## Mailgun Reviews
 ### 1. Stable Transactional Email Handling with Detailed Delivery Insights

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** VINAY P. | Mechanical Design Engineer, Design, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 19, 2026

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

What I liked most about Mailgun was the visibility it provided during automated email handling instead of simply sending emails blindly and hoping they were delivered.

For example, while working with project-related notification workflows and automated communication activities, I used the event logs and delivery tracking to identify exactly why certain emails failed whether it was because of invalid addresses, spam rejection, or bounce issues. Earlier, troubleshooting these problems used to take much longer because there was no centralized tracking visibility.

I also found the webhook and API integration useful because notification workflows could be connected directly with internal systems instead of manually monitoring email status repeatedly. During testing activities, the searchable logs helped quickly trace failed password-reset emails and delayed notifications without checking server-side logs manually.

Another practical benefit was the stable deliverability. Even during larger notification batches and automated alert workflows, emails reached recipients consistently without frequent SMTP reliability issues.

The tagging and analytics features also helped separate project alerts, verification emails, and system notifications more cleanly during monitoring activities.

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

The main difficulty initially was configuring DNS authentication records like SPF, DKIM, and tracking domains correctly because the setup process felt more developer-focused than business-user friendly.

I also noticed that while the logs are detailed, filtering and locating specific delivery events becomes slower when handling larger email volumes and multiple domains simultaneously. Another limitation is pricing scalability. Lower usage plans work well initially, but once email traffic increases and additional tracking or dedicated IP features are needed, costs rise noticeably.

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before using Mailgun, automated project notifications, password-reset emails, and system-generated alerts were managed through basic SMTP workflows with limited delivery visibility. When emails failed or bounced, identifying the actual issue required checking multiple server logs manually.

During project coordination and application-notification activities, some automated emails were either delayed or blocked without clear tracking information, which created communication gaps and repeated support follow-ups.

Mailgun solved this by centralizing delivery tracking, webhook monitoring, bounce management, and email analytics into one platform. Instead of manually debugging mail-server issues, I could directly identify failed deliveries, spam-related rejections, and inactive recipient addresses through the dashboard logs.

This reduced troubleshooting time significantly, improved notification reliability, and created a more stable workflow for handling automated communication and alert-management activities.

 ### 2. Effortless Email Automation with Top-Notch Deliverability

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nate H. | Customer Success Rep, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 16, 2026

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

I use Mailgun for all our automated reports, welcome invites to users, and even password reset emails. What I like most about Mailgun is its simplicity. Their deliverability is incredible, especially when compared to our other more marketing-based email system. The initial setup was very easy and it's built for easy development. Mailgun handles all of these emails for us, so we don't have to manually manage them. The logs are also incredibly well done, making it easy to go back and find any issues with why emails aren’t being sent.

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

Not much. I'm being nitpicky here, but when you're on a large monitor, and you want to add filters to your logs that you're looking through, because the filters show on the far right, it's just a little weird to me. Like I look at the left, click the filter button, to have them show on the right. Not that bad, like I said, being nitpicky

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mailgun handles our automated reports, welcome invites, and password resets, so we don't manually manage them. The logging feature helps us identify email issues.

 ### 3. Easy Setup, Flexible SDKs, and a Rich Email Tracking Dashboard

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** NILADRI A. | SDE -1, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 15, 2026

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

Very easy to set up, with a variety of SDKs to integrate into my codebase. It also has a rich dashboard for tracking emails and creating custom HTML templates.

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

Pricing and feature limits can become confusing as usage scales, and some advanced configurations have a learning curve for new users.

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mailgun simplifies sending, receiving, and managing transactional emails through its SDK and API. Which helps developer's to handle email verification, password resets, and other notifications free limit is also good with 3000 emails to test in dev mode

 ### 4. Effortless Setup with CloudFlare Integration and Clear Deliverability Insights

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Emilio G. | Python developer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 09, 2026

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

It is very easy to setup, they build quite simple step by step interface for that, even have integration with CloudFlare to add DNS records automatically. Deliverability graph is done simple and nicely, shows failed emails right away as well.

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

One time integration with CloudFlare didn't work for some reason, it said try in couple minutes again but was down at least for an hour so I had to manually add records. Otherwise everything was fine.

