What is Smartsheet, and what problem is it built to solve?

Smartsheet is an enterprise platform for dynamic work. It helps organizations align people and technology to manage and automate processes across departments and use cases.

What languages does Smartsheet support?

Smartsheet supports 8 languages: English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and others.

What company sizes and industries is Smartsheet the best fit for?

Smartsheet’s strongest fit appears across small, mid-market, and enterprise organizations, with positive use spanning several industries.
  • Small businesses: Teams with 50 or fewer employees, including substantial use in construction and consulting.
  • Mid-market: Organizations with 51–1,000 employees, with use across construction, healthcare, and financial services.
  • Enterprise: Organizations with more than 1,000 employees, including users in pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and information technology.

How long does it take to implement Smartsheet across a team?

Implementation timelines range from a day or less to several months, with one to three months the most common reported range.
Time to go live Relative frequency
1–3 months Most common
Less than 1 month, including same-day setup Also reported
3–6 months Also reported

What customer support options does Smartsheet provide, and how do users find the overall support experience?

Smartsheet support includes self-service resources, email/help desk, and chat. The experience varies: users find learning resources and help useful, while others describe slow responses or difficulty getting clear, effective assistance.

What is the experience like for teams switching to Smartsheet from another tool?

Switching to Smartsheet is often about bringing project work, updates, and collaboration into one shared system instead of relying on separate spreadsheets, email, or fragmented tools. Users describe moving from Excel and Microsoft project tools, Google-based tools, and other project or work-management platforms; they value better visibility, online collaboration, automation, and flexibility, though the transition can involve learning the platform and adapting existing data or workflows.

What tools and platforms does Smartsheet integrate with, and how do these integrations help users get more value from the product?

Smartsheet offers 102 integrations, helping teams connect project information with familiar collaboration, office, and reporting tools.
  • Office and file collaboration: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Box, and Google Workspace.
  • Project coordination: Jira, Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Teams.
  • Reporting and analytics: Power BI.
In daily use, these connections can keep project plans, team communications, and reporting closer together, reducing the need to move between tools or manually recreate updates.

What features or capabilities could make Smartsheet even more useful?

Smartsheet could be more useful with improvements to formula work, complex-sheet performance, and the flexibility of reports and dashboards.
  • Make formulas more capable and easier to build, particularly for teams accustomed to spreadsheet functions.
  • Improve speed and responsiveness when working with large sheets and linked data.
  • Add more control over dashboard visuals, charts, and report formatting.
  • Make advanced workflow setup and automation more flexible and straightforward.

How useful do Smartsheet users find its AI features in everyday use?

Smartsheet’s AI is useful for some routine tasks, but its value varies and the results may need review. Users describe using AI to help with formulas, summaries, and creating or organizing work; others find it basic, inconsistent, or not yet dependable for more complex tasks.

"Easy Automation and Dashboards, Though Formulas Can Lag"
5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

I like Smartsheet’s flexibility, multiple views, automation, and dashboards. The dashboards automatically bring information together across multiple sheets, which makes it quick and easy for me to present to the leadership team. The automation and dynamic dashboards also make my manual work easier. I use Smartsheet to manage deliveries, projects, and cross-functional collaboration, and I found the initial setup very easy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

I find advanced formulas clunky compared with Excel. Cross-sheet references require tedious manual range selections, and the lack of modern functions like XLOOKUP forces me to use complex nested logic. Navigating large, linked sheets can also cause noticeable lag. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"A Complete, Customizable Workflow Product that does Everything Needed."
5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

I like that everything is covered. There is a way to track and communicate the workflow, customize data to work for you, send it to reports that are updated at whatever interval I choose. I am working from a school district and expanding this out past our Information Systems Team to the rest of the district. 10 minutes into showing what it does and the product was sold to the rest of the team. One question was if it supported Excel. It does. I also use it for Google Sheets. It took time to set it up, but in the end it saved hundreds of hours. Instead of individually running reports for schools, I could pull the completed report and email it to them in one move. I know my data is up to date and accurate within the limits I have set. Now it does take a different way of thinking. It is more of a database system, in a spreadsheet view and that can be a challenge. Once the learning curve is crossed, and you are very supported through that process, it is much easier. The only performance issues I have had were my own because I didn't calculate the update times correctly. I have not used any AI/Intellegence feautres. I am trying to get a quote to increase licenses, but my contact information has changed. We did find the pricig to be very affordable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

