LuxRender simulates the flow of light according to physical equations that produced realistic images of photographic quality.

## LuxRender Reviews
  ### 1. A blender friendly external render, and a solution for Mac users

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about LuxRender?**

LuxCoreRender, (formerly known as LuxRender), is a physically based, unbiased rendering engine. It is free, and its site claims it will ever be.
This standalone render engine could be used with different 3d programs.
A Blender (https://www.blender.org) add on makes it immediately available from within Blender.
This makes LuxCore Render an interesting alternative render engine for Mac users, since it could fill the gap left by Cycles (the most accurate Blender internal rendering engine) which is, as for now, incapable of GPU rendering on Macs.
Being based on OpenCL, LuxCoreRender can take advantage of GPU rendering , and could be also set up to use Cycles materials.
Did I mention it's free?

**What do you dislike about LuxRender?**

LuxRender used to have exporters for a wider number of 3D applications than LuxCoreRender.
But things could change in the future.
One has also to choose carefully the version of LuxCoreRender compatible with the installed Blender version (see LuxCoreRender site and Readme.md for details).

**Recommendations to others considering LuxRender:**

If you are a Mac Blender user disappointed by the lack of GPU support, give LuxCoreRender a try!
It could also help in revamping old Blender projects made in the times when Cycled offered GPU rendering on Mac.

**What problems is LuxRender solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I could finally use again my GPU to speed up renders in Blender, without having to change all the materials set up in Cycles from my old files. As for now, LuxCoreRender seems to be able to read the cycle settings without troubles. Other alternative engines require changes in the shaders in order to work well.

  ### 2. LuxRender is one of the best Open Source Unbiased rendering engine.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about LuxRender?**

LuxRender is available for free, it is Open Source and the fact that it is Physically Based, It's ability to use OpenCL to speed up rendering by using all the available OpenCL compatible hardware and even over the network, is great. Due to its PBR nature the end results have a very photographic look. The development of luxCore looks very promising and has significant speed improvements over the past releases. Several integration plugins are available for LuxRender, E.g. Blender, 3ds Max, Maya, Cinema 4d and Sketchup to name a few. My experience has been using it with blender and the integration is flawless and allows for a 1 click cycles scene convert. The 1.6 release with collapsible menu saves a lot of screen real estate. The new biased path rendering mode is very fast with OpenCL. and the new Halt Conditions menu allows for autostopping a render at an estimated noise level.

**What do you dislike about LuxRender?**

As of this writing LuxCore does not support network Rendering. Too many options and lack of a solid documentation , maybe intimidating for a new user. Cannot be deployed in an environment where a lot of outsourced work happens since its not an industry standard.

**Recommendations to others considering LuxRender:**

If you're looking for a Free, Open-Source PBR, LuxRender fits your needs perfectly. The fact that it is Open-Source can allow you to customize it to suit your pipelines and contribute back to the project if you have the needed coding skills. As a renderer, it provides a lot of bang for the buck since it's free and can be used on commercial projects and if used correctly the results indistinguishable from real world photographs.

**What problems is LuxRender solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are doing renders at a fraction of the cost, of available commercial solutions out there like Vray, Arnold with comparable results.