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Sending marketing and transactional emails with good deliverability rate, because otherwise need to setup own servers, warm them up and monitor it, which is complicated. So it is better use some service like MailGun to outsource it.

 ### 5. Effortless Email Management with High Deliverability

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bruno L. | CTO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 17, 2026

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

We like Mailgun's very clean UI/UX, which makes it easy to use. It's reliable with 100% uptime. The API is easy to implement, and I appreciate that it also offers an SMTP option. We switched from Amazon SES to Mailgun because of the better UI and fewer deliverability issues. The initial setup of Mailgun was very easy, taking just a few minutes. We also like that Mailgun can be connected to many other software, such as Iterable.

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

Setting up tracking can be a bit complex depending on how you manage your SSL certificate and if it allows multi-level subdomains. Also, logs can be fairly complex to navigate, it always takes a lot of time to find a specific email, there's no easy search feature.

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Mailgun for sending emails, ensuring high deliverability. Mailgun offers a better UI and fewer deliverability issues than Amazon SES.

 ### 6. Reliable Email Delivery with Powerful Features and Easy Integration

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rene M. | Solution Architect, Outsourcing/Offshoring, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 17, 2025

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

Mailgun has proven to be highly reliable for sending transactional emails and system notifications. Its API is thoroughly documented, simple to integrate, and offers the flexibility needed for more complex scenarios. I have consistently experienced strong deliverability, and the inclusion of features such as logs, webhooks, and event tracking greatly simplifies debugging and monitoring email performance. Setting up DNS is uncomplicated, and authentication methods like SPF, DKIM, and DMARC are well supported.

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

As your usage increases, the pricing model can become quite costly, which may be a concern for smaller teams or startups. Although the UI is functional, it appears outdated in certain sections and may be challenging for users without a technical background. Additionally, accessing some advanced features often requires searching through documentation, as they are not always prominently displayed within the dashboard.

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mailgun addresses the difficulty of sending dependable, scalable transactional emails without the need to maintain internal mail servers. It has proven particularly useful for handling application-generated messages such as account notifications, password resets, and system alerts. The detailed insight into delivery events and failures allows us to diagnose problems swiftly, which in turn enhances our system's reliability and strengthens user trust.

 ### 7. Reliable High-Volume Email Delivery with Some Initial Setup Challenges

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** María Elena S. | IT Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 14, 2025

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

The best thing about Mailgun is its ability to handle high sending volumes reliably while protecting our domain's reputation.

As a commercial SME, we send a lot of electronic documentation, and before using Mailgun, our domain was constantly being blocked due to high bounce rates and invalid emails.

Mailgun automatically manages and filters these issues, which is crucial for our operations. The fact that they control the 'messy' side of email sending means our critical documents always get delivered, and our domain is safe. Their fast support is also a major plus.

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

Honestly, once it’s set up, there's not much to dislike because it just works.

If I had to pick something, I'd say the initial setup and interface can be a little confusing. Getting the DNS records and the API integration done was complicated for a small company like ours that doesn't have a full IT team. It felt very technical at first.

It would be great if they had a super simple "Setup for Business Owners" guide, not just the technical docs. But again, once you get through that initial hurdle, it’s excellent.

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The main problem Mailgun is solving for us is domain reputation and email delivery failure.

 ### 8. Reliable with Powerful Features, But Pricey Scaling

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** B S.

**Reviewed Date:** December 12, 2025

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

I love Mailgun's one-line API send, which means I can add just 5 lines of code and all my emails keep working forever without any server config issues. The templates and variables are amazing because I don't have to hardcode anything like “Hey {{name}}” again, which saves me hours every week. Batch sending is a huge plus as I can send 10k personalized emails in one call, completing the task in seconds rather than hours. The real-time webhooks are fantastic; they auto-clean the list the second an email hard-bounces, helping me avoid losing money on dead emails. Inbound routes are incredibly helpful because they automatically create tickets when customers reply, making me look professional without extra effort. Auto suppressions are a lifesaver, preventing me from accidentally spamming anyone who has unsubscribed or bounced, which preserves my sender reputation. The one-click unsubscribe handling is a big win, reducing angry replies and keeping my support inbox manageable. I appreciate the searchable logs that let me verify delivery quickly, often ending conversations within 30 seconds. The free sandbox domain for testing is also great because I can test every email flow right away without buying a domain. The two-click DKIM/SPF/DMARC setup is really convenient, and having a dedicated IP when I grow helps with scalability.

