What is Smartsheet, and what problem is it built to solve?

Smartsheet is an enterprise platform for dynamic work. It helps organizations align people and technology to manage and automate processes across departments and use cases.

What languages does Smartsheet support?

Smartsheet supports 8 languages: English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and others.

What company sizes and industries is Smartsheet the best fit for?

Smartsheet’s strongest fit appears across small, mid-market, and enterprise organizations, with positive use spanning several industries.
  • Small businesses: Teams with 50 or fewer employees, including substantial use in construction and consulting.
  • Mid-market: Organizations with 51–1,000 employees, with use across construction, healthcare, and financial services.
  • Enterprise: Organizations with more than 1,000 employees, including users in pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and information technology.

How long does it take to implement Smartsheet across a team?

Implementation timelines range from a day or less to several months, with one to three months the most common reported range.
Time to go live Relative frequency
1–3 months Most common
Less than 1 month, including same-day setup Also reported
3–6 months Also reported

What customer support options does Smartsheet provide, and how do users find the overall support experience?

Smartsheet support includes self-service resources, email/help desk, and chat. The experience varies: users find learning resources and help useful, while others describe slow responses or difficulty getting clear, effective assistance.

What is the experience like for teams switching to Smartsheet from another tool?

Switching to Smartsheet is often about bringing project work, updates, and collaboration into one shared system instead of relying on separate spreadsheets, email, or fragmented tools. Users describe moving from Excel and Microsoft project tools, Google-based tools, and other project or work-management platforms; they value better visibility, online collaboration, automation, and flexibility, though the transition can involve learning the platform and adapting existing data or workflows.

What tools and platforms does Smartsheet integrate with, and how do these integrations help users get more value from the product?

Smartsheet offers 102 integrations, helping teams connect project information with familiar collaboration, office, and reporting tools.
  • Office and file collaboration: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Box, and Google Workspace.
  • Project coordination: Jira, Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Teams.
  • Reporting and analytics: Power BI.
In daily use, these connections can keep project plans, team communications, and reporting closer together, reducing the need to move between tools or manually recreate updates.

What features or capabilities could make Smartsheet even more useful?

Smartsheet could be more useful with improvements to formula work, complex-sheet performance, and the flexibility of reports and dashboards.
  • Make formulas more capable and easier to build, particularly for teams accustomed to spreadsheet functions.
  • Improve speed and responsiveness when working with large sheets and linked data.
  • Add more control over dashboard visuals, charts, and report formatting.
  • Make advanced workflow setup and automation more flexible and straightforward.

How useful do Smartsheet users find its AI features in everyday use?

Smartsheet’s AI is useful for some routine tasks, but its value varies and the results may need review. Users describe using AI to help with formulas, summaries, and creating or organizing work; others find it basic, inconsistent, or not yet dependable for more complex tasks.

"Intuitive, Flexible Project Management with Powerful Dashboards and Automation"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

What I like most about Smartsheet is its intuitive interface, flexibility, and ease of use. Its spreadsheet-style views, customizable dashboards, and reporting tools make it easy to manage projects, track progress, and collaborate with teams.

I particularly appreciate its integration capabilities, workflow automation, and overall performance. These features help reduce manual tasks, improve productivity, and connect different business processes. The onboarding resources also make it relatively easy for new users to get started.

From a business perspective, Smartsheet delivers good value by improving operational efficiency and saving time. Its AI and intelligent automation capabilities further enhance the experience by simplifying tasks, generating insights, and supporting better decision-making. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

One area I find challenging is that Smartsheet can become less intuitive when managing complex workflows, large datasets, or highly customized solutions. Some advanced features also have a learning curve, which can make onboarding and adoption more difficult for new users.

I also think there is room for improvement in performance when working with larger sheets, as well as in the flexibility of integrations and automation. Some configurations require additional effort or technical knowledge to achieve the desired results.

Pricing is another consideration, particularly for smaller teams that need access to advanced capabilities. I would also like to see more advanced AI features, smarter recommendations, and greater flexibility in customizing AI-powered workflows. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Smartsheet is a True Asset"
5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

The interface feels familiar, but it offers many more options to personalize your information and tailor a document that is both easy to use and provides meaningful data simultaneously. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

I have not found anything at this point that Smartsheet would not do. Any questions I had while building my sheets were promptly answered by the Smartsheet team. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Automated Workflows That Save Our University Time and Improve Tracking"
5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

The automated messaging and workflows are super important and save our university time when it comes to processes. The time stamps and tracking (cell history) are crucial for some larger programs we manage and to audit specific timelines. We are able to share sheets and workspaces easily and transition (i.e., succession plan) between teammates easily. Super helpful for coverage periods and high volume times we bring on temp folks to support. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

Sometimes it's hard to envision how to scaffold a workflow or specific sheet until you tinker and test it out. We've had some solid examples to draw on, which is helpful, but having university specific client examples instead of business or corporate would be most useful to us. "Flexible, Reliable Project Management with Strong Automation and Visibility"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

