# Which CAE simulation companies integrate best with existing CAD workflows?

A question for engineers evaluating simulation platforms: which Simulation & CAE tools actually integrate with existing CAD environments without creating a translation-and-repair cycle for every geometry change?

The tight CAD integrations:

Simcenter 3D: Fully integrated with Siemens NX, unified CAD, meshing, and validation in one environment with strong CAD-to-FEA consistency and reduced rework through automation. The digital thread connection means simulation models update when the design model changes rather than requiring a full re-setup.

Designcenter Solid Edge: Synchronous Technology for fast geometry edits before FEA or CFD handoff; modifying parts without rebuilding feature history reduces the pre-processing step that normally consumes time when design iterations are frequent.

SOLIDWORKS: The industry-standard file format that third-party vendors and simulation tools broadly support, reducing translation friction when the simulation tool is separate from the CAD tool. Integrated Simulation eliminates file handoff entirely for teams using both.

Capital: For electrical and electronic systems engineering teams, Capital integrates with NX and PLM workflows, with seamless integration with existing Siemens tools and mechanical CAD platforms. Particularly relevant when E/E harness design needs to connect to mechanical simulation environments.

Autodesk Fusion: CAD, CAM, simulation, and PCB design in a single subscription; the cloud-based model enables collaboration between design and simulation without emailing files. For small teams where the engineer is both the CAD designer and the analyst, the single-environment approach removes the translation layer entirely.

How many hours per simulation setup does the integration save, and what is the geometry complexity where the saving becomes significant enough to justify the platform choice?

If you're on SOLIDWORKS already just use Integrated Simulation before shopping around for something separate. Saved us so much time not exporting geometry back and forth every time a part changed slightly.