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

{"Sudden account suspensions without warning – I wake up to my entire email flow dead because their bot flagged 'suspicious activity' (even on legit transactional stuff), and support ghosts me for days while users flood my DMs saying 'where's my reset link?!' Total trust-killer.","Pricing ramps up way too fast once I grow – Starts cheap for my MVP, but hit 50k emails/mo and bam—$35 base jumps with overages, plus dedicated IPs at $90+? I feel nickel-and-dimed when I'm just trying to onboard more users without rewriting my code.","Free tier got gutted and feels useless now – Used to be a lifesaver for bootstrapping, but now it's 30 days/5k emails then throttles hard to 300/day with 1-day logs only. I outgrew it in week 2, forcing me to pay sooner than planned.","Setup and dashboard scream 'dev-only' – No wizard for domains/DNS—I’m pasting TXT records at 2am and hoping I didn’t typo. The UI is clunky for quick checks; I end up in API docs more than the dashboard, which slows me down when I’m iterating fast.","Deliverability hiccups to Outlook/Hotmail – Gmail/Yahoo are fine, but 20-30% of my Microsoft users never see password resets or alerts. Their 'warm-up' advice is vague, and I waste hours tweaking content just to chase inbox placement.","Support is email/ticket roulette – No live chat or phone unless I'm on the $90 plan. A bounce spike or webhook glitch? I submit a ticket and stare at 'under review' for 48+ hours while my churn ticks up. Phone support as a paywall feels punitive.","Logs vanish too quick on basics – Free/basic plans keep logs for 1-3 days only—user complains 'I didn’t get the invoice' a week later, and I have zero proof to debug. Forces me to build my own archiving, which is dumb.","No built-in marketing tools or pretty templates – I'm stuck coding simple HTML for promos or 'trial ending' nudges, then pairing with Mailchimp for anything drip-y. Why not bundle basics so I don't juggle two dashboards?","Occasional outages or delays I can’t predict – Rare, but when their API hiccups (like that global queue issue last month), my whole signup flow breaks. No real-time status page alerts—I'm scrambling via Twitter instead of building."}

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mailgun ensures emails hit the inbox, automates replies, and provides full tracking. It solves deliverability issues, prevents manual export of bounced emails, and simplifies promo sends. I trust it for reliable high-volume sending, dev-friendly API, and generous free tier.

 ### 9. Mailgun Permanently Blocked My Account Without Any Warning

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 27, 2025

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

The dashboard was simple to use, and sending bulk emails was smooth until my account was suddenly blocked.

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

I had been using Mailgun for sending thousands of customer emails daily, and suddenly, without any prior warning or updates, they permanently blocked my account.

I received a generic email from support (attached below), but they refused to share any valid reason for disabling my account. Because of this, I lost all my work, email history, and campaigns that I had built inside Mailgun.

It’s extremely unprofessional for a company to shut down an account permanently without explanation or even a chance to resolve the issue. I relied on this service for my business, and this action caused a huge loss.

If you are planning to use Mailgun, please think twice — your account can be disabled anytime without notice, and you will lose all your data and effort. Very unreliable service!

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mailgun was helping me send bulk emails (around 1000+ daily) to my customers for marketing and communication. Initially, it solved the problem of reaching my audience easily. But now, since they permanently disabled my account without warning, all those benefits are gone and I have lost all my work.

 ### 10. Seamless Email Integration with Reliable Support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Richard B. | Senior Implementation Consultant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 16, 2025

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

I love Mailgun's seamless integration, which has made it incredibly easy to send emails from the applications I develop. The reliability is excellent, and the API is straightforward to use, fitting perfectly into my workflow. I appreciate the scalability, allowing me to increase email volume as needed, and the pricing is reasonable. The free tier was a great start, and it has improved over the years.

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

I would change the way the domain names are set up in the system. There are too many technical details that you have to put into your domain name DNS, and sometimes, novice users would get confused about that.

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Mailgun to send email notifications from my applications, ensuring reliable email delivery and simplifying integration with its API key. It's user-friendly and 100% reliable in my projects, allowing easy workflow integration and scaling email send volume affordably.

