What is Smartsheet, and what problem is it built to solve?

Smartsheet is an enterprise platform for dynamic work. It helps organizations align people and technology to manage and automate processes across departments and use cases.

What languages does Smartsheet support?

Smartsheet supports 8 languages: English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and others.

What company sizes and industries is Smartsheet the best fit for?

Smartsheet’s strongest fit appears across small, mid-market, and enterprise organizations, with positive use spanning several industries.
  • Small businesses: Teams with 50 or fewer employees, including substantial use in construction and consulting.
  • Mid-market: Organizations with 51–1,000 employees, with use across construction, healthcare, and financial services.
  • Enterprise: Organizations with more than 1,000 employees, including users in pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and information technology.

How long does it take to implement Smartsheet across a team?

Implementation timelines range from a day or less to several months, with one to three months the most common reported range.
Time to go live Relative frequency
1–3 months Most common
Less than 1 month, including same-day setup Also reported
3–6 months Also reported

What customer support options does Smartsheet provide, and how do users find the overall support experience?

Smartsheet support includes self-service resources, email/help desk, and chat. The experience varies: users find learning resources and help useful, while others describe slow responses or difficulty getting clear, effective assistance.

What is the experience like for teams switching to Smartsheet from another tool?

Switching to Smartsheet is often about bringing project work, updates, and collaboration into one shared system instead of relying on separate spreadsheets, email, or fragmented tools. Users describe moving from Excel and Microsoft project tools, Google-based tools, and other project or work-management platforms; they value better visibility, online collaboration, automation, and flexibility, though the transition can involve learning the platform and adapting existing data or workflows.

What tools and platforms does Smartsheet integrate with, and how do these integrations help users get more value from the product?

Smartsheet offers 102 integrations, helping teams connect project information with familiar collaboration, office, and reporting tools.
  • Office and file collaboration: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Box, and Google Workspace.
  • Project coordination: Jira, Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Teams.
  • Reporting and analytics: Power BI.
In daily use, these connections can keep project plans, team communications, and reporting closer together, reducing the need to move between tools or manually recreate updates.

What features or capabilities could make Smartsheet even more useful?

Smartsheet could be more useful with improvements to formula work, complex-sheet performance, and the flexibility of reports and dashboards.
  • Make formulas more capable and easier to build, particularly for teams accustomed to spreadsheet functions.
  • Improve speed and responsiveness when working with large sheets and linked data.
  • Add more control over dashboard visuals, charts, and report formatting.
  • Make advanced workflow setup and automation more flexible and straightforward.

How useful do Smartsheet users find its AI features in everyday use?

Smartsheet’s AI is useful for some routine tasks, but its value varies and the results may need review. Users describe using AI to help with formulas, summaries, and creating or organizing work; others find it basic, inconsistent, or not yet dependable for more complex tasks.

"Smartsheet: A Flexible Toolbox for Portfolio Management and Workflows"
4/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

We use Smartsheet to solve a lot of problems. We use it to manage and report on our project portfolio, and we use forms and automations to provide the organisation with a simple way of submitting new project requests, and ensuring we have a workflow for assessing and authorising requests. We also use Smartsheet to schedule and manage individual projects, and we have a customised dashboard for project managers to report on their projects. We also us a table with forms to allow vendors to submit information for software security evaluations. In short, Smartsheet is a flexible toolbox that enables us to quickly solve a variety of problems. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

We haven't run into a lot of problems. I have found that new users really do need training in order to populate a project schedule. If they aren't prepared to undertake the training they often populate schedules incorrectly, ie by ignoring dependencies and instead just entering start and finish dates directly against tasks. So, you might say that without training the project schedule is a little counterintuitive, but then with the proper training it's fine. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Great for Collaboration and Templates, but Workflow Setup and Admin Ownership Can Be Tricky"
3.5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

Smartsheet is a useful platform for team collaboration. It is easy and straightforward to use. It enables live collaboration, and multiple team members can edit the live document at once. It is great for project management and comes with a host of templates that can be used and pre-saved. I have only used the Microsoft Teams integration to which I can receive updates to my team spreadsheets through Teams notifications. This works fairly well. I have never had issues with accessing Smartsheet, and it is accessible from my phone and laptop. I am not involved with the pricing of this product and have never needed to escalate an issue for the supplier to fix. I have not used any AI integrations with Smartsheet and use it for manual data input only. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

Within my organization, we have admins that 'own' certain templates or spreadsheets, which makes it really difficult to change or add new users/remove users from the collaborators. I would not say it is easy or straightforward to set up or create new workflows within Smartsheet. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Great for Tracking Tasks and Team Updates, But a Bit Overwhelming at First"
3.5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

