"Talend - Providing Complex ETL Solutions the easy way"

What do you like best?

The ability to talk to different datasources and systems using palette components, contextual processing in different test environments, the open source edition has most connectors and the ease with which you can drag and drop and build workflows, batch processing and parallel processing and also create custom validations using Java are some of the core features. Automation is possible and importing/exporting jobs to different environments is simple. There is also a lot of good data on usage across all community forums. Very open even for community edition.

What do you dislike?

The UI is rudimentary and merits improvement. Its takes a lot of memory and working on Talend on your laptop makes it almost impossible to work on another memory intensive task. It takes some time to understand the tool to figure out how components need to be tied together and is not very Intuitive and has does not have a good integration of IDE to write Java custom implementation.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Data Migration(Relational & non-relational DB), CRM to CRM transformations, DB Updates

"Talend Review"

What do you like best?

The simplicity and the number of components

Significantly reduces costs of developer rates by cutting the time in nearly half to build, pull, and extract data elements.

Highly efficient with little fear of bad ETL acquisition and fewer errors than manual ETL.

Developers have the ability to tap into the core products of Talend and use a community supported and created plugins to match any specific ETL need.

Customized ETL data extractions that are specific to IT developers’ needs.

Whether the ETL project is big or small, Talend open source has a solution for ETL.

Add as you go: developers can adjust ETL on the fly to accommodate new needs for existing data.

Database administrator or higher level programmer can utilize for ETL needs

What do you dislike?

The memory requirements and the debugging is difficult with the error messages being off from the actual error in the job

Scheduling feature which is very basic one is available with only Enterprise editions and not with open studio distribution of Talend

To make spark streaming and machine learning work in Talend you have to subscribe to the Real time big data package

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Don't try to force it to do things its not built to do.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Moving data during a migration or simple jobs that run on a schedule.

"A flexible complete Open Source MDM solution not intrusive"

What do you like best?

Talend MDM solutions is perfectly adapted to any type of project with the community version and platform MDM.

The functionality provides is complete and allows integration without extra cost all elements of gourvernance data: data stewardship, data quality, ETL interface, webservices or ESB.

A very best point : the solution is not intrusive.

The Community Edition is packaged for small projects and a first expience with the MDM server.

Support and community, with forum, is very large and active.

What do you dislike?

Like any MDM solution, it is the technical resources that are lacking in most of the projects.

We always want more component for business applications.

We use different studio for MDM,ESB and DI in community version.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Talend is not a black box : your are the owner of the MDM aplication. Take the control of your data management !

Well identify needs and associated internal and external resources for the extra developement

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Major profits and resolution are a very flexible integration into the existing system with the webservice, the ETL interfaces and application environment.

Centralizing development is done in a single studio for the project: the simultaneous development of the application interface (ETL, ESB, Web services) with the MDM reduces cost and increases team collaboration.

"Great software for data integration"

What do you like best?

How easy it is to use, the fact that it generates java code and the ability to built portable web services.

What do you dislike?

That it can be too heavy for the computer processor; it takes too much resources.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I'm consolidating data from multiples sources to be used in a report. The benefits that I have noticed is that it saves a lot of time since this had to be manually done by copying and pasting data on an excel file.