Sometimes, delivery rates decreases unexpectedly. There are a few things that needs to be changed on the reporting side. However, these are minor things compared to the overall service. Their pricing model and what they recommend when you get in touch with a customer representative may not make sense for small business.

**Recommendations to others considering Mailgun:**

Mailgun is solving the critical problem of reliable, large-scale email delivery. For our clients, this means we no longer need to manage our own email servers, reputation, or deliverability challenges. ### 17. Good integration with Laravel, but not without limitations

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Giuseppe P. | IT DevOps, Leisure, Travel & Tourism, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 31, 2025

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

We have integrated Mailgun into a Laravel project to manage the sending of transactional emails and automatic notifications. The initial configuration is quite straightforward thanks to the native support of the framework: just set the parameters in the .env file and Laravel does the rest. The Mailgun driver is well supported and allows you to leverage the APIs without having to worry too much about low-level details.

The deliverability is good and the emails almost always reach their destination without ending up in spam, especially when using a verified domain with properly configured DKIM and SPF.

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

Opaque error management: in case of a sending failure, Laravel does not always clearly expose the detailed response from Mailgun, making debugging less immediate.

Advanced tracking (opens, clicks, bounces) and webhooks require manual configurations outside of Laravel, which somewhat breaks the out-of-the-box integration.

The limits of the free plan are quickly felt if you exceed 5,000 messages per month, and the costs increase significantly as traffic increases.

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Overall, if you work in Laravel and need a fast and stable email sending system, Mailgun is a solid choice.

 ### 18. Super Reliable and Effortless Email Management

Mailgun is super easy to use and very reliable. I manage over 150 websites, and it is essential to me to have something dependable. Thank you, Mailgun!

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

I wish there were some video's to show you how to use some of the error reports.

It allows the websites I manage to deliver email consistently from the forms and other software.

 ### 19. Outstanding online documentation makes working with MailGun simple

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Neil H. | CTO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 12, 2025

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

The online help we required when building API calls from our software was easy to access, clear and accurate. We are now guiding clients to using MailGun themselves!

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

I can never find where I set the IP addresses to accept calls from!

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We develop a multi-tenant application and each client wants email coming from them, not from us.

 ### 20. Reliable Email Service with Easy Integration

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Simone P.

**Reviewed Date:** October 12, 2025

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

I feel great using Mailgun, as I've never had a problem with it. It's reliable and consistently works well. I find the dashboard excellent for monitoring emails, along with the ease of creating new domains and SMTP configurations or APIs. These features are outstanding.

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

I find the plans a bit expensive and would appreciate more differentiation in pricing, as well as lower prices.

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mailgun prevents blocking of mass emails by other providers and offers reliable email delivery, making it easier to manage mass communication without interruptions.

 ### 21. Mailgun is a wonderful email tracking system

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Commercial Real Estate | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 06, 2025

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

I like being able to quickly search for a specific email address to determine if that email successfully delivered, and if that individual opened the email (and at what time).

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

Reviewing the sent email logs can sometimes be cumbersome. The "Quick View" function (which is intended to view the original email sent, not the MIME) doesn't work. That may be a setting with my employer, but if that were/is the case, my expectation would be that the "Quick View" button would be available.

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When someone reaches out and says they aren't receiving emails, I can quickly check the logs in Mailgun to determine if the emails have successfully delivered or not.

 ### 22. Very disappointed

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rafael U. | Founder, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 13, 2025

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

it was very easy to set up and implement

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

awful customer service. i signed up for a trial and then my account was disabled as soon as i started using it, citing that there were problems verifying my business (even though it was already verified). i was asked a few questions about the nature of my busines, the source of my leads, and links to my business website's privacy policy and terms of use pages. i happily obliged and provided them with all the information they requested and they still replied telling me that they decided to permanently disable my account without offering any explanation. i wished to reply to them, appealling this decision and properly escalate with a supervisor or manager, but i was not even given this as an option because it turns out that, after their latest message, they even blocked my email address from making any further replies. this is ABHORRENT customer service. i was presumed malicious throughout the entire process even when i fully cooperated with them. i cannot, in good conscience, recommend this service to anyone. i'll be taking my business elsewhere.

