What is Smartsheet, and what problem is it built to solve?

Smartsheet is an enterprise platform for dynamic work. It helps organizations align people and technology to manage and automate processes across departments and use cases.

What languages does Smartsheet support?

Smartsheet supports 8 languages: English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and others.

What company sizes and industries is Smartsheet the best fit for?

Smartsheet’s strongest fit appears across small, mid-market, and enterprise organizations, with positive use spanning several industries.
  • Small businesses: Teams with 50 or fewer employees, including substantial use in construction and consulting.
  • Mid-market: Organizations with 51–1,000 employees, with use across construction, healthcare, and financial services.
  • Enterprise: Organizations with more than 1,000 employees, including users in pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and information technology.

How long does it take to implement Smartsheet across a team?

Implementation timelines range from a day or less to several months, with one to three months the most common reported range.
Time to go live Relative frequency
1–3 months Most common
Less than 1 month, including same-day setup Also reported
3–6 months Also reported

What customer support options does Smartsheet provide, and how do users find the overall support experience?

Smartsheet support includes self-service resources, email/help desk, and chat. The experience varies: users find learning resources and help useful, while others describe slow responses or difficulty getting clear, effective assistance.

What is the experience like for teams switching to Smartsheet from another tool?

Switching to Smartsheet is often about bringing project work, updates, and collaboration into one shared system instead of relying on separate spreadsheets, email, or fragmented tools. Users describe moving from Excel and Microsoft project tools, Google-based tools, and other project or work-management platforms; they value better visibility, online collaboration, automation, and flexibility, though the transition can involve learning the platform and adapting existing data or workflows.

What tools and platforms does Smartsheet integrate with, and how do these integrations help users get more value from the product?

Smartsheet offers 102 integrations, helping teams connect project information with familiar collaboration, office, and reporting tools.
  • Office and file collaboration: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Box, and Google Workspace.
  • Project coordination: Jira, Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Teams.
  • Reporting and analytics: Power BI.
In daily use, these connections can keep project plans, team communications, and reporting closer together, reducing the need to move between tools or manually recreate updates.

What features or capabilities could make Smartsheet even more useful?

Smartsheet could be more useful with improvements to formula work, complex-sheet performance, and the flexibility of reports and dashboards.
  • Make formulas more capable and easier to build, particularly for teams accustomed to spreadsheet functions.
  • Improve speed and responsiveness when working with large sheets and linked data.
  • Add more control over dashboard visuals, charts, and report formatting.
  • Make advanced workflow setup and automation more flexible and straightforward.

How useful do Smartsheet users find its AI features in everyday use?

Smartsheet’s AI is useful for some routine tasks, but its value varies and the results may need review. Users describe using AI to help with formulas, summaries, and creating or organizing work; others find it basic, inconsistent, or not yet dependable for more complex tasks.

"Easy, Powerful Excel Upgrade—with Some Formula Friction"
5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

I find Smartsheet easy to use. I can quickly create a grid, run reports, and show higher-ups a dashboard. I use it to track projects, financial spend, appeals, and invoices, and I’m setting up automated approvals. I like the new table view and being able to link columns directly, so I don’t have to retype the same list of people and it saves time. Smartsheet is much quicker and more accessible than Excel—like Excel on super power—and the setup was extremely easy. I gave it a 10 and am already trying to get my brother to switch to it. What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

I sometimes have trouble getting formulas to work in the summary. When I tried to activate AI on a grid summary, it didn’t automatically pop up to help. We also aren’t currently able to keep level 1 data in Smartsheet. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Highly Customizable, but Clunky Navigation Takes Its Toll"
3/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

I use Smartsheet to help our organization stay on the same page about our advocacy priorities and stay coordinated. I like that we could customize it to serve our needs, and that its reporting and dashboards make it relatively easy to find what I’m looking for. I also like the high degree of customization when building a project. The integration with SharePoint is pretty seamless and seems to work really well, and the initial setup was pretty easy. The custom build team has been great. Druv has been a wonderful companion and colleague on the journey, is great to work with, and is really good at what he does. What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

I don't think the user interface is particularly good. When a work request comes through asking for approval, it's difficult to understand the context around it and move from the approval screen to the project screen. I have to click around more than I would like, even though we bought the most expensive version. Our organization also continues to struggle to adopt Smartsheet, and finding ways to make it useful within a client's business context would help. For a company like ours, it can feel like a square peg in a round hole, and it takes a fair amount of customization to make it work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Fast, Customizable, and Easy to Read—But Support Could Be Clearer"
3.5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

I love how everything is organized and easy to read. You can also customize it with any formats you want. It works very fast and typically doesn't cause any issues. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

We were having issues before and the support staff wasn't too helpful on what we needed done. I think they may have been confused. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Versatile, Cloud-Based Project Planning Made Easy in Smartsheet"
4/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

What I like best about Smartsheet is:

- the fact that it is cloud-based and easy to share with colleagues

- that we have a joined-up view on project planning and project updates

- the fact that it is very versatile and that you can customize SmartSheets however you need to fit the requirements of your project Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

I feel that the look of Smartsheet is a little bit outdated, and I feel that this could do with a little bit of an overhaul to make it look a bit more modern. I also dislike the way in which the timeline works. I think it could be better implemented to show the roadmap planning and give you more options to be able to set out a roadmap that meets the requirements that you have. "Smartsheet Forms + AI Make Client Intake Fast and Effortless"
4/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

I enjoy using Smartsheet to collect information from clients. They complete an input form that automatically populates the relevant fields in my sheet, allowing me to efficiently process their requests.

