allow for automatic downloads directly from QuickBooks into Budgyt, it currently only supports automation with one company at a time. We are aiming to examine that in Q1 2026 as we now have a plan to address the multiple COA between entities and how to consolidate those using the QBO identity codes. See if you have three entities and they all have rent and they have the same COA code but QBO behind the scenes makes each of those Rent Categories a unique code and the challenge has been to know how to relate those to the one universal rent or in some cases that rent needs to be in a different roll up group. So coding for all the variations has been a challenge. ### 7. Budgeting is the most important part of the accounting cycle, in my mind. If there is not an understanding of how funds come in and go out (and a plan for tracking/managing those funds), how can an organization measure their performance and determine where they are going? Budgyt is a powerful tool that can help your organization with financial management. The implementation team is knowledgeable and helps you get off the ground. The support team is there for follow up questions. The features in Budgyt are easy to learn/use and can be customized to fit your organization's needs. The employee module and related HR formulas are great tools to help budget and forecast personnel costs. Speaking of forecasting, that is another one of my favorite features. Through creation of different scenarios, it's easy to view data under multiple assumptions. Budget does not break like an Excel workbook can break, and does not require extensive knowledge of advanced Excel functions in order to perform budgeting and forecasting tasks. I have the fortunate opportunity to work with Budgyt on an almost-daily basis and it's one of the reasons I love my job! We work exclusively with nonprofits and it's an affordable, feature-packed tool that helps our clients budget in a collaborative and transparent manner, with the end goal of Budgyt providing timely, accurate and useful information that helps drive decision-making. **What do you dislike about Budgyt?** Honestly, I can't point to anything specific that I dislike about Budgyt. I haven't come across a situation that isn't "workable" within Budgyt. **What problems is Budgyt solving and how is that benefiting you?** There are many ways that Budgyt helps solve problems. Here are two examples that come to mind. Scenario 1 - an organization's budget was completed primarily by the Executive Director. As the organization grew and changed, Budgyt was implemented so that multiple managers could be involved in the process. Upon implementing a collaborative budgeting process, there is more shared knowledge and accountability, as managers receive timely budget vs actual reports for their department and can make decisions with that information. Scenario 2 - an organization that relies heavily on Private and Federal Funding to cover its personnel costs uses the Employee Module in Budgyt to determine how salary and benefit costs will be allocated. They receive notice that a large private funder or the Federal Government will not be continuing their funding. Assumptions in the Employee Module can easily be adjusted and viewed against multiple revenue targets, so that the organization can make timely decisions. Budgyt is a tool that can keep pace with rapidly changing information. ### 10. Having different scenarios that I can view to compare is critical. **What do you dislike about Budgyt?** If you/your teams aren't super familiar with accounting practices, it could be confusing to use as a stakeholder. Additionally, I wish I could have two different views open at the same time. For example, if I'm trying to have my budget view open and make updates to my Actuals, I can't have the line items open on two different screens. This causes me to have to screenshot budget items to update on a different screen. Very intuitive and easy to use, with capabilities that allow users to get more detailed and complicated as needed. Allows us to enter data in detail (or summary) in a way that makes it incredibly accessible and easy to read for non-finance users, which is ultimately a huge time saver for our finance team. Everyone on the Budgyt team that I have spoken to or worked with from sales to support (including the CEO & founder who took one of my training/implementation calls) has been awesome. The training was great (the video academy might be my single favorite & most-used/recommended training feature in any program ever), onboarding and implementation were made super easy (as far as those things go), and ongoing support (on the rare occasions it's been needed; it's been mostly out-of-the-box questions/ideas that I've brought up post-go-live) is excellent & very personable - huge shout-out to "budgyt guru" Aileen who has been immensely helpful from day 0 to the present, anticipating our needs at times before we even did. **What do you dislike about Budgyt?** My only 'complaint' is that, while several additional features that have been implemented since we began using Budgyt (dashboards, cash flow, balance sheet) I am still anxiously awaiting the #1 item on my wishlist - live integration with Sage Intacct API to eliminate manual import of actual data. But I'm confident that when it arrives it will work correctly. **What problems is Budgyt solving and how is that benefiting you?