I haven’t used the AI section yet, but it might have helped me get everything set up. The support person I worked with was experienced in business. I work for a school district, and I’m using it to pull together reports from multiple sources so I can save time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Smartsheet Empowers Fast, On-the-Fly Solutions Without IT Delays"
5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

The ease of use and the ability for me to create solutions on the fly. It empowers me to get work done without having to wait for a corporate IT team. It also enables innovation and thinking of ways to do work differently. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

It can be hard to get users internally to adopt. We use so many tools they find it burdensome to learn a new one. That isn't specific to Smartsheet per say, but there is a learning curve and often folks turn away before they start. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"All-in-One Project Tracking and Team Collaboration Made Easy"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

it helps organize and track projects, manage tasks, monitor timelines, and collaborate with team members in one place Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

Some features can take time to learn, and setting up complex reports, formulas, or workflows can sometimes be challenging. Additionally, managing large sheets with multiple dependencies can become a little cumbersome Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Keeps our team’s investment tracking in one shared place"
5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

Our team works from shared sheets for monthly client exits, portfolio allocations and our Rentguard policy register. Everyone works from the same live version, so we no longer email spreadsheets back and forth. I like being able to @mention colleagues on a specific row. It’s a quick way to flag a policy that needs updating before it expires, and the email alerts mean nothing gets missed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

Access requests can slow things down. When a new monthly sheet is created, I sometimes have to request edit access and wait for approval before I can start. The notification emails could also be more compact. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Turns Scattered Workflows Into a Clear, Trackable System"
4/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

What I like most about Smartsheet is how it can take messy, scattered work and turn it into a clear, trackable system, without forcing everyone to completely change how they already work. It still feels familiar, like a spreadsheet, but it functions more like a full project-management platform. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

Smartsheet can be frustrating at times because its spreadsheet-style layout gets cluttered quickly, and managing larger or more complex projects can start to feel clunky. Some of the more advanced features aren’t built in, so I often end up relying on additional configurations or add-ons to get it working the way I need. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Flexible, Fast, and Reliable—A Powerful All-in-One Project Workflow Tool"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

The flexibility to control an entire project in one space. To be able to control back end spreadsheet style workflow with intergrated forms that I can send to end users is brilliant. To be able to populate entirely spreadsheets from external data this easily is a dream and to then be able to easily present that date in different formats. Further being able to automate actions sets it apart from other spreadsheet style products I have previously used. The product so far has been fast and reliable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

The learning curve is steep, the university courses do help with this but figuring out all the things the program is capable of and how to best intergrate that into my work flow has taken a lot of time, largely due to just how much you can actually do with it. "Easy to Use - Quick Onboarding and Free User Accounts, Starting to Explore AI tools"
5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

It’s easy to use, able to quickly onboard a new user and I like that users can have free accounts. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

The way the security is set up, and how the ability to view data is configured. For example, if you give a user access only to a dashboard they can't see any of the data in the widgets unless you also give them access to all of the sheets. This leads to giving users access to more information then they really need. I've started to give access to all users at the workspace level bc it is faster. "Streamlines CRM and Project Management Seamlessly"
5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

I like that with Smartsheet, I can share specific data with specific users, which is very helpful. It's also very user-friendly and quite easy to learn, which I really appreciate. The community blog creates a lot of use cases and helps a lot. Keeping all my data in one place with different views for different users is extraordinary. Having all the HR data and automation in Smartsheet for tasks like HR training is great. The ease of invoicing and sharing schedules with clients and subcontractors via Smartsheet is also very beneficial. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

I would like to have a bit more flexibility on the editable side - meaning the colors we can use, the fonts, etc. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Smartsheet: Fast, Reliable, and Flexible Views for Organizing Data"
5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

We use it for our department calendar and for organizing massive amounts of data. It has been our go-to tool ever since I’ve been here, and it continues to be what we rely on day to day. Unlike other tools, Smartsheet has multiple views available for better organizing and categorization. We also have the ability to integrate data directly from our in-house publications into Smartsheet without a hitch with blazing fast performance and reliability. My team relies on Smartsheet because of its competitive pricing and excellent customer support if/when it's needed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

In the ever-changing world of technology, with AI seeming to “take over,” I feel like Smartsheet could implement more artificial intelligence features to improve organization. I’d also like to see brand-new integrations that could better support its diverse consumer base. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
