Billtrust Review – Overall Experience

We use Billtrust daily as part of our billing and accounts receivable process, and it’s become a core tool for our finance operations.

Ease of Use:

The platform is very user-friendly once you get used to it. The layout is clean, and most tasks like sending invoices or reconciling payments can be done in just a few clicks. It’s intuitive enough that even team members with limited tech backgrounds picked it up quickly.

Ease of Implementation:

Implementation was smoother than expected. The Billtrust onboarding team walked us through setup, integration, and data migration step by step. Like any enterprise system, there was a learning curve at first, but their guidance and documentation made the process manageable.

Customer Support:

Customer support has been consistently responsive and helpful. When we’ve run into small issues or needed configuration help, their support team has followed up promptly and resolved things quickly. It’s reassuring to have that level of backing.

Frequency of Use:

We’re in Billtrust every day — invoicing, tracking payments, and running reports. It’s become a “can’t-live-without” system for our AR department because it handles so many day-to-day workflows in one place.

Number of Features:

The platform covers just about everything we need: automated invoicing, online payments, cash application, reporting, and integration with our ERP. The analytics tools are especially useful for spotting trends in collections and cash flow.

Ease of Integration:

Integration with our ERP and accounting system went smoothly. The API connections and data mapping tools are well-documented, and once configured, everything syncs seamlessly. That’s made it easy to maintain accurate, real-time financial data without a lot of manual work.

What do you dislike about Billtrust?

What I dislike about Billtrust is mostly minor and tied to usability, not performance. The platform occasionally logs users out faster than expected, and some features—like report customization or document search—could be a little more intuitive. When new updates roll out, there’s sometimes a short learning curve for the team to adjust. What do you like best about Billtrust?

The ability to automatically email invoices, when we previously had to batch them together and email them manually is a huge time saver. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The only issue I have is we have customers with multiple ship to's, and if invoices need to go to different email addresses for each ship to, we need to add a new bill to for that customer. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Billtrust?

I really appreciate Billtrust for its ability to allow customers to either create an account or make a one-time payment. This feature significantly enhances the payment process because it makes it quick and straightforward for new customers to make payments without requiring them to have an existing account with our company. This convenience is highly valuable, particularly when dealing with new customers who may not yet be fully integrated into our system. Additionally, I find the initial setup of Billtrust to be relatively easy and user-friendly, which is crucial for efficient onboarding. It seamlessly connects with TCD, which our collections team uses, indicating strong compatibility with other tools. I dislike the requirement for needing an invoice number to create an account when a customer might not have an invoice yet. This can be problematic because if we do not have a customer in the system yet, they cannot create an account. What do you like best about Billtrust?

I truly appreciate the automation capabilities of Billtrust, which significantly streamline our processes. The automation not only prevents the need to manually trigger events but also autonomously handles tasks such as sending out statements and reminders to our smaller accounts. This feature alone has effectively reduced our workload, allowing us to focus on other critical areas of our business. The fact that these processes are now more hands-off means that I can recoup valuable time that was previously spent managing these tasks manually. Moreover, the user management system in Billtrust is noticeably better and friendlier compared to our previous vendor. What do you dislike about Billtrust?

I am frustrated with the lack of integration between Billtrust's email system and Microsoft Outlook. It would be much better if the email functionality was modeled to match Outlook, especially with features like the 'conversation' view to manage email threads more efficiently. The current setup, where each email in a thread appears individually rather than grouped, leads to confusion and requires extra steps to follow up on emails. This impacts my efficiency and makes communication more cumbersome. Additionally, the initial training provided through Billtrust was inadequate. Many lessons did not apply to my needs, and essential insights about day-to-day usage were missing, discovered only after weeks of use. Lastly, while Billtrust excels in handling smaller accounts with its automation features, it does not meet the needs of larger accounts in my portfolio effectively.
