What is Smartsheet, and what problem is it built to solve?

Smartsheet is an enterprise platform for dynamic work. It helps organizations align people and technology to manage and automate processes across departments and use cases.

What languages does Smartsheet support?

Smartsheet supports 8 languages: English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and others.

What company sizes and industries is Smartsheet the best fit for?

Smartsheet’s strongest fit appears across small, mid-market, and enterprise organizations, with positive use spanning several industries.
  • Small businesses: Teams with 50 or fewer employees, including substantial use in construction and consulting.
  • Mid-market: Organizations with 51–1,000 employees, with use across construction, healthcare, and financial services.
  • Enterprise: Organizations with more than 1,000 employees, including users in pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and information technology.

How long does it take to implement Smartsheet across a team?

1–3 months Most common
Less than 1 month, including same-day setup Also reported

What customer support options does Smartsheet provide, and how do users find the overall support experience?

Smartsheet support includes self-service resources, email/help desk, and chat. The experience varies: users find learning resources and help useful, while others describe slow responses or difficulty getting clear, effective assistance.

What is the experience like for teams switching to Smartsheet from another tool?

Switching to Smartsheet is often about bringing project work, updates, and collaboration into one shared system instead of relying on separate spreadsheets, email, or fragmented tools. Users describe moving from Excel and Microsoft project tools, Google-based tools, and other project or work-management platforms; they value better visibility, online collaboration, automation, and flexibility, though the transition can involve learning the platform and adapting existing data or workflows.

What tools and platforms does Smartsheet integrate with, and how do these integrations help users get more value from the product?

Smartsheet offers 102 integrations, helping teams connect project information with familiar collaboration, office, and reporting tools.
  • Office and file collaboration: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Box, and Google Workspace.
  • Project coordination: Jira, Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Teams.
  • Reporting and analytics: Power BI.
In daily use, these connections can keep project plans, team communications, and reporting closer together, reducing the need to move between tools or manually recreate updates.

What features or capabilities could make Smartsheet even more useful?

Smartsheet could be more useful with improvements to formula work, complex-sheet performance, and the flexibility of reports and dashboards.
  • Make formulas more capable and easier to build, particularly for teams accustomed to spreadsheet functions.
  • Improve speed and responsiveness when working with large sheets and linked data.
  • Add more control over dashboard visuals, charts, and report formatting.
  • Make advanced workflow setup and automation more flexible and straightforward.

How useful do Smartsheet users find its AI features in everyday use?

Smartsheet’s AI is useful for some routine tasks, but its value varies and the results may need review. Users describe using AI to help with formulas, summaries, and creating or organizing work; others find it basic, inconsistent, or not yet dependable for more complex tasks.

"Smartsheet Benefits, Challenges, and Opportunities"
3.5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

Smartsheet is easy to use, highly flexible, and provides excellent visibility across projects. The automation, collaboration, and reporting features help reduce manual work and keep teams aligned on priorities and deadlines. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

Smartsheet can become complicated to manage at scale, particularly with large datasets, complex workflows, and multiple linked sheets. Some advanced features have a significant learning curve and require ongoing administration to maintain effectively. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Easy, Customizable Contract Tracking—With Board Mode Gaps"
5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

I love Smartsheet’s UI. It’s super easy to use and manage, and really delightful to look at. I like how customizable the cards are, so we can use the same prompts on every card and keep things consistent. When we mark a contract as “Fully Executed,” it moves to our fully executed Smartsheet, and I really enjoy that integration. The customization options feel endless and help us stay organized, see what’s coming down the pipeline, and keep all the information in one place. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

In Board mode, I’d like to hyperlink links without switching to the sheet. When I split my screen to take notes from email to the board and try to open a card, it gets all wonky and it’s hard to copy it over. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Powerful Collaboration"
3/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

Upsides are that the filtering is incredible for big clunky files. I feel like we rarely have any product issues or bugs when we have 5-10 people are using at one time. I like that you can easily link to other destinations in cells. It is also very helpful to be able to assign line items to people and be able to document our feedback in the chat and tag users so it goes to their email. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

Sometimes it can take a long time to load. Some of my sheets have to be saved after every change and does not refresh in real time for multiple users (may be a user error). Some times I get emails for line items that I am not assigned! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Easy-to-Adopt Automation That Scales - Not only Project Management tool"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

I find Smartsheet simple to use, and adoption is high, so it doesn’t take long to teach new employees. It’s also a powerful, scalable tool: I can use it for simple things like task management and keeping data in sheets, or for more sophisticated projects with lots of assets. I like being able to automate spreadsheet processes and set up workflows to collect data from colleagues. Smartsheet also helps automate project execution, support governance, and give us a single point of truth for project management. The initial setup was very easy and took us only two weeks. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

