"Like Odyssey. Configurable, relatively stable."

What do you like best?

I like that it's very configurable and easy for users to learn.

What do you dislike?

I wish there was more "out of the box" performance monitoring. I also really dislike that users can't delete extraneous connections if they add them accidentally to a party. Their only recourse is to enter a removed date and reason, which causes integrations issues with our receiving systems. I would like to see this resolved for case participants and attorneys

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Don't underestimate what Odyssey can do...think out of the box and ignore field labels when comparing to your existing business processes and systems--instead, evaluate the functionality and assume you will need to make a few changes to your business processes for any new COTS application to fit well with your business. Remember you're not the only city, county, state in the business you're in so it is quite likely that it will work for you since it is working well for so many others.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Superior Court clerk's offices are using Odyssey to enter all case types, parties. Superior Court judges and administrators are using Odyssey to maintain the courts calendars and sessions (most are, but some opted to keep legacy calendar applications). We also have party data synchronized with our legacy party application and case data also "replicates" to our legacy applications.

"Case management built for a paper-based practice"

What do you like best?

The ability to pull up court dockets, view nearly all filings, see imaged filings, related cases, and ability to spell based on similar sounding names.

What do you dislike?

It takes a multiple seconds to pull up cases and even longer to generate forms

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Tarrant County, Texas developed an electronic case filing system that has inspired many other offices to pursue paperless systems. I do not know who the vendor is though.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Odyssey is an evolution of previous court case management mainframe software. Before we looked up cases and had basic information such as the name of parties, court dates, and court actions. Now we have a point and click environment where we can also see scanned documents and find related cases with the click of a button. There is time saved. However, the expectation and needs of our office outpace the development schedule for Odyssey. For example, a digital casefile may have multiple files. It is not possible to drag and drop them all at one time into the system. Nor is it possible to store media, such as videos.

"Odyssey is the best case management system on the market"

What do you like best?

The thing that I like the most about Odyssey is the large amount of functionality and features available in Odyssey. This makes it possible to merge multiple legacy systems into one, making a more streamlined user experience.

What do you dislike?

The only thing I dislike about Odyssey Client is that it's a client/server application. The only thing that would make it better is if it were a web based application like the Odyssey Portal.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Don't hesitate

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are replacing multiple legacy judicial information systems. One that is almost 40 years old. The biggest benefit is merging multiple information systems into one, making it so users only have to log on and use one application. We have also been able to provide more information to our judicial partners and make it more easily accessible using the Odyssey Portal.

"It's great coming from nothing or CM/ECF, but still has a way to go"

What do you like best?

I really like being able to access documents online, file documents online, the whole notion of paperless / electronic filling is very appealing. This is done well compared to CM/ECF, but it's also much newer

What do you dislike?

Extremely limited options in choosing and identifying pleadings. I'm also not particularly crazy about some of the processes that are required for every filing but only used for a small fraction of filings. In particular, I don't love having to decide who is responsible for paying a filing fee when no filing fee is due.

I'd like for the emails to be able to contain, at user election, .pdf attachments of files within a reasonable size parameter.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Just be prepared for things not to fit. There are a lot of square pegs going into round holes, etc.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

e filing, and it's great. I never want to go back.

"An APA's Review of Odyssey"

What do you like best?

Odyssey is user-friendly and is a great case management system. It stores data securely. It is helpful that Odyssey can be accessed by judges, court staff, attorneys, and the public (at different access levels).

What do you dislike?

My only criticism of Odyssey is that it very rarely, goes offline and becomes unavailable. This usually only lasts a short period of time, but it is an inconvenience when it goes down.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Odyssey is a user-friendly docket management database. The only real drawback is the inability to load documents directly into odyssey.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Odyssey's searching features make it easy to use and a vital part of managing the court docket on a day-to-day basis.

"Technical services is the best part of Odyssey"

What do you like best?

Working with Technical Services is what makes Odyssey a great product for us. It can do just about everything, but has it's issues too. The Tyler Technical Services Team has been instrumental in Odyssey working well for my state.

What do you dislike?