** Limited/non-user-friendly access to financal data & clear, legible reports are now easily distributed/accessible to our non-finance team members, saving time for both finance & non-finance staff, and eliminating questions arising from lack of clarity/version control in distribution of financial info. The easy-to-use & understand format of Budgyt helps keep things consistent. And most notably, the processes of budgetting and forecasting have been completely revamped to work with the Budgyt platform (from old manual, Excel-based processes). ### 12. After one budget season went up in flames with a large Excel spreadsheet error, we needed something different. We reviewed the market for budgeting systems and fairly quickly selected Budgyt. Of key value to us was a seamless and quick interface with Quick Books Online, which Budgyt features. With our Budgyt implementation we can effectively ‘layer’ our budgeting process. In our case this allows for independent budgets based on geographical location that can then be consolidated for a full organization roll-up. Layers could also easily be product lines or large departments. The user interface for Budgyt is streamlined and easy to use, particularly for non-technically oriented employees. Timeframes and included roll-up layers can be easily selected or removed. During our implementation we had some key questions that were handled rapidly and clearly by the Budgyt implementation team, as well as a large and continually evolving online learning system. Selecting and implementing Budgyt has proven to be one of the best financial decisions our organization has ever made. **What do you dislike about Budgyt?** Not every module of Budgyt is likely to be needed for most implementations. We do not use the Employee module, which is handled in a separate HR system. There is also a learning curve to using Budgyt, mostly for the implementation team, but it is quite intuitive for basic system users. **What problems is Budgyt solving and how is that benefiting you?** Avoiding Excel spreadsheets, and allowing for flexibility in how to roll up our organization to a consolidated view. ### 13. Budgeting against those costs in Excel spreadsheets was a nightmare. Budgyt has made this so much easier and saved us a huge amount of time. We are also able to share department budgets to department heads and a high level overview of the whole budget very easily without sharing information they shouldn't see. **What do you dislike about Budgyt?** Nothing really. There are some idiosyncrasies around formulas and importing data, but once you understand them everything works well. You are able to build your platform as part of the start up with a budgyt representative. They record the trainings and you can go back to them each year when you start the budgeting process. The pre recorded videos in their library are super helpful and cover most scenarios everyone will need. **What do you dislike about Budgyt?** There is no interface with Microsoft Dynamics which we use for our GL. I'm sure this is something they are working on. So we just have to import our financials for forecast and budgeting. **What problems is Budgyt solving and how is that benefiting you?** Budgyt fixed the allocation methodology for the administrative allocation. This was a nightmare the first year since it was a manual process that had to be updated each time something was changed. Its automatic now. ### 16. I just wish there was more vidoes on how to tract indirect cost. Budget is preventing us from using a giant spreadhseet that has lot of mistake and good to storing data. I enjoy the ease of combining varying departments within an income statement, and isolating specific departments. I also enjoy the ease of combining multiple entities together into one report (an entity per column, for example). The consistency of the rows of data amongst an entity's report also enables me to copy/paste additional columns of data from other reports within Budgyt (very easily and readily creating my own version of a report not available in budgyt). Our organization also enjoys the ability to copy data from a previous period or scenario, into a new budgeting scenario for a prospective period. It's helpful to not have to start from sratch each year with descriptions and/or amounts. Customer support is prompt in replying to our questions when we are having issues, and their explanations are sufficient to enable us to understand the problem and prevent it on go-forwards. We use this program nearly every day, and it's greatly improved our efficiency and quality of reports we provide as financial accountants. **What do you dislike about Budgyt?** Our complaints are pretty limited! (1) The latest update hasn't allowed us to wholly remove %'s from one of the reports. It removes % of totals but not the % variances. It would be nice if there were 4 tiers of options instead. option 1. entirely remove % from reports option 2. only % of total showing option 3. only % of variances showing option 4. both % options from 2/3 above showing We are now removing information from reports exported to excel as the program doesn't have an option to remove the % option wholly/entirely. (2) We would love the option to copy 'phrasing only' from a scenario into a prospective new budgeting scenario.