I’m not super satisfied with Smartsheet’s support team. When I have problems, it takes a long time to get them resolved, and I think Smartsheet should invest more in support. The business license is pretty cheap, but the enterprise license is expensive. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Granular Sharing and Dynamic Views Make Smartsheet Shine"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

What I like about using smartsheet is I can ask someone to update selected fields without giving access to the entire sheet and also the dynamic view feature which can expose only relevant records or fields without sharing the source sheet Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

the higher ongoing cost per user, most work requires an internet connection, Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Powerful Automations, but Mobile and Pricing Need Work"
3.5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

I like having everything in one place and digital, and being able to track progress on tasks and movements. I can access Smartsheet remotely whenever and wherever I need to, and it isn’t paper-based. The workflows and automations are the biggest feature for me because I get messages as soon as web forms are submitted, sent to the right people. It makes everything fluid and accessible, with the right levels of accountability within the team. Setup was really easy for me, and now the process works much more clearly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

The app is good to have on the go, but it isn’t as great as the web version and doesn’t have all the features I need. The change from paper forms to automation was a little slower and meant more emails for the team, though it works much more clearly now. With the change in cost and structure, Smartsheet is very expensive, and the charities and organizations we work with may not be able to afford it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Flexible Tool, But Needs Relational Database Features for Shared Contact Columns"
3.5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

The flexibility in how it can be used across various needs Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

I wish it functioned more like a relational data base. Where come columns in one worksheet can be related together (similar to microsoft access from years ago).

I wish there was an easier way to copy a column that contains contacts. within org. This is a common column in many of my worksheets across various projects. When a change to this type of column is needed, I can't easily just make the change in one worksheet then copy/paste into multiple others. Note: if this relational aspect described above existed, I could just have one worksheet with the list, point that list to all other sheets, then only have to change the one column in one sheet Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Streamlined Calendar View Makes Product Info Easy to Find"
4/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

I really like the calendar view, as it is an easy and streamlined way to look at all our products - both released and upcoming - to find our key information such as SKUs or quantity in warehouse. This saves me time when I need to find this information quickly, and I use it quite frequently. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

I find at times the interface can be a little "janky" or old fashioned - especially when I do not look at it in calendar view. I often have a hard time finding the information I need outside of calendar view. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Intuitive, Excel-Like Project Management—But Licensing Frustrates"
4/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

I use Smartsheet for everything. It helps me stay on task and keep track of things I can’t remember all in my head. I create dashboards and reminders, and use automation for project implementation and onboarding. I like how intuitive it is and how similar the actual sheet is to Excel. I also found the initial setup very easy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

I find Smartsheet’s licensing and seating confusing. People in the same company have different plans, and when I’m invited to someone’s sheet, I still have to pay to be on their plan, which doesn’t make sense to me. I’ve tried to address this several times, but they keep saying they’ll get back to me, and I still don’t have an answer. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Smartsheet Unifies Planning, Automation, and Executive Dashboards for Real-Time Visibility"
5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

What I like best about Smartsheet is its ability to bring project planning, execution, and reporting into a single platform. As a PMO and Program Leader, I regularly use automated workflows, dashboards, reports, and resource management to provide executives with real-time visibility into project health, risks, dependencies, and budget status.

One feature that has significantly improved my workflow is automated alerts and approval workflows. Instead of manually chasing status updates, Smartsheet automatically notifies stakeholders when actions are required, saving several hours each week and improving accountability across teams.

Another capability I rely on is executive dashboards. Rather than spending time building PowerPoint reports, I can provide leaders with live portfolio data that updates automatically, allowing faster decision-making.

An unexpected benefit has been the platform's flexibility. I've used Smartsheet not only for project management, but also for PMO governance, intake management, RAID logs, resource planning, and strategic portfolio tracking. It scales well from managing a single project to overseeing enterprise-wide transformation programs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

While Smartsheet is a powerful platform, one challenge is that it can become difficult to govern at scale. As organizations grow, it's easy for teams to create duplicate sheets, inconsistent reporting structures, and disconnected workflows without strong PMO standards.

I've also found that advanced portfolio management and cross-project dependency tracking can require significant configuration compared to purpose-built PPM tools. While Smartsheet is highly flexible, that flexibility sometimes means additional effort to build and maintain enterprise-level solutions.

Another area for improvement is executive reporting across large portfolios. Although dashboards are effective, creating highly customized analytics and forecasting often requires integrations with Power BI or other reporting tools to achieve deeper insights.

That said, these limitations are generally outweighed by the platform's ease of adoption, automation capabilities, and ability to quickly deliver value across project, program, and portfolio management functions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
