What problems is Thumbtack solving and how is that benefiting you?

I registered on ThumbTack as pro. They charged me $170 from my card without my knowledge for a lead that didn't meet my target preferences. I put in my settings that I only work remotely and only with commercial companies. Thumbtack sent me a lead that wanted me to come to another State and do work for the church. The problem was also that the lead would not contact me and I couldn't even get in touch with him.

I was denied a refund for the lead. I intend to sue the service with a class action lawsuit. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"DO NOT PAY FOR THE PRO PACKAGE: A CLASSIC DARK PATTERN"

What do you like best about Thumbtack?

Nothing. The leads are terrible. The interface is slick but that is the best thing I can say. We will never use this tool again. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Thumbtack?

The dishonesty and dark patterns which the company has built into it's system.

They take money from pros for leads, then use that money to post Google search ads, which compete against the pro's own ads. It's dishonest and when confronted about it the company will not provide refunds. We have utilized 0 leads from Thumbtacks because they are all out of our area or poor matches and have spent $150! "Not Great for Rural Areas"

I have tried to use Thumbtack to look for services and support on projects in my area, such as dog sitting or professional services. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Thumbtack?

I like that the search functions work pretty well when you filter by different options. I think it's also a great opportunity for those looking to offer their services to others to be listed and available for work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Thumbtack?

I don't like that they only focus heavily on metropolitan areas because not many users have adopted it in rural areas, making it hard to really find it worth utilizing when you're in the middle of a rural area. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Thumbtack solving and how is that benefiting you?

I have tried to use Thumbtack to find local service providers for things that I need to be done, such as cleaning the yard or dog sitting. What do you like best about Thumbtack?

You do have to pay for the service for visibility, but I have booked quality clients for weddings and portraits through thumbtack. I am happy with the service so far, and have been using it for over 5 years. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I was window cleaning. I pay for my leads on a “as you go” basis. I would pay for leads when my work was low. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Thumbtack?

I do like that I have control over which lead I pick. And I love that it tallies up how much you spend for taxes. Also, if the customer decides that that they don’t want any after all, you get your dough back. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Thumbtack?

I think it’s really inconvenient that if a customer wants a job, and me and other contractors bid for it, we are all pretty much trying to win the customer over with the lowest price. And if you don’t win, you still lose your money. we all lose the money for the lead, and only one of us gets it. And the winner is pretty much the contractor whose price was the lowest. Thumbtack connects consumers with service providers for your chosen fields. For example, we are a plumbing, heating, and cooling company, so whenever homeowners go to thumbtack looking to be connected with service providers in their area, we are given their information and project details. What do you like best about Thumbtack?

We’re not cold calling customers. Thumbtack gives us leads to connect with customers to try to win jobs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Thumbtack?

The customers do not give their phone numbers - I believe we connect with more customers via different platforms (HomeAdvisor, Porch, etc) because we are given a phone number to reach the customer first. What do you like best about Thumbtack?

I love the idea of being able to get multiple quotes without having to talk to multiple people! The questions are not always very relevant to the inquiry you're making (or, are too in depth for the scenario) but they're quick and painless to fill out, even on a mobile device. What do you dislike about Thumbtack?

There were limited contractors in my area- SE CT. This is likely at least partially related to thumbtack charging the contractors per quote. They should consider only charging the contractor if the requestor contacts the borrower (or clicks to contact) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Thumbtack solving and how is that benefiting you?

Multiple household needs- for our wedding we got quotes for flowers, photography, catering. We also used Thumbtack to get quotes for a hot tub installation. Finally, because my husband is a personal trainer, we explored using thumbtack for client origination. Ultimately, it was decided that needing to pay per referral, not per contact, was not cost effective and we did not move forward as a vendor. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