Smartsheet’s biggest strength is its flexible, spreadsheet-style interface combined with strong project and workflow management. It makes it easy to organize work, track progress, automate repetitive tasks, and collaborate across teams. The integrations with Microsoft 365 and other business tools are helpful, while dashboards and reports provide clear visibility. Performance is generally reliable, and the AI features can speed up routine tasks and summarize information. The onboarding process is straightforward, and the available support resources make it easier to get started and resolve questions when needed. Overall, Smartsheet offers good ROI for teams that need more structure and automation than a traditional spreadsheet. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

Smartsheet is powerful, but some advanced features can take time to learn, especially when setting up complex workflows, reports, and automations. The interface can feel a little overwhelming for new users, and larger sheets may require careful organization to stay easy to manage. Some integrations and advanced capabilities may also require higher-tier plans, which can affect the overall cost. AI features are useful, but their value can vary depending on the type of work. Support resources are helpful, although getting familiar with all the available options can take some time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Smartsheet Supercharges Project Management with AI Insights and Dashboards"
5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

Smartsheet is a powerful, versatile platform that helps teams manage projects, automate workflows, and analyze data efficiently. I especially appreciate the AI features, which provide useful insights and help maximize project outcomes. The ability to create cross-sheet references, use data shuttles, and build interactive dashboards makes it straightforward to track metrics and stay on top of progress in an easy and fast way. Seamless integrations with other business applications, along with an intuitive, user-friendly interface, make it easy to adopt and highly effective for collaboration and reporting. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

There are still some types of formulas that are widely used in Excel that don’t work in Smartsheet. It was also used broadly across my company, but after the subscription/licensing changes, my company decided to switch to a cheaper software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Flexible Project Management, Powerful Reporting—Clunky Formulas"
5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

I like that Smartsheet gives us a single source of truth and lets our team manage everything together. It’s flexible enough to scale as our business evolves, and I can share it with users across our organization. The simple fields in the normal view let us get creative with it. I also like how easy it is to set up reports, filter data that’s already there, and generate the reports we need without having to mine the data. The overall project management setup works well for us, and adding users and sharing information is easier. Setup was very easy because it’s comparable to Excel and easy enough to customize. I also find the ability to create complex formulas valuable, though creating them can be cumbersome. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

Creating complex formulas is kind of painful. I spend a lot of time modifying formulas that are off by a single character, which gets cumbersome. I’m sure there’s probably an AI assistant tool out there that can create formulas for me. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Smartsheet Makes Workflows Clearer, Faster, and Easier to Share"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

Smartsheet is easier to use and more visually intuitive than Excel. It’s also much simpler to share information, and the automatic reminders help keep work moving and improve overall workflow efficiency. Communication feels clearer, and it’s convenient that everything can be found in one place. The AI tool is excellent as well, providing extra support when I’m using the software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

It can be challenging to get colleagues and other project stakeholders to adopt the software. When other virtual platforms are already in use, adding Smartsheet can increase the overall workload and make day-to-day coordination feel heavier. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Powerful Enterprise Collaboration and Premium Apps That Streamline Project Delivery"
4/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

Smartsheet is predominately a collaborative work management tool that allows cross-collaboration. Best part of it is the Enterprise or AWM plans that really enable powerful work delivery with Premium Apps like Smartsheet control center that helps saving times (when handling over 50 projects a year minimum) or dynamic View for managing sharing data. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

the native AI features are not there yet and Smartsheet is not investing enough on them. Hard to quantify a return on investment with those AI features at the current stage and they will realistically take up to 36 months to be at the level of Monday.com or any other Saas product. They should invest on re-upskilling the Support Team or improve the Support experience as they client's reply do not get addressed within the first 7 or 14 days, as it takes usually at least 5-15 email exchanges to make them understanding the issue. Overall the UI/UX of smartsheet is good and improving but some Views like Table View need a lot of investment to cope the same performances of Grid View. the Integrations provided are really good but their AI MCP connectors are not capable enough compared with a native MCP built by any Smartsheet Partner. "Smartsheet’s Open-Ended Flexibility Makes Building Anything Possible"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

I like using Smartsheet because it’s open-ended enough that I can build almost anything with it, from simple setups to very complex ones. My favorite part, though, is the problem-solving I get to do while building—figuring out how to make the different pieces connect and how to bring data sources together in a way that works. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

I think the open-ended nature of it makes it harder to get people on board and comfortable building in Smartsheet, and I also struggle to document the systems I build in a way that’s clear for posterity. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Customizable Portfolio Workflows, but Dashboards Need Work"
4/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

I like that I can custom-build Smartsheet to suit our needs, while still rolling it out consistently and easily getting metrics for executives. I also value being able to link sheets, access data at a portfolio level, provide governance, and roll things out consistently as a template. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

I find it takes way too long to get Smartsheet to do what I want, and even with MCP connectors and Smart Assist, refining things takes too long. The AI for dashboards isn’t good, and dashboards of charts are useless without metrics, lists, and reports generated from the data without manual additions. The initial setup was not easy at all. It takes a bigger lift than it should for people on my team who aren’t developers to get things right, and there aren’t enough available materials. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
