Day to day, we rely on it to capture the steady flow of meetings—client calls, strategy sessions, technical deep dives. It saves time and keeps us from scrambling for notes. But when the conversations get fast, detailed, or nuanced, the cracks start to show. The transcripts are good, not great. Most of the time, they hover around that 85–90% accuracy mark, which works until you hit overlapping voices, heavy accents, or cybersecurity jargon. That’s when sentences get garbled and someone still has to go back and clean things up. Speaker labeling has the same issue—sometimes Otter nails it, other times it feels like a coin toss. For a company where handoffs and accountability matter, “Speaker 2 said this” isn’t good enough. Language is another limitation. English works fine, but as soon as people slip into different accents or switch languages, Otter struggles. That creates friction for global or diverse teams. Integrations aren’t much better. The basics are there, but Otter doesn’t slide naturally into more complex workflows. If you want structured summaries, custom templates, or CRM syncing, you hit walls quickly. The technical caps also don’t match the way BlueStar operates. Thirty- to ninety-minute recording limits might work for a classroom or short huddle, but they’re impractical when strategy sessions or board updates stretch longer. Add in customer support that drags and privacy concerns that have already landed Otter in legal trouble, and you can see the gaps. For BlueStar, these shortcomings matter. A single transcription error in a technical conversation isn’t just an annoyance—it can shift outcomes. Mis-labeled speakers make accountability harder. Limited language support alienates global voices. Workflow bottlenecks and time limits disrupt our rhythm. And when you’re a cybersecurity company, even the hint of unclear recording consent is a red flag. Otter could improve in clear ways: sharpen transcription for accents and jargon, strengthen speaker recognition, add real-time language detection and translation, open up customization for summaries and integrations, extend session limits, and be radically transparent about privacy and consent. In short, Otter is useful but imperfect. It helps us capture more than we’d get otherwise, but it still demands caution, editing, and extra steps. For now, it fills a gap. I haven't had the opportunity to try the paid version and use the AI capabilities **What problems is Otter.ai solving and how is that benefiting you?** With Oter.ai, i don't have to be concerned with taking down minute details, or worry about missing very important information from a lead. ### 27. I like how it records your audio AND turns your spoken words into a sharable text format. You can even share the recorded audio which doubles up your content creation. You speak your content, can edit the text within the app, then share to a document format for let's say a blog post, then share the audio as a podcast episode as well as load it as a youtube video. That's three types of content channels from one recording! There's a reason why this app is so popular amongst authors and the share capabilities with multiple formats is a big one, saving so much time to get the content done and start sharing to your marketing and social channels. **What do you dislike about Otter.ai?** The pricing, in my opinion, is a bit much and there aren't many options which I feel is a bit odd considering the obvious scalability of the program there could be more option available for me specified needs. As a basic user, you get an allotted amount of recording time each month, and you can only share in TXT format or the audio. You'll have to upgrade if you want more integrated options. **Recommendations to others considering Otter.ai:** Be sure to try the tutorial so you know all the features otter has to offer. **What problems is Otter.ai solving and how is that benefiting you?** Problems being solved though are time management and production of content. Like I said with otter.ai you have the ability to create multiple types of content for a number of different channels just from one recording alone. People in podcasting, bloggers, content writers, and YouTubers can really benefit from this easy-to-use application, with it they would be able to at least triple their content production and it can all be done with the otter.ai app from a smart phone. ### 33. It is an easy-to-use program that takes an audio recording and transcribes it into a manuscript. It's incredibly helpful for "post-game analysis" for any public speaker who wants to get better in his or her efforts to communicate effectively. It is also extremely helpful for creating an accurate manuscript of what was previously spoken, which can then be used to re-deliver that same speech or sermon at a later date. **What do you dislike about Otter.ai?** One thing I dislike is the amount of time it takes to transcribe the audio file into a text manuscript. It has usually taken me approximately 30 to 40 minutes to wait for a full transcription. It would be good if it can detect multiple languages like Mandarin, Malay and Tamil, Korean and German language as well to facilitate language barrier and translation. This will greatly help in medical diagnosis and treatment. There should be more subsidies for Singaporean students to help them catch up in classes especially those from lower income backgrounds. **What do you dislike about Otter.ai?** It only has 600 minutes of free transcription and does not detect other languages like Mandarin, Malay and Tamil as well as Korean and French and German and Japanese etc. It does not allow exporting of audio files into laptop and notebook to take down notes efficiently and share with team members. **What problems is Otter.ai solving and how is that benefiting you?** To transcribe words that have been spoken by humans into words that can be seen on a notepad so that help can be rendered and medical diagnosis can be made and prompt treatment can be provided. We use it to transcribe videos so we can add closed captioning.