The scalability of some parts of the application have been problematic.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Put forth a strong effort in business process review and requirements gathering FIRST. Once you have a good understanding of your own processes, you need to work with Tyler to get the best practices of how Odyssey is designed to work. We made some mistakes by shoe-horning processes into Odyssey that weren't how it was designed. Rights and role configuration is extremely flexible, but use caution being too granular; the fewer the better.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use Odyssey for providing end to end solutions via integrations using the Odyssey API. The ability to integrate with custom applications has been crucial to public safety.

"Good product, but could be better"

What do you like best?

I like that I can file things without having to drive to court at the last minute. This saves me time, and means that I can focus on more important case work. However, i did not use a different case filing system before I used Odessy, so i cannot compare to other ones - only against manual filing.

What do you dislike?

I think sometimes there are glitches. Often it takes very long for a program to load, and sometimes it times out and makes you restart your filing process. Also, it is not very user-friendly - in order for you to properly use, you will likely need to get directions from someone with experience, which can be frustrating.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Continue using as many of the tricks to avoid glitches take time to figure out. Hopefully there will be upgrades in the next few years that make the program easier to use. But in the meantime, it is much better than having to drive to the courthouse.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Legal issues. The benefits are that you are able to upload your document online, without having to drive all the way to the courthouse and do it manually. You can also quickly figure out which documents you have previously uploaded on a particular case.

"Outstanding case management system that is usable across ALL court levels"

What do you like best?

I love the fact that we were able to reduce the amount of systems we need in the courts from many down to 1 and also add additional automation.

What do you dislike?

I dislike the the turn around time for sometimes very important issues.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

I would discuss what you want with a product and work with states that are similiar to your own. Take feedback from the IT side as well not just the EU's.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I solve the issue of replacing an old technology with a modern one as well as consolidating.

"Odyssey - Managing case information and documents for the Clerk's Office."

What do you like best?

I like the ability we have to manage case information and share that case information with other agencies.. It replaces a couple systems we had before: a home grown mainframe system and a separate document system. The integration of both functions in Odyssey is helpful to us as well as state-wide judiciary.

What do you dislike?

There are some problems with stability. The forms feature could use some improvement.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

WE can now easily share documents with other counties judiciary and external federal agencies.

"User Friendly as a staff"

What do you like best?

The layout of Odyssey. For staff Odyssey is straight forward and is easy to use. Making processing faster..

What do you dislike?

It's fairly buggy and a considerable amount of testing has to be put into each release.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Data collection is one of the problems we are trying to solve. The amount of information that is available from ODY make that collection useful.

"Good product for work "

What do you like best?

It has the information that I need to get the word done for my job. When I need a case to find or an old case that is in the system, it can be found on Odyssey going back very far.

What do you dislike?

It can be slow and the interface is not great. It could be more user friendly. Sometimes it is difficult to move from one case to the next or to see if the person has multiple cases or just one case.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Can be slow but works. The interface can be confusing.

The best is the support we receive from Tyler and assisting with the new, up and coming products.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes the length of time it takes for support tickets to be resolved.

E-Charging for criminal initial filings. The benefits will be great once we are able to have our police departments get on board.

"Access to Justice"

What do you like best?

Odyssey manages to collect and display a complex array of data about cases, parties, and documents throughout the life of a case.

What do you dislike?

The learning curve is high, and its flexibility to accomodate unique client situations makes it difficult to have a generic user manual.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

I recommend it because it has so many modules making it a nearly comprehensive system that's always evolving to meet the customer's needs.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The ability for self represented litigants to be treated equally to attorneys in terms of access to case information, and access to justice.

"Works well enough."

What do you like best?

I like the ease of use. It's simple to locate cases and determine the disposition at first glance.

What do you dislike?

Script errors. Miscellaneous bugs that require a content patch release rather than a quick fix.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Makes ease of cross training more efficient.

What do you like best?

I love the electronic forms (File & Serve) - along with everything be accessible to every court user.

What do you dislike?

"Great solution for case management"

What do you like best?

The software is constantly being updated and improved. In addition, the support staff behind the scenes are extremely helpful.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Reach out to other jurisdictions to discuss how it can help your jurisdiction. Come up with problems you're facing and see if Odyssey offers solutions for you.

What do you like best?

We are only in the planning stages for our install. I am very impressed with the Tyler people we are working with - level of knowledge and professionalism. What do you dislike?

So far, I haven't seen anything that is a negative.