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

mailgun is supposed to help with sending mass emails, which i especially intended to use for marketing purposes. sadly, this service is not benefiting me in any way and made things harder for my businesss.

 ### 23. Gross Negligence in Fraud Detection & Unjust Billing - STAY AWAY!

**Reviewed Date:** July 12, 2025

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

Ease of Integration, nothing else, that's it.

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

The way they push all the responsibility to the customer. When contacting customer support they deny their responsibility in ensuring the service operates safely.

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Their system is easy to integrateThey provide email sending service, we choose to use Mailgun to send order notification emails so that they are not blocked by the customer's mail server.

 ### 24. The worst SMTP provider I ever had to work with

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dame B. | Email Deliverability expert, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 23, 2025

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

Nothing much, it's hard to work on when you want to scale, they block you all of a sudden even though you are a completely legitimate business, never had an issue with any other provider like I had with them

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

Simply that they wait for 1 month so they can charge you and then they block you like you were some kind of a spammer even though you were pretty transparent and legit business from the get go. I have worked with Mailgun multiple times and always ended up having some issues now I will no longer refer anyone to Mailgun.

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It solves nothing when they prevent you from using it.

 ### 25. Flawless, Reliable Service with Intuitive UI

None. Tried many competitive services but Maligun is simply flawless for our use.

Transacational emails with easy setup

 ### 26. Very good experience

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

Easy to use, easy integration and easy access to all information. All in one place

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

The email templates should be more intuitive

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mostly sending transactional email for my customers, were delievery and and logs access makes it sure messages are delivered

 ### 27. Good but have limitation

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 29, 2025

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

the system is pretty simple, easy to monitor ip reputation, good reporting

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

it more design for developer, if you want to send bulk emails with upload list, you need to have developer to send it with api

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

sending email to customers, using it with integration to marketing automation system

 ### 28. Do not use Mailgun for client validations

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Curtis S. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 21, 2024

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

The documentation for their API is pretty well done, so it is easy to implement their solution. We strictly used it for email validation.

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

There are multiple downsides to Mailgun, but the level of support is one. We typically would perform a few thousand client-side email validations per month. One month, we ended up with over 400,000 in a single day, that were due to bad actors. We would have assumed Mailgun would have protections in place to prevent a couple of IP addresses from running up an account, but they don't and wanted to charge us for all those email validations.

The worst part is we don't even have a way to "see" these validations. They literally just have a master counter with no report or anything showing the validations that took place, so the counter could just be whatever they want to make up.

When explaining to support our use of their API for client-side email validations, they simply wouldn't listen and kept providing generic boilerplate responses to reset all our "private" API keys, which were never even used.

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needed email validation for all the forms on our site and our client sites, because so many people make typos or mistakes when entering in their email address, thus making it impossible to reach back out to them. Mailgun served the purpose well until they allowed just a couple of IP addresses to perform 400,000+ client-side email validations.

 ### 29. A once great tool, now in it's death throes

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 18, 2024

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

When it works, it's perfectly up to task, but when things go wrong, you're left stranded

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

The customer service, since being bought by Synch, has just decreased and decreased until it's almost non existent.

Mailgun has a large number of EU customers, and they even have an EU server set up and interface (which, bizarrely, you have to switch to in order to see EU data), however, their Customer Service team only operates in US time, specifically Monday through Friday from 7am to 7pm CST. We're in the UK, so that means we have to wait until 3pm on a standard working day in order to speak to someone!

So, in the absense of speaking to someone, they ask you to submit a ticket, which invariably doesn't get responded to. Point in hand - I raised an urgent ticket yesterday morning, it's now 24 hours later, and they still haven't responded. In case you're thinking that's because I'm on the free plan, nope. We pay Mailgun nearly $1k a month!

When you do finally speak to someone, they're worse that useless. They're basically a triage team, and all they do is farm your issue over to some mysterious back end team to try and resolve. The amount of circular conversations I end up having with the triage team, where they refuse to accept any responsibility whatsoever for issues I'm facing, is farcical.

Oh, and on a technical note, updates made in the UI don't instantly translate to the back end, so even once you've tried to fix something yourself, you have no idea when that fix will actually be implemented.