I also really appreciate the new AI capabilities, which allow me to review client information instantly without having to rely on my own input sheets. The process is fast, accurate and saves me a considerable amount of time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

Our team is very happy with Smartsheet overall, and we have no significant complaints. We believe the pricing is reasonable and well justified, particularly considering how extensively we use the platform in our daily operations. The user interface is intuitive, user-friendly and well designed, making it easy for everyone in the office to work efficiently.

One area that could benefit from improvement is the training and onboarding process for new employees. While the platform itself is relatively easy to use, getting new team members fully up to speed can take several weeks, whereas we would ideally like to achieve this within a few days. More comprehensive, structured training resources specifically designed for new users would make the onboarding process significantly faster and more efficient. "Familiar Spreadsheet Feel with Powerful, Scalable Project Management"
5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

Smartsheet’s biggest strength is its spreadsheet-like interface, which makes it immediately familiar for teams moving over from Excel or Google Sheets, while still offering robust project management capabilities. It has a strong task management, including flexible fields and linked records, along with multiple ways to view work across grid, Gantt, Kanban, and calendar formats. Its workflow automations and integrations are a huge time saver and help reduce errors. Real-time collaboration features allows team to contribute instantly. It allows scalable, it grows with the company. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

There are a few limitations that it really lacks: - weaker search and conditional formatting than expected - unresponsive on lower-tier plans with urgent tickets left unresolved - key features (such as unlimited automations and WorkApps) locked behind higher price tiers for much smaller teams, while lower plans also lack useful extras like time tracking and workforce analytics. "Easy, Intuitive Project Setup and monitoring in SmartSheet"
4/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

Ease of use. Very simple to start up a new project and share with people. Even if they are not well versed in PM, it is very intuitive. Being able to use shortcuts to add in information is extremely helpful. Setting up automations to flag to contributors when certain information has been added also make it more current. There is a significant amount of content available to help learn new skills and ways to use SmartSheet. It is also reliable and we feel confident that information saved in workspaces is appropriated protected from a confidentiality stand point, as well as always accessible. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

Viewing the gantt and the grid at the same time can be incredibly frustrating, especially when not working on a large monitor. If there were a way to pick certain, important columns to always show while also scrolling the gantt (a bit like pane freeze in excel), this would be extremely helpful. Also, the zoom function on smartsheet is far from optimal. There are not enough increments so you either zoom too much or too little. It would be great to describe changes and have an AI agent implement them (in the way that claude now interfaces with various programs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Easy-to-Learn UI with Helpful Training Sources"
4/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

It's pretty easy for new people to understand the basic UI. Once they are committed to learning then the integrations for example the dashboards and other reports etc takes some time for them to understand, but with the online videos and community its easy to learn. The AI integration is helpful at times, especially with the AI charts for dashboards. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

At times, the EU domain is slow. Sometimes I wish there were similar formulas to excel, such as lookup. I know there are workarounds but they also require a lot of work to setup. Also it would be great to integrate html dashboards created by Claude into the smartsheet dashboards. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Intuitive Scheduling, Powerful Visibility—But Complex Sheets Can Lag"
4/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

I use Smartsheet as the backbone for production scheduling, to plan and track builds, keep tabs on labour hours, and put together daily readiness reports. I like that it feels like a natural spreadsheet, so people can pick it up quickly, and I could get a sheet set up and working without much hassle. The Gantt view and critical path feature show me straight away how a job slipping affects everything downstream, instead of making me rebuild the plan by hand. Automated alerts save me time when I’m managing 20+ schedules, and dashboards and reports pull everything together using live data. I can see where every build is at, spot clashes or delays early, and get updates without chasing people. Using forms and update requests on iPads lets operators enter information from the shop floor, which has cut down on double handling and replaced a time-consuming paper trail with a smoother, more reliable system. I also like that Smartsheet is easy enough to adapt as schedules change, and that licensed connectors let me use other reporting tools while adhering to our internal ICT boundaries. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

I find Smartsheet can get slow and clunky with large, complex sheets, especially when they have lots of rows, cross-sheet references, and formulas. Cross-sheet formulas can hit limits, so I have to build workarounds. I’d like better resource management and capacity planning built in without paid add-ons, since some advanced reporting and resource planning features aren’t included as base features. The mobile report output could also be better; I can’t use “collapse all” like I can on desktop. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Familiar Spreadsheet Feel with Powerful Project Views, Automation, and Dashboards"
5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

What I like most about Smartsheet is that it feels familiar like a spreadsheet but works as a full project management tool. My team picked it up quickly. Being able to switch between grid, Gantt, card and calendar views makes it easy to track tasks, timelines and dependencies in one place. The automation features (alerts, reminders, approval workflows) save us a lot of manual follow-up, and the dashboards give management a clear, real-time view of status without anyone building separate reports. Collaboration is also strong: sharing sheets, commenting on rows and attaching files keeps everything in context instead of scattered across emails. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

Large sheets with many rows, formulas and cross-sheet references can get slow to load and update. The formulas are more limited than Excel’s, and cross-sheet references are clunky to set up and maintain. Reporting and dashboard formatting is less flexible than I’d like. Licensing can also get expensive as more users need editing access, and the mobile app is fine for quick checks but awkward for real editing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
