QuickBooks Online has deliberately removed the ability to print IRS-compliant 1099 forms with boxes, a feature that existed for years and is still required for many established workflows. There is no technical limitation here — the data exists, but the form layout is intentionally suppressed to push users into paid e-filing. This forces businesses and accounting firms to either pay extra, manually re-enter data into IRS PDFs, or use third-party services. This is a clear regression, not an improvement. It increases cost, wastes time, introduces error risk, and creates unnecessary compliance confusion. Removing core functionality to coerce add-on purchases undermines trust in the platform.