I didn't wnat tio write this review, but Mailgun's inaction give sme no choice. Stay well clear

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Mialgun to deliver emnails for our marketing automation platform

 ### 30. One of the Best Email Platforms

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ted K. | Helpdesk Support, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 18, 2024

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

It is reliable and never goes down. It is easy to use. Easy to integrate and implement. We use it non stop.

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

I wish it could retain emails for a longer period.

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps verify our customers and prevents service flow issues.

 ### 31. The Support is great and platform is fairly intuitive.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Environmental Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 19, 2025

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

The simple UI menu that allows me to access what I need in a timely manner

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

Some of the comms and help guides are a little limited.

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Relaying content to our internal teams.

 ### 32. Can't always trust Mailgun

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 02, 2024

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

Ability to see the status of emails which I can pass on to clients if they query whether something has been sent from our system.

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

Doesn't always find the emails you're looking for, espocially if you are just looking for all from a domain rather than specific email address

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I can check that system emails have been sent and when. This is useful to relay back to clients if they are querying a process, or whether someone has received an email.

 ### 33. Good delivery of corporate emails with Mailgun

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Romina L. | Project Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 12, 2024

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

Clear UXI to navigate the system, simple configuration, easy to use, clear control panel to quickly find issues and navigate the site. Possibility to clean the database lists to minimize bounces. We paid a very affordable price and received great service. The control panels give us all the information we need to analyze incidents and customer service is good, they respond immediately.

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

Sometimes we have some inconveniences when making a payment with a credit card, in that case it is sometimes a bit tedious to have to process the payment when the card is declined, I don't know the reason why the bank rejects payments to Mailgun.

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

From the company's Health platform, we send different emails to patients. Electronic prescriptions, consultation orders, and care certificates, in addition to information about appointments and cancellations. Mailgun solves this problem for us, preventing our emails from ending up in the spam folder. At the same time, from the panel, we can analyze the traceability of each delivery, manage unsubscribes, and a myriad of features.

 ### 34. Very powerful email API

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Romina L. | MBA Professor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 23, 2024

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

I like that Mailgun makes mail management easy and allows us to comply with Google, Microsoft and Yahoo policies. It also makes it easy to manage bounced emails and unsubscribes.
It is easy and quick to understand the registration and can be configured, so we can always know if an email was successfully sent or bounced
On the other hand Mailgun always keeps us up to date to minimize the chance of our emails going to the Spam folder.
We have been using MailGun for years and it has never letting us down.

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

What I don't like about Mailgun is that they don't have support in Spanish, so if you have any problems you can only go to an agent in English.

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mailgun allows us to meet all the emailing policies of the main companies in the market. At the same time, it automatically solves (without having to write a single line of code) the management of unsubscribes from our customers.
It benefits us because it enables us to manage and track emails easily without having to request a developer to provide us with backend information.

 ### 35. Customer service is horrible

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dan M. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 17, 2024

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

Mailgun gives you ample webhooks and API access.

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

We just signed up for the Scale 100k Trial. We had attempted to sign up for a dedicated IP and the rep told us it wasn't a good fit unless we send 3k emails per month, even though when I made the request I mentioned we send between 50k to 100k per month. This was an automated response or the rep didn't read the questionnaire. It's now 24 hours later and I still haven't heard back. The "Optimize" portion is quite expensive. Nearly $200 per month to monitor domain health and email verifications. There are much better solutions on the market.

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We wanted to take advantage of Mailguns webhooks to enhance workflow in our CRM.

 ### 36. Mailgun, an Efficient and Reliable Email Solution

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amstrong N. | IT Support Associate, Non-Profit Organization Management, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 02, 2024

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

Mailgun impresses with its seamless email delivery, ensuring our OTP and marketing messages reach recipients who are users of our handyman mobile app promptly. The powerful APIs simplify integration, making it an ideal choice for developers. The detailed analytics provide valuable insights into delivery performance, open rates, and engagement, enabling us to optimize our email campaigns effectively. The reliability and scalability of Mailgun have significantly contributed to enhancing our comms strategy. The Foundation Plan initiative is also a great offer to non-profit organizations such as ours and that boosted our interest in choosing Mailgun.

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

While Mailgun is feature-packed and excels in many aspects, the pricing model can become less cost-effective for high-volume users. Some additional features, such as advanced analytics, may require a higher-tier subscription, making it less accessible for smaller businesses with budget constraints. Improved pricing flexibility and more inclusive basic plans would make Mailgun even more attractive to a wider range of users.