I like being able to keep track of tasks, deadlines and progress all in one place. The shared sheets make it easier to see updates and keep everyone on the same page without having to constantly chase information. It's also useful being able to organize and filter information quickly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

Some features take time to get used to, especially when setting up more complex sheets. It can also feel a little overwhelming at first, and I think some of the processes could be made simpler and more straightforward. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Powerful Work Management Platform Backed by a Great Community"
5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

Smartsheet is easy to configure and excels at creating repeatable, scalable processes. The platform is backed by excellent learning resources through Smartsheet University and an outstanding Community where users can ask questions, share solutions, and learn from one another. The combination of flexibility, ease of adoption, and a strong user community makes Smartsheet a valuable tool for both individuals and large organizations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

Smartsheet offers strong process management capabilities, but it lacks some features that users of Excel and Microsoft Project may consider standard. Common requirements often require workarounds, add-ons, or third-party solutions. Reporting can be more complex than expected, and product enhancements do not always keep pace with customer requests. Some highly requested features have remained outstanding for years. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"This will be your favorite platform!"
5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

The time saved with automations and transparency of information across multiple teams. The introduction of the AI tool saved me and my team even more time when creating dashboards, graphs, reporting in general. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

There are some limitations, for example: when an external stakeholder receives an alert/ticket number, they can reply to the email and the email goes straight to the sheet owner. This is not practical in companies where there are limited licenses and the sheet owner is not who will be dealing with the external stakeholder. Another limitation is how much editing can be done to customize a form, we would like to have more flexibility with that. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Smartsheet Streamlines Collaboration and Project Tracking with an Intuitive Interface"
5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

What I like most about Smartsheet is its user-friendly interface and ability to organize tasks, track project progress, and collaborate with team members in real time. It improves productivity, streamlines workflows, and makes it easy to manage deadlines and share information in one place. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

One downside of Smartsheet is that some advanced features can be difficult to learn, especially for new users. Customizing reports and automations can take time, and some features may require additional training or higher-cost plans. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Spreadsheet-Like Simplicity with Powerful Automation and Dashboards"
4/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

Honestly, it just makes project tracking a lot less chaotic. It looks and feels like a regular spreadsheet at first, so it was super easy for my team to pick up, but the automation options and dashboards are what actually save us time. It's great for keeping everyone on the same page without constantly sending follow-up emails. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

It takes a lot of onboarding time for new team members to get used to it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Intuitive, Excel-Like Smartsheet That Makes Tracking and Managing Data Easy"
5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

I appreciate that Smartsheet feels familiar because it is similar to Excel, which makes it relatively easy to learn and navigate. At the same time, many of its features feel more intuitive, particularly conditional formatting and the ability to connect and work across multiple sheets. These capabilities make it easier to organize information, track progress, and manage data more efficiently. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

I wish Smartsheet allowed multiple tabs within a single document, similar to an Excel workbook, rather than requiring each sheet to be created separately within a workspace. Although this structure can feel less organized when working with several related sheets, the workspace navigation is straightforward enough that it has not created a significant issue. "Standardized Project Visibility, but Resource Planning Needs Work"
3.5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

I like the visibility and standardization in Smartsheet. I can see project statuses, what’s pending, and project progress in one dashboard. I can use the same data source to create different reports and views. I use reporting, planning, sheets, Gantt views, baselining, intake process flows, and automated workflows. I found the initial setup pretty easy and straightforward. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

I have trouble with resource management because the tool requires specific tasks with durations and percent allocations that stay the same throughout that duration, which doesn’t work for our area. It would be great to see the resource load for each cross-functional team on a monthly basis in a quick dashboard view. The chart capabilities can also feel limiting, especially for tracking multiple tasks on a burn chart. I’d also like better support for tracking timeline steps that are documents we need to complete before a major milestone, along with driving path instead of just critical path and better successor management. "Easy-to-Use Project Management with Powerful Automation"
5/5
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

I find Smartsheet pretty easy to understand out of the box, and I enjoy figuring out how to set things up to make it easier for people at my organization to confirm what they’ve done or understand what they need to do. I love how it integrates with Jira and how Control Center rolls up information across study-level activities. I really love the automations for handling communication and data updates, which make things easier to manage. I’m also learning the value of the pivot app in the Control Center module, Dynamic View, the Jira Connector, and column linking—I really love column linking. Launching new projects in Smartsheet is pretty easy, too. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

I wish I could refresh the screen while searching for a sheet or data to link, especially if I’ve added something new while the prompt is still open. I’d also like to add information bubbles to reports or Dynamic View columns so people can understand what each column is for when they view or enter data. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
