Is Shorthand free, or does it offer a free trial?

Shorthand does not offer a permanent free plan, but it does provide a free trial that lets users to test the product before committing to a paid plan. Trial availability and duration may vary, so users should review the seller's official pricing page for the most current details.

Who is Shorthand pricing best suited for?

Shorthand's pricing is best suited for mid-market and enterprise organizations with consistent longform content needs and no in-house developer capacity. G2 reviewers from publishing, online media, higher education, nonprofits, financial services, and automotive industries represent the core adopter base. Mid-market newsrooms, communications teams, and digital publishers get strong ROI, with one G2 reviewer noting story production time dropped from one week to under 30 minutes. Enterprise higher education institutions benefit from dedicated support and student-facing plans. Shorthand's pricing is less suited for individual freelancers, startups, or small nonprofits, where multiple G2 reviewers cite cost as a meaningful obstacle to adoption.

What are the key differences between the free and paid versions of Shorthand?

Shorthand does not offer a permanent free tier, but G2's pricing data for Shorthand confirms a free trial is available for evaluation. One G2 reviewer notes that only one story can be published under a free account, with no limit on unpublished drafts. Shorthand's paid plans unlock additional published stories, custom themes, brand fonts and color palettes, advanced embedding and CMS integration, and dedicated customer success managers. G2 reviewers specifically mention that font and color palette customization requires upgrading, and that custom styling and responsiveness controls are gated to higher tiers. Enterprise needs are addressed through custom quotes.

Is Shorthand considered good value for its pricing?

Shorthand's pricing draws mixed but mostly positive sentiment across G2 reviews. The dominant pattern is high ratings paired with cost concerns, a classic premium-tool signal. G2 reviewers from nonprofits, small businesses, startups, and educational institutions repeatedly flag Shorthand's pricing as a barrier, with multiple reviewers explicitly calling it expensive for smaller organizations. Yet the same reviewers rate it highly, citing professional output, no-code scrollytelling, and strong customer support as justifications. One G2 reviewer from a mid-market internet company rated it 1.0 and cited poor price-to-quality ratio. Overall, Shorthand delivers strong value for mid-market and enterprise teams but is a financial stretch for budget-constrained small organizations.

"Highly Recommended for Educational Use, Easy Setup"
5/5
What do you like best about Shorthand?

I really appreciate how Shorthand provides a lower barrier to entry for students to create engaging content. Its easy setup process has been invaluable as I could effortlessly set up teams and spaces, get students added, and have them using it in no time. This feature is particularly beneficial when managing users, as it allows me to handle students and faculty separately, which is very useful in an educational setting. Shorthand's ability to support faculty in creating research presentations alongside their classroom instruction is something I've found incredibly beneficial. Additionally, I initially discovered Shorthand through an impressively constructed article, which piqued my interest enough to explore its capabilities for educational purposes. Knowing that both faculty and students are pleased with the platform's capabilities is reassuring and enough to make me consider continued use in the future. I'm also highly likely to recommend Shorthand to others, as evidenced by my high recommendation score. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Shorthand?

I think it would be beneficial to have some form of technical support alongside the educational plans. While I appreciate that the educational plan is free as long as it's used for educational purposes, having access to technical support would be reassuring. It would be helpful to have someone to turn to in case any issues arise. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Beautiful Visual Stories Made Easy with Shorthand and WordPress Integration"
4/5
What do you like best about Shorthand?

Shorthand has been instrumental in helping us create some truly beautiful visual stories.

Our designers have been able to work easily with the drag-and-drop interface, and the overall visual flow always looks great. We’ve also been able to integrate the stories into our WordPress site, which has been really useful.

Olivia at Shorthand has been especially helpful in making sure we get the most out of our subscription, and James has supported us through all of our coding challenges.

Overall, the stories look beautiful and now load perfectly on our WordPress. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Shorthand?

Some of our designers have struggled with the platform - I believe it's a different way of how they've worked previously when it comes to designing website pages.

It also took us some time (a few months) and also some help from our own developer to get it integrated onto WordPress. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