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Integrating Mailgun into our handyman mobile app (https://provider.workforce.org.gh) has been transformative in solving critical communication challenges. Mailgun's robust infrastructure ensures swift and reliable delivery of OTPs, enhancing the security of our platform. The ease of integration and comprehensive APIs have streamlined the process, enabling us to send marketing messages promptly, and keeping our users engaged and informed.

 ### 37. Paying for something I can't use (the worst experience)

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Catalin P. | Full-stack Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 24, 2023

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

I'd love to be able to fill this section, but I pay for a plan I can't use. Hence, I couldn't try it.

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

I never thought I'll come across such an appaling product and customer service.

I pay $35/month for the "Foundation" plan, which includes 50k emails/month. However, my account is limited and can only send email to 9 recipients per email.

I provided all the information they asked for, and my account still stays limited. Even more, I have 3-5 days of sending emails, which they keep asking about.

So bottom line, I pay money for something I can't use.

Now, you might ask - why don't I move on and use something else? Unfortunately, I can't because the Ghost blogging platform only works with Mailgun for sending bulk emails.

Conclusion? I highly highly higly advise anyone to avoid Mailgun and use something else if possible.

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None unfortunately. Even though I pay for it, I can't use it cause my account is limited.

Their UI and UX is simple and straight forward for most of the 99% usages. Wide range of featuers

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

Creating email template is time consuming, and not flexiable enough.

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Its helping us to send transactional email.

 ### 40. Horrible customer service

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 23, 2024

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

Eveything as long as there is no need for contact. ;-)

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

Customer Service Issue: We encountered a challenging situation regarding the update of a credit card. The card, previously owned by an employee who has since departed from the company, reached its expiration. Despite numerous attempts and multiple communications, we were unable to update the payment information, which unfortunately leads to an interruption in service.

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Transactional e-mail

 ### 41. MailGun saved us from the high cost of sending automated emails from our Handyman App

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Maxwell Kwadwo F. | Digital Engagement & IT Manager, Non-Profit Organization Management, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 12, 2023

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

Mailgun's world-class tech support and the power-packed features including the smart email templates and email editor caught our attention to switch from our previous application.

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

Although there is detailed documentation to support the self-implementation of the APIs, it still requires some programming background to in fast troubleshooting

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

MailGun is helping us send verification emails and other email notifications to users of our handyman mobile and web apps (https://customer.workforce.org.gh).

 ### 42. From greatness to worst product

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Arun D. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 08, 2023

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

We used to like Mailgun, but not anymore. Over the years, the product has had little to no improvements, and their support has been getting worse.
If you are looking for an API-only solution without dedicated support, you can try it.

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

We were early adopters (when Rackspace managed Mailgun, and used to have 10,000 free emails/month). Even though we were on a free basic version (sharing IP with others), and if the IP were blacklisted the support would quickly assist in changing to a reputable IP address.
Their dedication and super-fast support made us onboard with a paid plan, as we needed support like this in case something went wrong with the campaign.
The UX wasn't good from the start, even though many people were requesting feature updates(voted features by customers). But, we started noticing that the UI started to break first (still broken 😂), then started to get deliverability issues, and they suggested adding another dedicated IP address (was sending around 1.5M - 4M at the time). We requested 3 additional IP and specifically mentioned to assign clean IP addresses.
They didn't even bother to check and provided IP addresses and 1 was blacklisted by major spams checkers (probably used by some other client of theirs). And when we requested to replace it with another IP address, they sent us a document on how to unlist the IP from blacklist🤦‍♂️.
We decided to remove the IP from Mailgun itself, but they warned us that if in the future if we require another IP then they will assign the same IP to us.

We don't add our new customers to Mailgun anymore.

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Used it for transactional mails and no other benefits.

 ### 43. Does the job I need it for

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 23, 2024

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

Set up of Mailgun was reasonably straightforward.

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

Nothing that dislike about the product. Does the job I need it to do.

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mailgun is being used to send email from Salesforce.

 ### 44. Amazing Email API

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sebastian P. | IT Consultant, Information Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 23, 2023

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

Easy to use and reliable. The reporting features are very helpful too. The option for dedicated IP is great for businesses sending lots of emails. The email verification API also helps us protect our domain reputation.

