So you can't always trust when it says it switches speakers. It takes a few minutes to setup, but then after that, any time you record a meeting in Zoom, it transcribes the meeting for you, with a high degree of accuracy. Names confuse it some (like how professional services firms tend to be a string of names of people's last names which don't really adhere to any rules) but even when it gets it wrong, editing is quick and easy. The free version is VERY limited in uploads of audio files allowed (only 2-3 files) but the zoom integration, which is super easy, more than makes up for it. Free version allows for 10 hours of audio transcribed per month, which for me is plenty, but even if you're a heavier user pricing is still very inexpensive for the usefulness. If you do interviews for a blog or business, this is super useful. **What do you dislike about Otter.ai?** I haven't really found anything yet. I don't have any problems with companies putting limits on their free version of software, especially business software where proving to and then acquiring power users is the main goal. My zoom integration setup was a little confusing, but wound up ok in under an hour, so can't complain too much there. **What problems is Otter.ai solving and how is that benefiting you?** I've started doing an interview series to grow my credibility as a thought leader in my field, so having the transcription for publishing has saved me hours. Manual transcription is usually a 6x time killer for me, this has saved me so much time. ### 10. It is an easy-to-use program that takes an audio recording and transcribes it into a manuscript. It's incredibly helpful for "post-game analysis" for any public speaker who wants to get better in his or her efforts to communicate effectively. It is also extremely helpful for creating an accurate manuscript of what was previously spoken, which can then be used to re-deliver that same speech or sermon at a later date. **What do you dislike about Otter.ai?** One thing I dislike is the amount of time it takes to transcribe the audio file into a text manuscript. It has usually taken me approximately 30 to 40 minutes to wait for a full transcription. The only other major thing I dislike is that, at least in the free version of Otter.ai, you can only transcribe a maximum of 40 minutes per file. **Recommendations to others considering Otter.ai:** If you are interested in an easy-to-use and accessible transcription software, and if you're involved in public speaking in any way, then you NEED to use Otter.ai! So we found Otter.ai as a transcription service. The videos were noisy but that didn't hinder this app. We were even able to export the transcription and applied sub-titles to the videos and it syncs 100%. I am surprised with the value that they are offering this for free and only charges a few dollars per month for their subscription services. In the end it saved all of us from taking notes. ### 17. I was amazed at how well it worked even with people with accents: Boston accents, southern drawls (even Texas style), New York accents, Minnesota -you bet, even handles California valley speak). Everything else is meaningless if it can't do its primary function which is to transcribe speech. **What do you dislike about Otter.ai?** It needs work on it's workflow integration with other tools. Although it does integrate with zoom, the workflow is kind of weird. I would think that it would be more automatic to get to a "movie" of who is speaking and the screen being shared with the transcript on the screen at the same time. Maybe I'm just kind of dense and just don't get it. The native otter web site interface needs some polish and could stand with being able to be integrated with other authentication schemes better rather than having folks having to reinvent the wheel and create new groups for distribution control. But all of this is trivial in light of the main event which is the excellent transcription and identification of who is speaking. **What problems is Otter.ai solving and how is that benefiting you?** More efficient use of time and better focus at meetings. That alone has made it worth it.Being able to go back and review and cull out salient points has really upped the quality of results for me. ### 19. Which is something that every good copywriter will want to be able to do. What I like best is how easy it is to upload an audio or video file and get a transcript that is about 80-87% correct. It takes about 10-15 minutes for otter.ai to finish processing. Otter.ai also has a great app store app, which makes "talking to type" on the go very easy. Sometimes when my hands get tired I will talk into otter.ai instead of typing. **What do you dislike about Otter.ai?** I dislike that otter.ai took away the free plan's ability to upload audio and video files to transcribe. They still give you 600 minutes free per month, but its not useful without being able to upload at least a few files per month. At least increase the free limit to 1 per month. Still, the paid version isn't super expensive and is quite useful. I also dislike that you can't use otter as a youtube video transcription tool. The accuracy isn't there for that. Still it's great for my purposes. **Recommendations to others considering Otter.ai:** If you are looking for a tool to transcribe meeting notes, or to "talk to type" and you're ok with an 87% accuracy otter.ai is perfect for you. I always have to spend sometime going back to clean up the notes. However, otter.ai makes this process easier by including time stamps, and separating different voices automatically. **What problems is Otter.ai solving and how is that benefiting you?** I'm solving the problem of translating interviews for copywriting projects. For this purpose an 80-87% accuracy is perfectly acceptable. Because I just need the notes to be "accurate enough" if that makes any sense. If you need perfect translations for a youtube video, you are better off hiring a human to do it for you. I also use otter.ai to "talk to type", as the software can record your voice and turn it into text. ### 21. If I have an interview or if I'm watching a webinar I can't seem to crank the audio enough for the tech to capture it. I have to record video on my phone, convert it, and then upload it so I do wish there was a way I could grab that audio better I'm not sure how though. **Recommendations to others considering Otter.ai:** A.I is a scary word but watching this program learn and grow has been a treat. If you need transcriptions that are clear, concise, easy to handle, and user friendly at least try it. Let it run in the background while you continue working and see just how useful this kind of tech can be. **What problems is Otter.ai solving and how is that benefiting you?** Otter is doing its job in the background while I'm doing mine. It has saved me and my company hours of trying to transcribe - it cut out the start, stop, start, stop, rewind, start, stop procedure we would have to go through if we just recorded the conversation. We work on deadlines and fight for breaking news, so we don't have time to be behind the rest of the news cycle. We can continue writing while otter wraps up our conversation with a bow. PLUS if someone attempts to dispute a quote or needs certain things pulled from the transcription you can just copy and paste straight from the software. ### 29.
