What problems is Thumbtack solving and how is that benefiting you?

I am repeatedly getting charged for bad leads (one way transfers)- which we do not offer, never have, never will. My preferences have always stated that we need to charge at least 3 hours minimum. When I follow the process to deny the job and request refunds- at least half the time I am denied refunds. This is unethical, unprofessional and illegal. I have spent several thousand dollars per year on legitamite Thumbtack leads since 2019 and deserve this serious issue is rectified immediately by upper management. What problems is Thumbtack solving and how is that benefiting you?

I registered on ThumbTack as pro. They charged me $170 from my card without my knowledge for a lead that didn't meet my target preferences. I put in my settings that I only work remotely and only with commercial companies. Thumbtack sent me a lead that wanted me to come to another State and do work for the church. The problem was also that the lead would not contact me and I couldn't even get in touch with him.

I was denied a refund for the lead. I intend to sue the service with a class action lawsuit. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Thumbtack?

Nothing. The leads are terrible. The interface is slick but that is the best thing I can say. We will never use this tool again. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Thumbtack?

The dishonesty and dark patterns which the company has built into it's system.

They take money from pros for leads, then use that money to post Google search ads, which compete against the pro's own ads. It's dishonest and when confronted about it the company will not provide refunds. We have utilized 0 leads from Thumbtacks because they are all out of our area or poor matches and have spent $150! "Not a place for experts"

Some friends and I started a marketing agency. We were looking for platforms to use to help us get leads, and a friend had said he'd done some side projects on Thumbtack, so we gave it a try. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Thumbtack?

It seems like there are a lot of people looking for someone to help them with marketing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Thumbtack?

This is not a place to find quality leads. The people looking for help are looking for expert quality at Fiverr prices. Thumbtack's fees are very high, which means that providers need to charge a decent amount to make back what they paid for the lead. Also, if a lead flakes out and you are due a refund, Thumbtack only provides an account credit and won't actually refund the money to your credit card. This is incredibly shady. Recommendations to others considering Thumbtack:

If you're looking for a few quick bucks, try Fiverr or Task Rabbit. If you're looking for high quality leads than that, try something else. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The purpose of thumbtack is to connect professionals with potential local customers (and vice versa) based on their skills in a somewhat secure/safe environment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Thumbtack?

Its nice to be able to reach out to people looking for services rather than advertising yourself elsewhere. It seems safer than something like Craigslist. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Thumbtack?

Its expensive to quote someone, especially when there's no guarantee the potential client will even communicate with you. It COULD be great for people just starting out but it's certainly too costly. It would make a lot more sense to charge someone WHEN they get the job rather than charge them just to speak to someone. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