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

Only one API key. I wish we could generate multiple ones with different access levels so we could easily revoke them if anything goes wrong. I wanted to have one key for email verification only, and one key for each application that uses the email API.

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Verify email addresses are valid and send mass emails for marketing purposes. Sometimes we se it for one-on-one messages in our CRM

 ### 45. Mailgun is superb with email verification and deliverability

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dr. Jeanette D. | President, PT, DPT, LAT, ATC, PNMT-C, NASM-CPT, NASM-FNS, NASM-CES, TMRc, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 03, 2023

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

Mailgun helps me verify my email list to ensure valid email addresses. This is important for email deliverability and for ensuring my clients receive the information they need from me.

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

It can be a little confusing to get Mailgun setup. Fortunately, they provide step-by-step instructions. It would be better if they gave more video instruction for the "how-to".

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mailgun verifies my email so that I know my emails are valid. This helps increase deliverability and reduces the risk of my emails being marked as spam. Mailgun has a long history of high deliverability which helps me get my message to my clients and leads who may be considering my services.

 ### 46. A useful platform for sending bulk e-mails

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** pablo c. | Profesor de Marketing online y comunicación, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 26, 2023

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

The ease of use is very good.
The integration with mailster and wordpress allows to have an e-commerce with an effective email marketing strategy.

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

It seems a bit expensive to me.
Also, if it is not used, the charge is the same, so it is important to have a serious campaign strategy.
I wish I had more economical plans or per-use plans.

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It takes me out of trouble sending mails from my server, although the price to pay is too expensive.
With mailster and mailgun I have the solution to send transactional mails without problems.

 ### 47. Account blocked on sign up without any explanation of why it is blocked.

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Apparel & Fashion | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 20, 2023

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

Ease to use API, good logs, developer first

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

Blocking accounts on signup without explanation

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mailgun didn't solve any of our problems cause they have blocked the account on sign up

 ### 48. If you want service, this is NOT the place for you

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rene' V. | President, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 10, 2023

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

Mailgun could've been a cool name. Their service ruins it.

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

Mailgun was supposed to help boost my business with enhanced email capabilities. It did not. Not at all. I tried to follow their video tutorial to begin to configure my email. It was quite confusing and I wasn't able to follow it very well. The result: I am now unable to send and receive emails for my business! I decided to reach out to Mailgun to get the email reconfigured properly. Come to find out, their "customer service" is an option you HAVE TO PAY FOR. You are supposed to upgrade your basic account just to get a phone number!! I filled out 3 "tickets" asking for help. I received one confusing response from a Mailgun rep which didn't help at all. I then created a fake inquiry to their sales team to get connected to someone. She was not helpful, only interested in sales. I then found a few Mailgun emails online and sent MORE emails to the Mailgun email addresses, but still, no response from Mailgun. I canceled the account to end the madness. Mailgun was a complete waste of time and money for me and my business.

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mailgun didn't solve any problems. It created more.

 ### 49. Delivers exactly on what it promises

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** James I. | Back End Developer, Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 31, 2022

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

Email deliverability for outgoing transactional email... It just works! Easy step by step wizards to get some of the more tricky configuration things in place, already integrated into the platforms I use as a developer.

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

I thought hard about whether there was anything I didn't like about Mailgun and honestly couldn't find one. If anything, I'd like there to be a plan between the free and the foundation plan, as some of the paid features would be very useful to experiment with in hobby projects.

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Transactional email delivery for multiple web solutions. It reduces the amount of time we need to think about mail deliverability for our clients and has been such a "set it and forget it" thing for all of our sites that we rarely have to give it any further consideration.

 ### 50. If you want to send SPAM then this is your platform. You will be stuck with huge bills

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 19, 2023

**What do you like best about Mailgun?**

Nothing, which is why I'm switching all my clients off of their platform. Constant pain in dealing with them. They keep changing things and you have to deal with it

**What do you dislike about Mailgun?**

They don't filter our spam emails. Account got hacked and they exploited this email and sent over 1 million emails within a couple of days - no email alerts from Mailgun on the usage and they didn't block a single email! Of course, they charged me for every single email. These were blatant spam emails too - pills, women, etc. This is not a platform to rely on.

**What problems is Mailgun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Email delivery and spam control.
